Chapter 450 How far is forever?

"Huh?! Luna!" Loila immediately stood up and pulled Luna up. No matter what, it would be terrible if Professor Snape caught her like this!

But where could I hide?! Ah—that's it!

Loila saw a carriage parked at the entrance of the auditorium. The carriage door was open, but there was no one inside.

Yes, this is it! Loila pulled Luna into the carriage and then waved her wand to close the door.

As she finished her movements, the hurried look on her face eased slightly.

"Why are you hiding?" Luna tilted her head and asked softly, "Aren't we friends?"

"But—but if Professor Snape sees us—" Roy didn't know what she was thinking; she just moved on instinctively.

The carriage wasn't very big; it probably belonged to one of the fairy bands. It was filled with all sorts of things—the band's sheet music, instrument cases, and so on. Loila and Luna could only squeeze into one seat, then huddle close together.

With her silver hair intertwined with her golden-silver hair, Loila blushed and lowered her head.

"Loira still smells of snow," Luna whispered. "It smells so good."

"Ah—I—no—don't smell it—" Loila whispered, but she felt a little shy when she felt Luna's breath.

"We're just friends, we're friends—friends!" Loila kept repeating to herself to avoid thinking about strange things.

"Loila—and what about you—"

"Me?" Loila was taken aback, unsure of what Luna meant. She turned her head slightly, and in the dimly lit carriage, Luna's eyes shone brightly.

Why did you become my friend?

"Ah—" Loila pursed her lips, thought for a few seconds, and then said, "Because—because I've never had any friends before."

"So—even if it weren't me, if it were someone else, Loila would still be friends with her?"

"No—no—" Loila quickly shook her head. "Look, I'm not friends with Dumbledore, nor with Ms. Vida, nor with Mr. Parkinson—"

"I just—" She was tongue-tied and wanted to explain something, but Luna gently placed her index finger in front of Loila's mouth.

"Professor Snape is here," she whispered. "Shh!"

"Ugh!" Why is there no sound?! With Luna's finger pressed against her lips, Loila instinctively tried to pull away, but the cramped space prevented her from doing so.

Moreover, she could indeed sense someone standing outside the carriage at that moment.

"Snape—look here." It was Mr. Lupin's voice; he seemed to be catching young lovers with Professor Snape.

He seemed to have noticed something and said, "Do you see the two marks here?"

"Looks like two students who aren't bothered by the cold," Snape scoffed. "And where did they go?"

"Hmm—" Lu Ping followed the footsteps and looked around, then his gaze settled on the carriage beside him.

This is a very small fairy carriage; it should be able to barely fit two people.

But then, Snape seemed to have found something on the snow, bent down, and picked something up.

"Tsk." He clicked his tongue and said with a hint of sarcasm, "Looks like some professor is neglecting his duties."

It was a strand of silver hair, which shimmered slightly under the Christmas tree lights at the entrance of the auditorium.

"Ah—" Lupin couldn't help but raise an eyebrow when he saw the hair. He suppressed a laugh, glanced at the little carriage beside him, and said, "Maybe she was just having too much fun dancing."

"Ha." Snape shook his head with a cold laugh and then said, "What time is it?"

"I believe werewolves also check their watches, right?"

"Then I think the slug should wait too, shouldn't it?" Lupin retorted, then took out a pocket watch from his pocket.

"It's already 8:30," he said, glancing at Snape. "What time is that person coming?"

"Soon, if he really is German and is really punctual." Snape raised an eyebrow and tossed the silver hair aside.

He glanced at the carriage next to Lupin, then suddenly took a few steps closer, a cold smile on his face.

"Clatter".

Lupin looked on with a hint of surprise, then knocked on the carriage. "There shouldn't be anyone in here, right, Lupin?"

"I don't think so," Lupin said slowly, raising an eyebrow. "After all, this place is too small."

"Small enough to fit a mixed-race Veela?"

"Perhaps?" Lupin shrugged. "Should I open the carriage and take a look?"

"No need, Lupin," Snape sneered. "Forcing you to lie to your friends isn't exactly a good thing."

"You've never been a good person," Lupin said, shaking his head. "But I've never actually seen you lie to a friend."

Why is that?

"That's enough, Lupin." Snape's face immediately darkened, and he snorted and strode away.

Lupin chuckled softly, then reached out and knocked on the carriage before following Snape.

As they left, the entrance to the auditorium immediately fell silent.

A few minutes later, the carriage door was slowly opened, and Loila, her face flushed red, poked her head out to take a look.

"No—it's alright now." With that, she walked out of the carriage, her legs a little weak, and then she sat down on the snow with a thud.

That's...that's terrifying! Mr. Lupin definitely figured something out, but thankfully Snape doesn't seem to have? Thanks to you, Mr. Lupin!

Loila silently thanked Lupin, then breathed a sigh of relief.

Luna, who was sitting next to her, suddenly burst into laughter, and her laughter carried far on the wind.

"What's wrong, Luna?" Loila paused for a moment and looked at Luna, her hand instinctively taking Luna's hand, even though her hand wasn't very warm.

"It's nothing." Luna blinked. "But—I feel like Loira has been a lot happier lately."

"Has something happened?"

"N-nothing." Loila shook her head. She couldn't possibly tell Luna about the murder she committed. Luna shouldn't know these things—she was just a—uh!

Loila groaned in pain as her ear was tugged, while Luna said slowly, "You're lying again, Loila."

How did she know she was lying? Could it really be related to her ears, as Mr. Lupin said?

"But no matter what happens, I'll be with you, Loila," Luna said softly. "Because we're best friends."

"So—even if you don't tell me, I will always support you."

"Forever and ever!"

"How far is forever?" Loila asked instinctively.

"Is it about this far?" Luna held up her hand to indicate, then smiled and said, "I heard a story from my mother."

"Once upon a time, there was an ocean contained in a pot. There was a wizard who, every hundred years, would heat the pot with roaring flames, until the ocean completely disappeared—"

"Forever has only been a second in."

"That sounds like it's really far away."

"It's that far."

"Even though we're so far apart—we'll still be friends."
