Chapter 451 Wilhelm von Steinberger
"Isn't it about time?" Lupin stood at the entrance to Hogwarts, frowning slightly as he looked at the pitch-black expanse outside.
"If he really is punctual," Snape said slowly from the side, "but I don't think so—"
"Then he's a fake German," Lupin said casually with a shrug.
Perhaps because of the snowfall today, the surroundings were quiet, as if all sounds had been swallowed up, with only the occasional sound of their conversation.
"I've heard he's the most powerful Auror in the German Ministry of Magic," Lupin said slowly. "And he's only been working at the Ministry for two years."
"Two years??" Snape scoffed. "It seems he's become famous even faster than Miss Hamilton."
"Perhaps," Lupin shrugged. "But if he's really that good—isn't that actually a good thing for us?"
"It would be great if he could find the killer."
Snape raised his eyelids but didn't speak. He slowly picked up the necklace from his chest, watching the crystal gradually turn green, and then fell silent.
As he fell silent, Lupin also stopped speaking. The two of them stood there blankly in the snow, letting the snowflakes fall from above.
However, soon, on the road leading to Hogsmeade, the faint light of a lantern, like that of a firefly, caught Lupin's eye.
"He's here," he said softly, then coughed and walked over with his lantern.
Snape snorted and then followed Lupin over.
As the two lights drew closer, they saw each other's faces.
He was a young man with short black hair, a handsome face with brown eyes, and he was wearing a black trench coat that wasn't covered in a single snowflake.
"Good evening, Mr. Steinberg," Lupin said first. "Hogwarts welcomes you."
"Headmaster Dumbledore and Mr. Crouch are waiting for you in the Great Hall."
"Good evening, you two." Stöger nodded slightly, his eyes scrutinizing. He didn't seem like a warm person; on the contrary, he was rather cold. He simply nodded and followed behind Lupin and Snape without saying another word.
"Let me introduce myself. I am Remus Lupin, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts." As he walked, Lupin said, "This is Professor Severus Snape, the Potions professor at Hogwarts."
"I understand," Steinberg said slowly. His English was quite good, with little accent, but his tone remained indifferent.
This left Lupin speechless for a moment. Although there was one more person than before, the atmosphere seemed even colder.
"When can I go and take a look?"
As they approached the auditorium entrance, Steinberg suddenly asked.
"Look?" Lupin paused for a moment, then immediately realized, "Today is Christmas, Mr. Steinberg. If you'd like, Principal Dumbledore will accompany you tomorrow."
"To examine Principal Karkarov's body."
"————" Steinberg closed his eyes slightly and remained silent for a few seconds before saying, "I hope to start tonight."
"Well—" Lupin raised an eyebrow and said, "You can speak with Headmaster Dumbledore and Mr. Crouch later."
"Um."
Steinberg remained silent until the three of them reached the auditorium entrance.
"I won't go in, Lupin," Snape said slowly. "Those students probably think they're safe now."
"————" Lupin raised an eyebrow, then shook his head helplessly: "I'll tell Headmaster Dumbledore."
After saying that, he watched Snape's departing figure and said, "Professor Snape still has work to do—let's go inside."
""
Steinberger didn't reply, but just watched Snape's retreating figure thoughtfully.
"Clatter".
The auditorium doors were slowly pushed open, and the lively atmosphere inside reached Lupin's ears.
It's so warm here—he rubbed his hands together, feeling his slightly cold body warm up.
As he led Steinberg toward the professors' table, he kept glancing at Loila. Finally, he saw her on the table; she was tilting her head and seemed to be talking to Miss Nagini.
It seemed she had ended her joyful adventure—Lupin raised an eyebrow and then smiled slightly.
"Headmaster Dumbledore—" Lupin nodded slightly to Dumbledore as he approached the professor's table, interrupting his discussion with Hagrid about the recipe for honey tsuna.
"Mr. Steinberg has arrived." He said, stepping slightly to the side to let Steinberg, who was standing behind him, pass.
"Good evening, Headmaster Dumbledore," Steinberg said slowly. "When may I begin?"
His eagerness caused several professors present to raise their eyebrows, as did Mr. Crouch of the Ministry of Magic.
"If you'd like, we can begin now," Old Barty said slowly. "Headmaster Karkaroff's body has been kept in the basement of Hogwarts."
"Then I'd like to go take a look now," Steinberg said slowly.
"Don't you want to eat something, or rest for a bit?" Professor McGonagall thought for a moment and said, "You must be very tired from your journey."
"No need," Steinberger said, picking up a slice of bread from the table. "This is enough."
"After all, I'm here to work," he said, glancing around at the professors above, "not to celebrate."
His pointed yet cold words made the professors exchange bewildered glances, but after saying this, he said nothing more and looked at Dumbledore, seemingly waiting for his actions.
Dumbledore simply smiled slightly, then said calmly, "Then please come with us, Mr. Steinberg."
As he spoke, he slowly stood up, nodded to the other professors, and then left with Steinberger.
"He looks really professional!" Hagrid said only after he left. "Maybe he'll find the killer in a few days."
"Perhaps?" McGonagall said slowly, but there was a hint of worry in her eyes. She felt that with the arrival of this Mr. Stenberg, Hogwarts might be about to face another upheaval.
"I hope Mr. Steinberg won't let his worries come true," McGonagall said slowly, shaking her head as she watched the students playing and dancing in the auditorium.
The hard-won harmony between Hogwarts students and Durmstrang students should continue, right?
"I hope so —" She shook her head, slowly picked up a wine glass, and took a sip.
