Chapter 210 Gwen's First Day of Work

Chapter 210 Gwen's First Day at Work

Connors slept in Gwen's bed, while Gwen slept on the floor.

Last night, the two were talking when Gwen, clearly exhausted, collapsed to the floor and fell fast asleep.

Gwen's dirty clothes were piled up on the sofa in the living room, and she had taken over the bedroom floor herself.

Connors looked left and right, and had no choice but to lie down on Gwen's bed himself.

She slept straight through until dawn. Gwen seemed to be talking in her sleep, her voice muffled and unclear, as if she were being affectionate:

"Mom, I want to wear a pizza to school!"

Connors chuckled silently; he didn't need to look at his watch to know it was already past nine in the morning.

The enhancement of the body by "photosynthesis" also includes the ability to perceive time, so Connors doesn't need to carry a watch or cell phone with him at all.

But now there's a problem: it's already nine in the morning, the sun is high in the sky, but Gwen shows no sign of waking up.

Connors even glanced at her and noticed that Gwen had rolled over and smacked her lips under her mask, as if she were eating a pizza in her dream.

Last night, she was wearing her work clothes and a mask, and she introduced herself to Connors. She didn't take them off until she fell asleep. If he didn't wake her up, would she sleep all morning? Connors wondered, and his "spider-sense" instantly activated.

Originally, "Spider-Sense" was a passive ability, but after Connors acquired "Telepathy," he used "Master of Lockpicking" to lock up Spider-Sense.

His physical abilities were already powerful enough, and his spider-sense wasn't an ability that improved with strength. Often, when his spider-sense issued frantic warnings, it was actually just Black Adam cursing. (Chapter 146)

However, if you want to wake up Spider-Gwen, the Spider-Sense is obviously more effective than other methods.

Almost the instant Connors activated his Spider-Sense, Gwen, who was sprawled on the floor, sprang up:

"I dreamt that the pizza was wearing a Spider-Man suit—"

Gwen's exceptional jumping ability propelled her to the ceiling. Looking down backward, she instinctively shot a web upon seeing Connors, only realizing afterward that this was the man she had brought home the previous night.

"Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to!"

Before Connors could react to her apology, Spider Gwen fell from the ceiling, clutching her head in disbelief.

Connors craned his neck and found Gwen staring blankly at her alarm clock.

Gwen:

She stood frozen in place for two seconds before starting to panic:

"I'm late! I'm late!"

"Why am I still late even when I'm sleeping in my work clothes?!"

"This is my first day at my first job!"

Connors proposed:

"If it were me, I would resign immediately."

"But I'm two weeks behind on my rent! I need to work to pay my landlady!" Gwen seemed on the verge of tears.

Before she could even wash up, Spiderweb pulled a bag of bread from some corner and ran off, not forgetting to remind Connors:

"Stay home and don't wander off!"

Connors reminded again:

"Are you sure you want to go to work wearing your uniform and the 'Spider-Gwen' mask?"

Gwen, who had never worked before, was late for her first day and her nervousness made her somewhat flustered:

"Thank you, thank you."

She thanked him verbally, but stopped when she reached for the mask.

Once the mask is removed, Gwen's true face will be exposed to Connors, a complete stranger, which would be a devastating blow to her desire for a secretive life.

Even Connors was prepared to turn away understandingly, so as not to put too much psychological pressure on the girl.

But he underestimated the foolish college student's determination to go to work. Spider Gwen gritted her teeth, and her long golden hair fell out of the mask first, followed by her small chin and beautifully curved jawline.

Her soft lips were pressed together, as if she had made up her mind.

With his straight nose and blue eyes that looked like jewels, Connors finally understood what it meant to be "someone who stepped out of a comic book."

Although her features weren't particularly deep or mature, her youthful energy perfectly compensated for that.

In terms of girlish charm alone, only Rachel Ross, the "Raven" portrayed by Connors, can compare. "I consider you my best friend, so you can't do anything that would hurt me," Spider-Gwen said earnestly.

Her intention was to tell Connors not to reveal her name and appearance, but Connors didn't play by the rules at all:

"For example, waking you up to go to work?"

Gwen was stunned again. She quickly realized that Connors meant "going to work = being sad" and shook her head.

But then Connors said something that nearly made Gwen's brain freeze:

"You don't need to go to work anymore, because you've lost your job."

What does it mean that the class is gone? Gwen realized that she had spaced out more times today than in the previous seventeen years combined.

As the clock hands approached ten, Gwen dared not delay any longer; she only had time to say:

"I'll bring you food back!"

He opened the window and jumped out.

Three minutes later, Gwen appeared wearing her work clothes, with an apron tied around her neck.

"I swear my alarm clock didn't go off at all this morning; it must be broken."

"I mean, a homeless man stole my bicycle."

"Um, I mean, please don't fire me, sir."

Gwen looked on with a blank expression and begged the pizzeria owner sitting at the entrance not to fire her.

Her boss looked worried, with cigarette butts scattered all over the ground at his feet.

"This world has Spider-Woman (Spider-Gwen's nickname), the Fantastic Four, and the Lizard, but the police think I'm the one who's crazy!"

Even insurance agents laugh at me.

Gwen sensed something was wrong, and she cautiously approached:

"Sir, what happened? Lizardman?"

"Yes, the lizardman, it ate my pizzeria!!!"

The pizzeria owner's voice was filled with anger, sadness, and absurdity:

"There have always been rumors around the world that politicians are reptilian, but no one told me they would eat a newly opened pizzeria clean?"

"Even the police and insurance companies didn't believe me!"

Gwen cautiously stepped past the owner and peered into the pizzeria.

There was nothing in the shop, including the counter, all the tables and chairs, and the kitchen utensils.

Now Gwen understood why Connors had said he was "out of class".

"What did the police say?"

Gwen instinctively prepared to inquire about the situation with the New York Police Department, after all, her father also worked at the police station, and she couldn't just stand by and watch the reptilians run rampant in New York.

The pizza shop owner sighed:

"The police said it's related to a guy named Connors, just a regular theft, those sons of bitches!"
