Chapter 472 Revealing the Truth

Chapter 472 Revealing the Truth

Should I talk to Mr. Lupin?

Ever since her conversation with Miss Shiloh, Loila had been pondering this question—but she hadn't been able to come up with an answer.

As the third match approached, her workload increased—and on top of that, there was what Miss Shiloh had mentioned—about not being unconscious—

Ah—it's so complicated—so complicated that I want to forget all of this—

Loila sighed, slumped over the table, unsure what to do—should she really tell Mr. Lupin? He and Mr. Steinberg had been investigating for months already.

He had already sensed something was amiss—perhaps he really might find the answer? And Mr. Steinberger was even more so—he initially thought I was the prime suspect—

After much deliberation, Loira decided it was best to tell Mr. Lupin, because she trusted him—she felt he would never tell anyone.

And people like Karkaroff—they deserve to die, don't they?

Of course, it's also possible that Loila simply couldn't bear the inner torment any longer; these past few days, she'd felt a pang of pity whenever she saw Mr. Lupin looking so troubled.

I even think about this when I'm lying in bed at night.

Taking a deep breath, she finally made up her mind to tell Mr. Lupin.

If Mr. Lupin chooses to tell Dumbledore—I'll beg him not to—I'll beg him to kneel down in his arms!

Loila pursed her lips, then slowly stood up.

But just as she reached the office door, she slowly withdrew her outstretched hand—but if—

What if Mr. Lupin didn't actually discover anything?

Or perhaps they've already found someone new to suspect? Wouldn't it be foolish to just say it directly?

It's like walking into a trap.

Loila was extremely conflicted. She had always been such a conflicted person. The more she thought about it, the more her inner thoughts tormented her, like a spider web tightly binding her.

"Bang bang bang".

"ah?!"

Loila, who was hesitating at the door, was startled by the knocking. She shrank back and instinctively let out a scream.

"It's me, Loila."

Is it...is it Mr. Lupin?!

Lupin's voice rang out from outside the door, startling Loila. She trembled, unsure of what to do.

Did Mr. Lupin know something? Or was he just passing by? Should I tell Mr. Lupin? Ah—why did it happen so quickly—I haven't thought about it carefully yet—

It seemed the wait had been a bit long, as a slightly anxious voice sounded from outside the door: "I'm sorry, Loila, the situation is a bit urgent—"

I must tell you immediately.

As soon as he finished speaking, Lupin immediately pushed open the door.

He walked into the office with a hurried expression and immediately closed the door tightly.

Even after closing it, he waved his wand to add another lock to the door.

Only after all of this was over did he look at Loila.

Then—he raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.

Are you getting ready to go out?

"No—no." Loila bit her lip and took a few steps back, wondering what Mr. Lupin wanted to do.

Why did he lock the door? Was he afraid I would run away?

"I have something to tell you right away." Lu Ping calmed himself down after running all that way, and then slowly said, "This is very important."

"Okay—okay." Sensing something, Loila took a deep breath and then slowly sat down on the office sofa.

"Headmaster Dumbledore just came to see me," Lupin said succinctly. "Mr. Steinberg has submitted a report to the International Confederation of Wizards."

"He believes you are the prime suspect and has requested that you be interrogated."

Interrogation—Me?

Unpleasant memories flashed through Loila's mind, filling her with fear. She twitched her ears, remained silent for a few seconds, and then whispered, "Why—why?"

"Because he thinks you're the murderer of Karkaroff," Lupin paused, then said, "but Headmaster Dumbledore and the others didn't agree."

"They all think the interrogation went a bit too far," Lupin said, glancing at Loila, who breathed a sigh of relief.

"But—this illustrates a point," Lupin continued, "that Steinberger is now suspicious of you."

"And—and what about you—Remus?" Loila suddenly asked, "Do you—doubt me?"

"I—" Lupin was taken aback by the sudden question. After a few seconds of silence, he slowly said, "Loila—"

"I don't want it to be you," he said, pursing his lips. "But if it really is you—"

"So why is that?"

"I—" Loila realized that she shouldn't have asked that question. Once she said it, it almost meant only one thing.

That is—he was indeed involved in Karkarov's death—

So————

The tension in her heart reached its peak at this moment. Loila took a deep breath and slowly said, "Remus—Mr. Lupin—it's me—"

"Karlov was killed."

'

""

Lupin's pupils dilated slightly. After a few seconds of silence, he slowly asked, "Is it because of Müller von Ansbach?"

"Yes—yes." Upon hearing Muller's name, Roy subconsciously felt a little sad. Although she had lived for seventy years, her memories were only a short twenty-odd years—and for four of those years—she had spent them with Muller—almost every single day.

So Loila pursed her lips and slowly said, "Because Karkaroff—he killed Müller."

"So I want to avenge him—that is, he once—once bullied me—threw mud at me—and cursed at me—I don't care about any of it."

Loila gripped her wand tightly, her voice trembling: "But he—he killed Mueller."

"It was Muller who taught me the silent spell — it was Muller who took me — to the competition — he even spent Christmas with me —"

"We even went to learn how to use brooms together—"

"He invited me to his house—" Loila said, tears inexplicably streaming down her face.

"So I must avenge him—aven him," Loila said, emphasizing each word. "I'm sorry—Mr. Lupin—even if—we had to do it all over again."

"I will still do it."

"Because Muller—is my best—" she sobbed for a few seconds before finally saying, "is the best friend I've ever had."

"Although he may never have considered me a friend, but only a burden —"

"No—" Upon hearing this, Lupin almost instinctively retorted.

His rebuttal made Loila tremble slightly. She pursed her lips and whispered, "I—I'm so sorry—"

"No, no, no—that's not what I meant." Lupin looked at Loila's face and said slowly, "What I meant was—"

He definitely didn't consider you a friend.

"But that's because..."

He loves you.
