Chapter 1103 - 1104: Coldhouse
Chapter 1103 - 1104: Coldhouse
"Prina, I came out of the Dungeon Gate this afternoon," Idan said, answering her question about how he hadn't learned anything about the marks before. "No one knows how to get into the Nexus, and they certainly don't realize that the Dungeon Gates can be used as teleportation points through the Nexus.""Therefore, when I appeared, no one could have imagined that I came from another continent. Most likely, I was mistaken for someone who already has a mark," Idan continued, walking along the cleared street.
"Once this is known, the control over Gate entries and exits will be significantly tightened."
Idan stopped and raised his head to look at the sky.
The gate he passed through was located in the very center of the abandoned city, in the territory of the Scarlet Fire Faction. This place was permeated by her influence, and even the sky was dyed scarlet.
However, despite the dominant presence of the Scarlet Faction, the area around the Gate inside the city was divided between all six Fire Factions.
Neither of them would allow the other to single-handedly take over the Gate.
Even the Scarlet Faction, although it was the mistress of these lands, could not act too rudely, as the slightest violation of the borders could cause the other five factions to forget about their differences.
Evening was approaching, but because of the bright radiance of the true Scarlet Fire, it was difficult to distinguish where the day ends and the night begins.
Idan's current goal was very clear: to find his older brother and Adrian, to resolve the issue of blood relatives, and then devote himself entirely to hunting for the True Fires.
Knowing where he should go, Idan easily found the place where the restoration work was carried out.
The place where the subordinate forces of the Golden Fire Faction worked, and there were many of them— not only the Blake family.
In an effort to rebuild part of the abandoned city as soon as possible, the clans from the middle circles, including the Flaming Cranes clan, were also involved.
"Stop!"
Idan, as an outside guest and not a member of the Golden Fire Faction, was stopped by a Faction patrol and forced to return back towards the Gate.
"Tsch!" — Idan clicked his tongue in displeasure.
After walking a little to the side, he stopped and began to think about what to do next.
"Should I sneak in secretly?"
"Idan," Prina's voice distracted him from his thoughts. "I overheard that there's a place called the Coldhouse nearby, where Contractors often go to take a break from the heat and have a refreshing drink."
"Oh!"
The information provided by Prina immediately set a new goal for him.
"Great job, Prina," Idan couldn't help but praise. If it wasn't for her, he would have had to take the time to find out about the existence of this place himself.
Not far from him, Idan noticed a group of Golden-ranked Contractors who had just left the restricted area. From their conversations, he realized that they were just heading to the so-called Coldhouse to relax and enjoy drinks.
"This is exactly what I need.", — Idan thought.
Without wasting any time, he followed them and soon found himself at the entrance of a large establishment, from where numerous voices could be heard.
Pushing open the door and crossing the threshold, Idan found himself in a world that was the exact opposite of what he had left outside: instead of a hot and stuffy room, he was greeted by fresh and cool air.
Idan felt that he had been transported to the past, before the world began to change. In the center of the destroyed city, he found himself inside an almost completely restored Earth bar, which continued to function.
At first glance, he didn't notice that some of the lighting had been replaced by magic. However, the atmosphere inside was no different from the one he remembered.
Even the softly playing music created an atmosphere of comfort, and the visitors, mostly consisting of Contractors, behaved like ordinary residents of the city who, after a long day at work, gathered together to discuss life and enjoy drinks.
In order not to attract attention, Idan went to the bar and took an empty seat.
To his surprise, there was a wide variety of drinks on display at the counter. He couldn't understand how they could bring all this to the center of a ruined city. And then he had his first suspicion that maybe this place was the work of an Awakened One with a System.
That would explain the appearance of such an amazing place in the midst of all this chaos.
"What can I pour for you?" The bartender asked, approaching Idan.
"Water," — replied Idan, looking attentively at the young man.
The bartender chuckled.
"Here, water is ordered either by children or by those who are not allowed to drink."
"So I'm one of the second ones."
"Do you have any health problems?"
Idan glanced at the rows of bottles behind the bar.
"No, it's in my head," he pointed at his head.
"So, friend, are you one of those people who doesn't keep alcohol?"
"On the contrary, I control myself too well. Alcohol takes it away."
Idan spoke about it calmly, but he perfectly remembered the times when he could not leave the room for weeks, allowing bottles of alcohol to replace sleep, food and communication with people.
Back then, his addiction was only harming him.
Right now, he had the power in his hands to turn a momentary loss of control into a real disaster.
That's why he didn't drink.
Not because he couldn't afford it, but because he could do too much.
The bartender wanted to make a joke, but something in Idan's eyes made him keep silent.
Pulling out a glass and adding a few ice cubes, the bartender poured regular drinking water and handed it to Idan. In response, Idan threw him a fire crystal of the third rank — he did not have a lesser quality with him.
"Keep the change," he said.
In order not to attract the attention of other customers, the bartender quickly hid the fire crystal and carefully looked at Idan and his mark.
"So, brother, you're not from around here?"
"Yes, I come from a distant land," Idan nodded, taking a sip of cold water and enjoying the coolness that spread down his throat to his stomach.
"Ask away," the bartender said, addressing Idan through the Soul Force so that no one could overhear them. "I understand why you're here, so feel free to ask questions. Instead of giving up for the fire crystal, I'll share with you what I know."
Idan looked at this young man and couldn't help but ask:
"Is this your bar?"
