Chapter 2 What a Sin!
Chapter 2 What a Sin!
Disturbed like this, Chen Rang completely lost interest in squatting on the toilet.
He tucked his phone into his pocket and came out after a few rustling sounds. Looking down, he saw DouDou still squatting by the bathroom door. It held its head high, wagged its tail twice, and barked twice.
It seemed quite pleased that Chen Rang was so obedient, and it came closer to continue to act cute.
"Are you a dog? Where did the cat's aloofness go?"
Chen Rang stopped it with his foot.
Ignoring Dou Dou's resistance, he turned around, lay down on the sofa in the living room, stretched out his legs, closed his eyes, and then slowly yawned with his head tilted back.
He felt like he'd caught the cat's laziness; he was feeling incredibly sleepy and wished he could go back to bed and sleep all day.
However, there is an annoying demon in the house.
Want to sleep? DouDou won't give him that chance at all.
Chen Rang sighed.
Sure enough, less than two minutes after he closed his eyes, the sound of scratching at the door started bothering his ears again.
When he opened his eyes, he saw that DouDou had run to the front door. It was scratching at the door with its paws while turning its head to stare at him, looking like it wanted to go out.
Chen Rang thought it wanted to go out for a stroll, so he went over, opened the door, and then came back.
He hadn't taken more than two steps when Dou Dou suddenly yelled and blocked his way. The little guy kept circling between his legs, tripping him up and preventing him from leaving.
"So, what's the deal with you clinging to me like this so early in the morning?"
Seeing that Dou Dou had no intention of giving up, Chen Rang was somewhat puzzled.
Having spent a week with this guy, Chen Rang believed he knew Dou Dou quite well.
This guy is clingy, but he's never been this clingy before.
In the past, it would at most come over for some treats or pester Chen Rang to brush its fur and scratch its itch, and after enjoying itself, it would turn around and leave without hesitation, just like a heartless woman. Or it would wander around the house at night like a night owl, climbing on the ceiling, the floor, the cabinets, and the bed.
This is the first time I've been so inseparable from DouDou since I brought her home a week ago, to the point that I even tripped over myself.
So, what happened?
After thinking for a moment, Chen Rang tried walking towards the gate.
"Meow!"
DouDou jumped up excitedly and immediately stopped trying to stop it. It ran a couple of steps ahead to lead the way, then quickly ran to the gate and eagerly awaited its arrival.
Chen Rang became even more curious.
He followed them out the door.
……
Chen Rang lived on the second floor of a three-story old building that was twenty years old.
Each floor has an area of over ninety square meters, with a standard layout from the 1980s; the first floor is his own pet clinic, the second floor is where he lives alone, and the third floor is his parents' room.
However, the unscrupulous father, after passing the family business to his son, has already taken his wife on a carefree trip. The two plan to travel all over the world along the border, and will be away from home for a long time to come.
Currently, Chen Rang is the only person in the entire building.
As a single man without a girlfriend, Chen Rang's daily life is also very simple.
He neither indulged in the three forbidden activities nor had any other bad habits; even though he was only in his early twenties, his biggest expense was just occasionally going out for barbecue with his best buddies. He didn't have any major expenses or social obligations, and he was carefree.
As a veterinarian, he has to stay at his own shop during the day and can't go out and have fun like other young people.
In his spare time, he prefers to relax in a recliner and read a novel rather than go out.
A few days ago, I was feeling lonely, so on a whim, I brought DouDou back to play with me for a few days. This was the boldest thing Chen Rang had done since returning to Sarawak.
For some unknown reason, Chen Rang hesitated for a moment.
Meow~
Dou Dou, who was walking ahead, turned around and urged Chen Rang, interrupting his thoughts that had not yet begun.
The little guy dashed into the stairwell in two strides and quickly went down to the first floor. It stood at the corner, staring intently at Chen Rang, its eyes unblinking.
For some reason, Chen Rang actually saw tension, urgency, and even a hint of panic in the little guy's eyes.
Immediately, he abandoned the idea of giving up.
Seeing Dou Dou turn around and disappear around the corner downstairs, Chen Rang quickly quickened his pace to catch up.
Descending the narrow side staircase to the downstairs storefront, the cat kennels and dog cages inside were completely empty. As a veterinary student, Chen Rang was very satisfied with his work.
Of course, now is not the time to be arrogant.
In the blink of an eye, DouDou was nowhere to be seen. Chen Rang quickly went to the roadside and looked around, and soon locked onto his target. DouDou had already run more than fifty meters away and was standing in front of the cat cafe not far away, staring intently at the glass door.
Chen Rang chased after him.
When he arrived at the entrance of the cat cafe and saw that the door was tightly closed, he paused for a moment.
It was early morning, so it was normal for the cat cafe to be closed. However, the strange, foul stench that hit you as you got closer was anything but normal.
The foul smell, which was like a mixture of rottenness, corpse stench, and a hint of blood, made Chen Rang frown and cover his nose.
He was very curious about what was going on.
Murder? Corpse?
Chen Rang was considering whether he should call 110 to report the incident.
Upon closer inspection, the cat cafe was quite dark.
It was already daylight, but the view inside the room was extremely poor because all the curtains were drawn. Chen Rang adjusted the angle for a long time before he finally found a gap through the side of the curtain that wasn't fully drawn, allowing him to barely see what was inside.
The appalling scene, resembling a disaster zone, left him speechless.
The store was vandalized?
This was the first thought that popped into Chen Rang's mind.
The furniture was scattered haphazardly, the floor was littered with scraps of paper, sand, and clumps of urine and feces, and there was all sorts of trash strewn about. It didn't look like a normal cat cafe at all.
There were traces of unidentified liquid on the floor, and the posters on the wall were torn to shreds. Next to the overturned sofa, a shattered plastic cat cage stood out conspicuously. It looked like it had been violently crushed, and a metal bowl lay upside down next to it…
These things looked particularly grotesque in the dim light.
Chen Rang stared blankly at the scene before him, not even realizing for a moment that this was a cat cafe.
He found the extremely filthy and chaotic scene before him truly bizarre. He even sensed that the stench emanating from the nearby buildings was so intense it was suffocating.
Looking closer, Chen Rang spotted a gaunt cat in a distant corner. It lay motionless on its side in the dark corner, as if it were dead.
He was startled.
After calming down for a while, he pursed his lips and continued to observe and search.
Then, after a short while, he noticed some movement in the dim light.
Upon closer inspection, he saw a thin, emaciated cat with dry, matted fur and discharge from its eyes, emerging from the shadows. The cat seemed to have noticed him and was slowly and unsteadily moving towards him.
Chen Rang remained motionless.
After what seemed like an eternity, the cat finally came to him, quietly tilting its head back through the glass door.
It was a long-haired cat, but it was filthy and weak. The strange aura emanating from it even made Chen Rang feel numb all over. It stared silently at Chen Rang, and the desolation and annihilation in its eyes, as if it would die at any moment, was particularly stimulating to the nerves.
It seemed to have difficulty even raising its head. It opened its mouth slightly and silently barked twice at Chen Rang, but eventually it lost its strength and lay down listlessly, its chin resting on the floor tiles.
Is this cat crying for help?
"So... what exactly is going on?"
Chen Rang felt like his scalp was about to explode.
He muttered to himself, completely unable to understand why the cat cafe, which had been fine just last week, had suddenly become like hell.
This cat looks so pitiful!
As a veterinary graduate, Chen Rang could not allow himself to turn a blind eye.
He tried to push the door open, only to find that the glass door was locked from the inside. A large U-shaped lock was wedged into the door handles on both sides, making it impossible to open the door without breaking the handles.
To make matters worse, his movement opened the door a crack, and a super foul odor mixed with a thick layer of dust quickly wafted out, rushing straight towards his face.
The extremely pungent smell instantly made him see stars.
He covered his nose and took several steps back.
God knows how that cat inside endured that environment!
Returning to the sidewalk, smelling the fresh air, it took Chen Rang quite a while to finally recover. Holding his breath and covering his nose, he went back to the glass door. Seeing the cat's pitiful eyes again, he finally couldn't resist.
He couldn't bear to stand by and watch someone die, so he kicked them hard.
