Chapter 721 The Minister Nobody Wants to Be

[Protest or coincidence? Who dares to become the new Minister of Magic?]

Looking at the latest copy of the Daily Prophet, Siron was surprised to find that the Ministry of Magic had not yet elected a new Minister of Magic.

He remembered that when the previous Minister of Magic, Pierce Sinkness, was killed by Voldemort, Hogwarts hadn't even started its holiday break yet. Now, almost a quarter of the holiday had passed, and the Ministry of Magic was still discussing the issue of a new Minister.

This is wartime! Voldemort could lead his Death Eater army to attack everyone at any time. Are procedures really that important?

However, after reading further, Xilun realized that he had made a mistake.

This time it's not that the Ministry of Magic is wasting time, but rather that nobody wants the job. All the people in the ministry who are qualified to be minister have refused to run for the position, which is why the minister's position has remained vacant until now.

The reason for this is Voldemort.

Rufus Scrimgeour and Pierce Sinkness were both killed by Voldemort shortly after becoming ministers.

Especially Pierce Sinkness, to this day, many people still can't understand why Voldemort attacked the Ministry of Magic that day; he didn't reveal any obvious purpose at all.

If I had to pinpoint the biggest impact of that attack on the Ministry of Magic, it would be that the Minister was killed.

This inevitably leads people to wonder if this is what Voldemort truly wanted to do—kill every Minister of Magic, thereby undermining the Aurors' and Strikers' resolve to resist.

This idea spread rapidly within the Ministry of Magic and gradually evolved into the situation we see today.

People were afraid of being targeted by Voldemort, and no one wanted to take the position, but the Ministry of Magic—or rather, the British wizarding community—needed a minister to raise a banner for other wizards who were fighting against Voldemort and the Death Eaters.

Even if it's just a nominal banner, it's better than the current state of disarray.

It was indeed a disorganized mess. The Department of Law Enforcement and the Auror Office were completely uncooperative, and the strikers and Aurors were fighting their own battles, suffering defeats every day.

The day before Sirius and Dumbledore went to Gringotts, an Auror squad was ambushed by Death Eaters in Cornwall and was wiped out.

When Siron looked at the Daily Prophet, he couldn't believe that the Aurors could have achieved such a feat.

Those are Aurors, the most elite fighting force in the Ministry of Magic. The requirements for joining are extremely strict, and only the most outstanding individuals are accepted.

Of the more than one hundred Hogwarts graduates each year, perhaps only one or two meet the requirements, and sometimes none at all.

This is the kind of team that was wiped out by a group of Death Eaters without Voldemort even showing up?

Xilun rubbed his forehead.

Every time he thought about it, he wondered if Mad-Eye Moody had taken the real Aurors with him when he retired, leaving only a bunch of hitters who were paid Aurors.

Of course, Siren didn't mean to look down on strikers, but their individual abilities and qualities were indeed somewhat lacking, and they were mostly responsible for magical events. They rarely dealt with dark magic or dark wizards.

"Ring ring—"

Just then, the wind chimes on the door rang.

Silen looked up and saw Fred and George walking in from outside.

It's worth mentioning that, currently, besides Gringotts and the Leaky Cauldron, the only other shops still open in Diagon Alley are Ollivanders Wand Shop and Weasley's Wizarding Tricks Shop.

"Good morning," Siron said casually. "Want to buy a wand?"

"If I could, I'd like an Elder Wand," Fred said seriously.

"Then you should go find Antioch Peverell, not come to the wand shop."

"Yes," George sighed, looking regretful. "It's a pity he was killed hundreds of years ago, otherwise we would like to borrow the Elder Wand from him."

"Alright, enough joking, let's get down to business." Fred chuckled and said, "How about we go to Grimmauld Place for lunch today? They seem to have something very important to discuss."

"I heard Dumbledore will be coming too," George said.

"Something very important—" Xiren seemed to have thought of something and looked down at the newspaper in his hand.

"Could it be related to the new Minister of Magic?"

"What else is there besides this that would make a busy man like Dumbledore make such a trip?" Fred shrugged, acknowledging the situation.

"I've always wanted to ask—" Siron looked at them questioningly, "Kingsley Shacklemore, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, was he also afraid of being targeted by Voldemort?"

"Kingsley is certainly not afraid," Fred said.

"But he can't," George said.

"Otherwise, the Auror office will be completely finished." Fred made an exaggerated gesture.

"Do you expect Nymphadora Tonks to command those newly joined Aurors?"

"That's really not appropriate," Xilun said softly.

He almost forgot that ever since Voldemort returned, the Auror team had been constantly changing, and now the only one with real experience in the Auror office was probably Kingsley.

If ranked by everyone's working hours, Nymphadora Tonks would already be a senior Auror, having only shed her intern Auror title two years ago.

If Kingsley were to become a minister again, the Auror Office might as well be disbanded.

"So what are they trying to discuss?" Siron asked curiously, "How do they get Mr. Weasley promoted?"

"Hahaha!"

"Hahaha!"

Fred and George both burst into laughter, clutching their stomachs. "You've got some serious skills, Celia—"

"Oh, how come we didn't think of that!"

"Dad's becoming Minister of Magic—By Merlin, Mom would faint if she heard this news!"

"What, isn't that right?" Xilun asked.

"Of course not."

The two of them finally managed to stop laughing. George wiped the tears from his face and said, "Although no one wants to be the minister right now, not just anyone is qualified."

“Dad’s just an office manager,” Fred said. “He’d be qualified if he could get promoted to deputy director of the Enforcement Division in a day.”

"Only the deputy director can run for minister?" Siron asked curiously, he really didn't know the Ministry of Magic had such a rule.

"There are no explicit rules," Fred said after a moment's thought, "but that's how it is most of the time."

"Wait a minute—" George stroked his chin. "Maybe Dad really does have a chance."

Nobody wants to be Minister of Magic right now, but the position can't stay vacant forever, so the requirements will definitely be relaxed later.

If we're looking for someone who isn't afraid of being targeted by Voldemort and works at the Ministry of Magic—

The two exchanged a glance.

Mr. Weasley certainly meets the requirements in every way.
