Chapter 405 The Man Who Sold His Soul
All the audience members seemed to be hypnotized the moment they entered the circus tent.
This does not include Connors and the other two.
When Wanda saw the worker fall to his death on the stage, and the audience below remained expressionless, she couldn't hold back any longer:
"I summon Morrigan and command you to awaken these poor souls from their hypnosis!"
"snort."
Morrigan, the goddess of illusions, was unhappy with Wanda's wanton manipulation, but she had no choice but to comply due to Wanda's chaotic magic. Her graceful body, partially veiled, danced in the air.
The top of the circus tent seemed to become transparent, and the starlight from the night sky fell into the tent and seeped into the bodies of each of the poor hypnotized people.
Soon, screams, cries for help, and footsteps echoed throughout the circus. The audience seemed to wake from a dream and clamored to escape. But soon, tiger roars, lion howls, clown laughter, and fire-breathing sounds rang out. The things that were supposed to be used for performances and to win applause from the audience were all turned into murder weapons.
Is the world really this strange?
Zatanna raised her hand and released a magical barrier to block the circus's attack, then frowned and asked Connors.
Since they came to this world, except for the period when they were sightseeing and did not interact with any other people, almost every place they visited was filled with an eerie atmosphere.
"I'm afraid so," Connors said. "The human world has almost been infiltrated by hell."
"So, like we did before, let's go back to hell again?" For the first time, Zatanna's face showed anger.
"What this world needs is not us, but another knight," Connors said.
Wanda and Zatanna both knew that Connors was referring to Johnny Blazer. Wanda asked:
"Leave it to him alone? Can he handle it?"
"Maybe not now, but he definitely will when he finds me," Connors said.
Wanda and Zatanna didn't understand the meaning behind Connors' words, but dealing with the circus was the priority at that moment.
Wanda didn't even need to lift a finger; Zatanna alone defeated the circus members to the ground using only her ironic magic.
But the circus is clearly not the root cause; the evil behind them is the main factor.
From the worker lying on the ground, his spine crawled out of his body on its own, like a snail, passing in front of the circus crowd.
"You think you've trapped me, but you've only delayed my arrival. The demons will eventually descend upon the earth, and darkness will descend upon the world...
A sound came from the spine, then it burrowed into the clown's body, fused with his spine, and then burst out again.
Next up were the fire-breathing performers, a tiger and a lion.
What finally appeared before Wanda and her two companions was a slender, crawling demon about five meters long.
"Mollian".
Wanda took a step back at the demon's disgusting appearance and called out to Morian, the phantom goddess beside her.
"snort."
Morrigan gritted her teeth, and the thin veil on her body tilted out, forming a huge ribbon that flew towards the demon.
"You can't kill me. Even if you destroy this body, I can still awaken alive again in the bodies of other people in this town," the demon said, slipping through the veil. "Didn't you notice how those people turned cold and numb again after leaving their tents?!"
Upon hearing this, Connors used Athena's Vision to look behind him and indeed saw that those people awakened by the Phantom Goddess Morian had returned to being like walking corpses.
"It's no use. This town has already been seduced and corrupted by Mephisto. Their souls are filled with sin and dark power. They've become numb, existing between life and death. You—?!"
Before the demon could finish speaking, Connors had already pulled Zatanna and Wanda into the air.
The Phantom Goddess Morian also flew into the sky with the three of them.
"What are you going to do?" Zatanna asked.
"I want to make a weapon," Connors said, reaching out to tear a piece of veil from the body of the Phantom Goddess Morian.
"Ting!"
Molly glared at Connors as he drifted far away, using her hand to firmly cover the torn part of the veil.
Connors simply laid the thin gauze flat in front of him, and blood immediately seeped from his fingertips, staining it red.
Then, Connors, unusually, used the chaos magic he had deciphered from Wanda and combined it with the blood curse of that medieval wizard from Earth 3 to write and draw on the veil.
With each stroke of Connors's pen, a shrill whistle of souls would fly in from below and burrow into the gauze, their numbers so great that they gradually formed a torrent of spirits.
"This town is called San Venganza, and this item in my hand is called the San Venganza Contract."
By the time Connors finished speaking, it was already midnight.
"This weapon doesn't seem to be for you or us," Wanda said, looking at the San Venganza Contract in Connors' hand.
"No, it wasn't. It was for him." Connors pointed into the distance, where a streak of fire was shooting straight toward the rising sun on the distant horizon.
"As agreed, I should wait for him on the east side," Connors said. "Wanda, Zuckerberg, you two go to the Mystery House and wait for me."
The two mages nodded and entered the mysterious house one after the other, while Connors himself flew eastward and eventually landed five hundred miles from the town of San Venganza.
This is exactly the route Johnny would take when traveling east.
This place is a cemetery, and a thin mist is rising from it under the cold, white moonlight, just like a scene that appears in most horror movies.
Connors sat leaning against a tombstone, fiddling with his handmade "San Venganza Contract," waiting for Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze to arrive.
boom!
The roar of the motorcycle reached his ears even faster than Connors had anticipated. With a crackling sound of flames burning, Johnny stopped the motorcycle, and his human form gradually emerged from the flames.
Johnny's first words to Connors were:
"I've been through a lot these past two days—"
"Shh," Connors gestured, "I know what you've done, and I know what you're going to do."
Johnny looked at the San Venganza Contract in Connors' hand:
"What is this?"
"These are the souls of millions who have been tempted and fallen into sin," Connors said, staring into Johnny's eyes. "It can grant you immense power."
Johnny looked away from the San Venganza Pact:
"They are innocent people."
"You want to save them?"
"I will save all those who need saving."
Connors handed over the San Van González decree:
"You have made a pact with the demon Mephisto, so you can choose to absorb those souls, which will make you even more powerful."
Johnny's hand froze on the spot, but his gaze remained unusually firm:
You must believe me.
"Believe in what?"
"He only controlled my soul, not my mind," Johnny said.
Mephisto could not have imagined that those who sold their souls only sold their souls.
Connors chuckled twice and handed the San Venganza Contract to Johnny:
"San Vengonzaga is 500 miles from here. We'd better act immediately before dawn."
Johnny took the San Van Gonzalez Contract and tucked it into his pocket, looking at Connors with a puzzled expression:
"us?"
