Chapter 130 Cooperation with Earth 3 (Bonus Chapter 2 for casual readers)
"Atomic Girl" cried unusually loudly.
After the mischievous girl told Connors that her body's density, toughness, elasticity, and other all-around qualities would increase after she shrunk, Connors grabbed her in his hand.
"Are you really crying?" Connors asked Atom.
Although he doesn't have any special hearing abilities, his superhuman hearing, resulting from "human limits" and "photosynthesis," allows him to clearly distinguish the emotions in sounds.
"Athena's Vision" allows Connors to not miss any detail of facial expressions or body language.
He could tell that "Atomic Girl" wasn't crying, or at least not crying in pain.
The crying of "Atomic Girl" stopped:
"Oh? You found out."
"You still have a lot of practice to do in front of me, little Rhonda," Connors said with a laugh.
"Okay, I'll practice, I definitely will!"
"Atomic Girl," Rhonda said with a grin.
Ever since she received Connors's assurance that he wouldn't kill her after everything was over, and even allowed her to stay and protect him...
"Atomic Girl" has become more and more lively, gradually abandoning the cruel, ruthless, and wicked image from the comics. Now she is a cute and adorable little girl.
While playing around with "Atomic Girl", the "Kusama Man" that Connors left on "Catwoman" is also constantly performing its proper eye positioning function.
"Samurai Sword" had little contact with Connors, only having heard of this "outsider" who did not join any organization, but she could never trust him unconditionally like "Dead Man".
So she shouted, "Dead man—"
The "dead man" had been pierced by the tentacles of the wandering spirits, but his expression showed no pain. Instead, he wore an expression of "I knew it," and spread his hands, challenging the spirits:
"and then?"
"What happened?" "Samurai Sword" asked in confusion.
"These dead souls draw power from the living, but if the target is a ghost—the effect is the opposite."
Phantom Stranger explained that he understood this almost the instant the "dead man" faced the departed soul.
A look of relief appeared on the "dead man's" face. Even though he had chosen to believe Connors, facing the spirits of the dead was no joke:
"Thankfully it worked, otherwise it would have been really scary. Connors helped me again."
Catwoman asked curiously from the side:
"Has Connors helped you many times?"
The "dead man" paused for a moment, then realized that Catwoman was asking him a question, and answered:
"No, but he helped the Justice League fight the monster Thompson, indirectly saving a life for the whole world. Including this time, I owe him two lives."
Batman urged:
"This isn't the time to talk about this. I think they'll recover soon, and we need to get out of here quickly. Phantom Stranger, you'd better find the door to leave this place."
Phantom Stranger corrected:
"It's not a door, but more like a mobile realm, closer to a state of consciousness than a physical location."
"Don't give me that. Someone's life hangs in the balance. I don't want explanations, I just want results."
The phantom stranger remained silent.
Connors's eyes, fixed on "Catwoman," clearly saw the Phantom Stranger's expression; he knew how much pain this seemingly comedic guy was in.
His grand entrance and the fact that Wonder Woman and Batman grabbed him by the collar and lifted him into the air were nothing compared to the burdens he carried.
In his search for his murdered wife and children, the Phantom Stranger has traversed heaven and earth for millennia, searching almost every corner of the world and its legends.
And after finding them, they lost them again.
Moreover, the Phantom Stranger was warned by the angels of Heaven that he was "never to go to Heaven again, or he would be completely erased from time and history."
Even so, the Phantom Stranger still led Batman and the other superheroes through the basement of Paradise, through the Cave of Desire and the Tunnel of Sorrow, to reach Paradise.
"This is paradise? This is just an ordinary residential area! There are even bicycles here!"
He shouted "Dead man!" He was extremely skeptical of the so-called "paradise" before him.
He wasn't questioning whether the Phantom Stranger had led the wrong way, but rather whether "Paradise" itself actually existed.
"Residential areas, countries, the world, and the universe—theoretically, there are as many heavens as there are souls, and each one is tailor-made for its own soul."
Phantom Stranger continued to act as a science popularizer, patiently explaining things to the superheroes.
He knew that this trip to heaven was a one-way journey, so he told the heroes everything he knew.
"But why is this place so down-to-earth, in Connors' words?" Batman asked.
"Perhaps this is paradise for some people, after all, 'paradise' is just a relative concept," Phantom Stranger explained.
Behind him were Batman, Katana, Dead Man, and Catwoman.
The "Catwoman" hadn't heard of these high-sounding concepts; she was more concerned with how the fruit sold in "Heaven" tasted, and casually asked:
"Is Dr. Hikaru here?"
The Phantom Stranger answered without turning his head:
"No, I'll sense it if he's here. That means we have to find his own paradise, one tailor-made for him—"
There was no sound behind him, so the Phantom Stranger hurriedly turned around, but there was no one behind him.
"Batman? Catwoman? Katana? Dead men?"
The Phantom Stranger's face showed a bewildered and helpless expression.
The streets of Paradise are bustling with taxis, dog walkers, skateboarders, and people carrying flowers—but no superheroes.
"I made a mistake, a terrible mistake."
"In a world where thought creates matter, an individual's inner world can instantly create their own paradise."
"I should have thought of that."
The Phantom Stranger trembled as he removed his top hat and sighed deeply, for his oversight would indefinitely prolong the journey.
The story stretches to the point where Superman is dead, and the heroes are wallowing in the paradise they created. The moment Wonder Woman gets her hands on the Pandora's Box, with a sigh, the Phantom Stranger notices a small scarecrow on the ground where Catwoman had just been standing.
That was the "Kusama Man" that Connors had left on "Catwoman" beforehand.
The Phantom Stranger looked at the scarecrow with suspicion, bent down to pick it up, but the scarecrow grew rapidly, bigger and bigger.
It transformed into Connors wearing a trench coat and a black cigarette cloak.
"I'll help you find those heroes, and in return, you help me hide this scarecrow in Batman's private paradise, how about it?"
Connors and the Phantom Stranger spoke to each other across the distance.
This is part of his deal with Thomas Wayne Jr., the "Night Owl" from Earth-3.
