Chapter 1088: A Future Worth Fighting For [Part 2]
After listening to the two girls talk for a while, Ethan suddenly remembered Lily's letter. His lover mentioned meeting twin girls who called her Mother-in-law.
'I believe their names are Maple and Cinnamon,' Ethan thought. 'But what are they doing?'
After connecting the dots together, he deemed that the twin boys were his and Lily's future sons.
Seeing this scene made Ethan remember that his wife had been captured by the Progenitors, making him feel a little anxious.
Just as Ethan was thinking along these lines, another person appeared in the projection, taking him by surprise.
She was very cute, the type that men would want to hold, cherish, and protect all their lives. Upon seeing her, Ethan thought of only one thing.
'She might be Maple and Cinnamon's sister,' Ethan mused.
However, this idea instantly shattered when the adorable girl, whom the young man believed was Maple, walked toward her sister with a smile on her face.
"Zach, this is my Mama and your future mother-in-law," Maple said as she showed her mother the baby in her arms. "Say, 'Hi Mama.""
The baby didn't do as instructed, but he still looked at Cinnamon as if wondering who the beautiful lady was.
Usually, Zach and Zayne would cry when there were strangers around.
However, since Chiffon looked a bit like Maple, Zach behaved properly and simply observed the lady in front of him.
"See?" Maple said with pride. "He's so well-behaved, right?"
Not wanting to be left out, Cinnamon also approached Chiffon, holding Zayne in her arms. "Zayne, this is my Mama," Cinnamon said.
The baby, Zayne, reached out his hands towards the twin girls' mama, as if he wanted to be held by her.
However, Ethan had a strong suspicion that his son just wished to escape from the clutches of Cinnamon, which made him feel a bit anxious about his sons' future.
The baby then wrapped his arms around Chiffon's neck and rested his head on her shoulder.
He then closed his eyes to sleep, making Cinnamon smile.
"Zayne likes Mama very much," Cinnamon commented. "I think that he's happy to see his mother-in-law~"
"He's just a baby," the young lady, whom Ethan originally assumed to be Maple and Cinnamon's sister, replied with a helpless look on her face. "He still doesn't know many things. Let's talk about this again when he's older."
"Okay."
"Mmm."
The scene faded, and this time, Ethan saw something that made his heart melt for the umpteenth time.
He saw himself laying on a couch, with a little Catkin around one to two years old curled on top of his chest, purring as he lightly patted her head.
Her little tail was moving left and right behind her back, making Ethan want to see Lilith right now and ask her to give birth to his child then and there.@@@@
However, he knew that it wasn't possible at the moment, so he simply burned this image into his memory.
"I'm getting jealous," Lilith said as soon as she appeared in the scene, crouching down to kiss her beloved and her daughter.
The little cat girl stretched out her arm, as if asking Lilith to join them.
Ethan chuckled and moved his free hand to pat Lilith's head, making the latter smile bitterly. "Do you want me to purr for you as well?" Lilith asked in a teasing tone.
The next scene showed Emma teaching a young lady, who seemed to be around nine to ten
years old, potion crafting.
"When you grow up, I'll teach you how to craft a love potion," Emma said in a teasing tone.
"Mom, I don't need to learn that kind of potion," the girl replied.
"Well, you'll never know what the future holds."
"But Mom, you didn't have to use a love potion to marry Father, right?"
"That's because our circumstances are special," Emma answered. "If they weren't, I might have used a love potion to make your father fall for me, you know?"
"... Really?"
"Really. Your father was very popular when he was in the academy. Actually, some witches
even crafted some love potions and thought of many ways to add it to his food and drinks.
"But I was one step faster and made sure he became immune to them by letting him drink the
potions I made to counter those kinds of potions."
"Mom, teach me how to make that potion." The girl said.
"Good." Emma nodded. "Now, remember, you need to add a drop of your..."
Ethan pretended that he didn't hear the rest of Emma's words.
Suddenly, a familiar giant head appeared before him, with a smirk plastered on its face.
Ethan looked at Mimir with a serious expression on his face.
"Are all of those scenes real?" Ethan asked.
"They are real and not real at the same time," Mimir replied. "They are the possible futures
that might happen if you survive this calamity. If you don't, those things will not come to pass and will merely be possibilities that will be buried in the passing of time."
The wise Giant then looked at the young man and asked him a question. "So, Ethan, do you think those futures are worth fighting for?" Mimir asked. "Yes," Ethan replied in a heartbeat. "They are worth fighting for."
Mimir nodded. "Then, before you leave this place, there is still one battle that is waiting for you."
Behind Mimir, a monstrous creature, hundreds of meters long, appeared within the vastness of the void.
It was a creature that not many individuals had the honor to see in their lifetime, but those lucky enough to see it would uncontrollably gasp due to how breathtaking it was.
A draconic serpent, whose main body seemed to span for miles, appeared in front of Ethan.
Its form looked like the symbol of infinity.
But what caught Ethan's attention was the fact that the Draconic snake seemed to be holding
the end of its tail inside its mouth.
Its monstrous eyes then looked down on Ethan, as if he was just some kind of insect.
And yet, for some reason, this unfathomable monster seemed familiar, though unfamiliar to him at the same time.
