Chapter 1072: A Love Story That Would Stand The Test Of Time [Part 1]
Contrary to Ethan's expectations, Nicole surprisingly cooked decently.
Of course, she didn't prepare anything too complicated. It was just fish and chips, which lessened the young man's anxiety.
"For some reason, it's irritating to see you tense then suddenly relax," Nicole said after she finished eating. "I've been practicing, you know?"
"Um? What are you talking about?" Ethan asked back with a smile. "I was the one who taught you how to cook, so I've always believed you could do it well as long as you put your heart and mind into it."
Nicole gave him the "I don't believe you" gaze, but Ethan was quick to help her clean the dishes and avoided eye contact as much as possible.
After eating, the two went outside of the tree house and sat under the shade of the tree, leaning on its trunk.
A gentle and refreshing breeze blew past them, making Ethan sigh as he rested his head on Nicole's lap.
The young lady suddenly told him to lay down and use her lap as a pillow. Since there was no reason for him to reject her request, he decided to just do what Nicole asked of him.
"You might not believe this, but I dreamt of doing this for a very long time, Mr. Ghost," Nicole said while running her fingers through his hair.
"You did?" Ethan asked.
"Yes."
"I'm glad you did."
Nicole giggled before lightly pinching Ethan's cheek.
"You think I'm simple, right?" Nicole inquired. "But back then, I really wished we could have done this. Unfortunately, my hands would only pass through your body, so I wasn't able to repay you for everything that you've done for me."
A sigh then escaped the young lady's lips. For her, meeting Mr. Ghost was the best thing that happened in her life.
"Why are you sighing?" Ethan asked. "Don't you know that every time you sigh, a part of your happiness leaks away?"
As if ignoring his words, Nicole sighed a second time before placing her hand over Ethan's chest.
"You've done so many things to me, Mr. Ghost," Nicole said. "I guess I have no choice but to repay you with my body. You said earlier that every time I sigh, a piece of happiness leaks, right? Then how about you fill me up with happiness and make sure you plug it up properly, so it doesn't leak ever again?"
Nicole then used her left hand to cover Ethan's eyes, preventing him from seeing her expression at the moment.
She had spoken her thoughts out loud because she was unable to hold back the emotions that were rising within her chest.
"You really like cuddles, don't you?" Ethan asked as Nicole buried her face in his chest,
hugging him tightly.
"I've been alone for a long time," Nicole replied. "And cuddling with you makes me feel at
peace."
"Then let's cuddle a bit more." Ethan kissed her forehead. "Don't worry. I'm not going away."
"Mmm." Nicole nodded and hugged him tighter.
Perhaps feeling at peace and satisfied with the happiness that wrapped her up in a loving embrace, the young lady fell asleep in Ethan's arms.
Ethan also closed his eyes, and soon, both of them were sleeping soundly.
A few hours later, Ethan slowly opened his eyes and realized that the skies had already turned
reddish purple.
The sun was setting, and the first stars were winking at them from the heavens.
Seemingly sensing Ethan's movement, Nicole also opened her eyes. She then found herself in Ethan's embrace, making her want to stay there for a little while longer.
But a few minutes later, Ethan lightly patted her head and asked her to look at their
surroundings.
When Nicole obeyed, she saw many lights around them that would appear and disappear from time to time.
"Fireflies," Nicole muttered when she recognized what they were. "I remember experiencing
a similar scene during my childhood."
The young lady had very few wonderful memories when she was young, and she treasured
them very much.
Seeing the look of nostalgia and sadness on her face, Ethan decided to give her another wonderful memory and kissed her cheek.
Making a promise to himself that he would love and cherish her until the day he drew his last
breath.
