The slacker professor at Hogwarts

Chapter 190 Scamander Farm Estate

Lockhart then enjoyed a pleasant time at Scamander Farm Estate.

He knew that Newt's son was so enthusiastic in inviting him to stay because he was worried that the spell might have some kind of impact or aftereffect on his father, and hoped that he could be there to help in time.

It's human nature; he can understand it.

In contrast, Newt was exceptionally enthusiastic. During their conversation, he learned that Newt planned to become a professor of magical creature conservation at Hogwarts next semester, and took him to meet the various animals raised on the farm.

Newt's legs had recovered considerably in the past few days. Leaning on a cane, he led Lockhart to a group of Glalings and explained how to get close to these magical creatures by sharing candy.

But Lockhart actually knew what to do.

Because while he was helping Newt back up his professional memories, he secretly made a backup for himself.

The spell was far from as easy as Newt and his son had imagined. The reason it seemed to be done so quickly was partly due to Lockhart's increasingly profound understanding of the realm of memory, and partly due to Newt's extremely cooperative opening of his soul.

Few people are willing to let down their guard so easily; it's no easy feat. The old man before me possesses a magnanimity that is hard for most to imagine and an attitude towards life that is closer to nature.

He wasn't smug about how easily he stole someone's memories; instead, he grew to admire Newt even more.

"Glaring's features are very distinctive. Apart from being entirely gray, its wings always give a unique sense of lightness. It is the fastest flying of all the Pegasus."

"The common Pegasus populations nowadays each have their own distinct characteristics. The Divine Horse has the most magnificent appearance, the strongest body, and is the strongest Pegasus." Newt winked slightly as he introduced it. "Hagrid once rode a Divine Horse at another of my animal farms, so you can imagine how strong it is."

Lockhart exclaimed "Wow!" and, recalling Hagrid's massive, imposing physique, nodded in amazement, "I can picture it now!"

Newt continued, "Isher dragons have chestnut-colored manes and are the most common winged horses in Britain and Ireland. They are known for being easy to care for and are a permitted mode of transport by the Ministry of Magic. Very few Isher dragons possess the ability to breathe fire."

"You should have seen Thestrals at Hogwarts. Only wizards who have witnessed death can see them. Their emaciated appearance often leads wizards to believe they are the mount of Death and bring bad luck. But in reality, they have a very stable temperament and extraordinary navigational abilities. They are the only magical creatures that have a better way of finding their way than owls."

He gave a strange smile. "Dumbledore loves to travel on Thestrals, but he has no idea how frightening it is to many people."

Thestrals, Glalings, Runehorns, and Iserlongs are the four most common pegasus breeds in the wizarding world. Each breed stands out from countless other pegasus varieties with its unique and superior bloodline, making them widely loved by wizards.

As they chatted, Newt began to teach Lockhart how to stroke the backs of the pegasus, the Glaling, which would give them a unique sense of pleasure. Then, by observing the state of their eyes and tails, he could analyze the message the other was trying to convey.

Just then, Newt's son came over with a large bucket of chocolate rainbow candies and poured them into the manger. The surrounding Grallings all ran over, but the Gralling that Lockhart was stroking comfortably suddenly hesitated, glancing at Lockhart one moment and then at the manger the next.

"Go eat," Newt said with a smile, patting the horse's back and urging it to eat.

As the horse galloped past with light steps, it somewhat domineeringly tried to drive away the other Grallings, only to be scolded by Newt's son. A lively scene unfolded in the distance.

“My son is a professor at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; he graduated from there,” Newt said with a smile, secretly watching Lockhart’s expression. “The reason he didn’t choose Hogwarts was that I wanted him to stay away from that place that leans more towards ancient wizarding traditions, away from political activities like bloodline issues, so that his life could be purer.”

Lockhart looked at the little old man, who couldn't hide his expression, with amusement. "It's best to stay away from politics. Politics is the most boring thing, and I prefer magic."

"In fact, rather than exploring the future of Muggles and wizards from a political perspective, I prefer to look at it from a magical perspective."

Newt's eyes lit up. "Are you also exploring these kinds of topics?"

Newt himself certainly dislikes politics and has no interest in discussing Muggles and wizards; he is more pure of heart. However, his son seems more willing to pay attention to such matters, though only to magic.

His son, Scamander Jr., came over with a cheerful smile as he watched the Pegasus scrambling for the candy. Hearing the discussion, he joined in, saying, "When I teach magical creature conservation at school, I focus on exploring the types of magical creatures that might benefit Muggle and wizarding life in the future. Pegasus is one of the main topics I teach."

"It's easier for Muggles to accept, easier for everyone to feel the beauty of magical creatures, and will make more people willing to come into contact with, accept, and get close to magical creatures."

The group chatted freely, and Newt's "Man and Nature," Scamander's "Exploring the Future Life of Wizards and Muggles," and Lockhart's "Theory of Fairy Tale Life" seemed to find common ground on some level. They shared their explorations in their respective fields and benefited greatly from each other's experiences.

Gradually, Newt and Scamander's vague wariness of Lockhart completely disappeared.

Pure people can sense whether another soul is pure. Newt isn't actually a socially anxious person; he simply prefers to communicate with pure beings, whether animals or humans.

The group discussed everything from Newt's life as a human and magical creature, to Lockhart's wizarding life which brought about the "animalistic" manifestation of magical creatures, to Scamander's exploration of the future life of wizards and Muggles, and was taken by Scamander to a unique large fish tank.

The aquarium, resembling a large lake, is nestled among low mountains. It uses magic to simulate the environment of ocean tides, and some golden marine fish that look somewhat like remoras live inside.

"The ocean is a place that Muggle life has not truly conquered. The great help that magical creatures bring in this regard will allow Muggles and wizards to live together more harmoniously."

Even though the Secrecy Act restricts wizards and Muggles from living separately, Scamander Jr. firmly believes in the future trend of integration. Although he has not put forward any political proposals, he is quietly preparing for such a future.

He introduced the magical creature he was breeding and optimizing: "The Lamora fish has powerful magic that can anchor ships at sea, even in the most terrifying ocean storms. It will provide the most solid foundation for human exploration of the ocean, allowing humans to enter the sea as if they were living on land."

The father and son's passion for their respective fields of research undoubtedly pointed Lockhart in the right direction.

They, who also dislike political narratives, devote their energy to practical work and contribute to a better future. Their current explorations may not be praised by people, but they are enough to have a profound impact.

Lockhart seemed to see a real path leading to the future.

He began to seek wisdom in this area more sincerely, a wisdom that shone with brilliance and could not be replaced by knowledge from memory; it was the most beautiful radiance of humanity.
