Chapter 466 Heart-to-Heart Talk
As the sun sets, winter nights always come early; it was only afternoon, and the sky was already dark.
Lupin stood thoughtfully in the castle corridor, with Loila working not far away.
"call----"
He took a deep breath, and a wave of sorrow washed over him.
Is Royla the murderer?
Lupin was torn. He had never believed that Loila would do such a thing, but Sirius's letter—and Steinberg's words—had left him with lingering doubts.
If he doesn't find any useful clues while searching for them, he'll start to wonder if it's related to the magic circle—when examining the scene, he'll also wonder if the traces were left by the magic circle.
Lupin hated this feeling, hated the feeling of having to doubt his friends—just like back then—
The James family met a violent end, and Lupin never imagined Sirius would betray them—after that, he lost three friends at once—
"Sigh—" He sighed again—he dared not think about what it would mean if Loila really was the murderer.
She can't be the murderer—absolutely not—
"Professor Lupin, what are you doing here?"
Hearing the voice behind him, Lupin turned his head slightly and saw Miss Siegfried von Ansbach with a calm expression.
She was Durmstrang's hero, and Lupin had some impression of her. She always looked very serious in class, but her expression was always the same.
However, she didn't seem to treat herself well, and the same went for Loila.
It's really rare for him to greet me today.
"I didn't do anything, just daydreaming," Lupin said after thinking for a moment. "And you, Miss Ansbach?"
"No classes today, right?"
"Hmm—" Siegfried nodded gently, then slowly stood beside Lupin, looking at the figure not far away.
Was she here to see Roy? Are she and Roy friends? It doesn't seem like it—could she just be passing by?
Lupin, unaware of Siegfried's intentions, shook his head slightly, preparing to leave, but just as he lifted his foot, he heard Siegfried's voice.
"Professor Lupin—are you friends with Professor Hamilton?"
"Huh?" Lupin paused for a moment. "Yeah, what's wrong?"
Siegfried was silent for a few seconds, then turned to look at Lupin quietly before slowly saying, "You and he do look somewhat alike."
"Him?" Lupin was stunned.
Who is this "he" that Miss Ansbach is talking about? And—what does she know about Loira?
While much of what Steinberg said was nonsense, he did make one point: Lupin himself didn't really know much about Loila.
His understanding was basically what he heard from Headmaster Dumbledore—or perhaps from Roy's own mutterings.
Looking at Siegfried now, Lupin realized that this man, who looked like just an ordinary student, seemed to know a lot.
"Have you met Professor Hamilton yet?" Lupin asked slowly.
"no."
"Then what you called him—"
"Professor Lupin—this is perhaps not a question you should be asking." Siegfried coldly refused Lupin, her dark eyes slightly closed.
All of these actions made Lupin narrow his eyes slightly.
She definitely knows something—it's related to Roy.
"Yes, Miss Ansbach," Lupin paused and said slowly, "I am currently investigating the death of Principal Karkaroff with Mr. Steinberg."
"Therefore, I need to gather all possible useful intelligence."
"So you suspect your friend?" Siegfried sneered. "Suspect she's the murderer?"
"You and Mr. Steinberger actually think so alike?"
Did Steinberg also contact her?
This made Lupin frown slightly. He was silent for a few seconds before saying, "That's not what I meant, Miss Ansbach."
"On the contrary—I don't doubt her, I want to help her."
"—" Siegfried fell silent as well. She looked at Lupin in thought for a long time, and finally gently shook her head, saying, "Are you curious about who 'he' is?"
"But the answer is actually quite boring," Siegfried said, looking at Loila. "She might have already forgotten about him."
"After all, almost sixty years have passed."
Lupin raised an eyebrow and said slowly, "I don't think so."
"Forgetting isn't so easy."
"You have no right to say such things!" Upon hearing this, Siegfried almost instantly looked up angrily at Lupin, glaring at him. "How could you possibly know what it feels like to be forgotten?"
"How could you possibly know what the consequences would be for someone who was once highly anticipated to die without accomplishing anything?"
"And how could you possibly know—how did that person's family spend their remaining time after they died?"
"Even though almost sixty years have passed, it still feels like it happened yesterday to my family."
Lupin was not surprised by Siegfried's sudden anger. He simply looked at Siegfried quietly, and after she had finished speaking, he slowly—quietly—gently said, "Of course I know."
"Because that's the protagonist of my story." Lupin gave a wry smile: "Twenty years ago, I had three friends."
"And fourteen years ago, one of them betrayed everyone and killed two other people besides me."
"He was once a man on whom great hopes were placed, the heir to a large family—and he was also very handsome and had a charming way of speaking."
"And he is now the fugitive I'm hunting—and now I'm going to kill his former godson." Lupin said, looking at the stunned Siegfried. "So, Miss Ansbach—I understand what you're saying."
"They can all understand."
"Because I experience these things every single moment—when I see Harry I think of them, when I see the moon I think of them—when I walk through every corridor of Hogwarts I think of them." Lupin said, shrugging. "That's why—"
"That's why I want to help Loila."
"If I had tried harder back then—perhaps they wouldn't have died. If I hadn't let them do that, perhaps everything would be different now." Lupin nodded to Siegfried. "So, Miss Ansbach—I hope you can give me this opportunity to help Loira."
"I want to know—who is he—and I also want to know what Mr. Steinberger told you."
'
Siegfried fell silent. She stared at Lupin in silence for a very long time, so long that the clocks in the corridor clicked countless times.
Finally, she sighed softly, "Professor Lupin."
"The answer might not be as interesting as you think—and it has nothing to do with what you're doing right now."
"Perhaps so," Lu Ping said frankly, "but I want to get to know Miss Loila Hamilton, and I'm willing to."
"Only by understanding her better can I help her."

"Especially in such a dangerous situation."
