Chapter 457 The Labyrinth
Loila started construction early in the morning, after all, there were not many days left before the start of the third game, and Dumbledore would definitely be very angry if it was not completed on time.
"They might torture me with the Cruciatus Curse or something —" Loila pursed her lips and looked at the grass in front of her.
She found a large open space next to the Quidditch pitch and decided to use it as the venue for the third match. So, first of all, Royla needed to use magic to construct a match field.
Before the official start, she reviewed the content of the past dozen or so Flame Cup competitions and ultimately decided to follow some tradition, not because she really didn't have any good ideas.
In short, just like the most frequently appearing maze in the previous dozen or so competitions, Loila also wants to construct a maze of her own.
So the first thing to do is build a wall—Loila pursed her lips, gently raised her wand, and flicked it. A loud rumble came from the ground in front of her, and with that rumble, a stone wall slowly rose up.
Loila had already designed the map of the maze. She had "borrowed" one from one of Mr. Lockhart's books and made some slight modifications, which should be enough to confuse the students.
While looking down at the map, Loila flicked her wand, pulling up stone walls one after another on the flat ground.
However, a single-level maze wouldn't suffice, so Royla planned to construct an underground palace, and then, according to the competition's requirements, place the Goblet of Fire at its deepest point.
Loila flicked her wand, creating another small hole in the ground—a hole that would serve as a staircase connecting the upper and lower levels—and if someone wasn't careful and stepped into an empty space, they would fall directly into the water of the underground labyrinth.
Loila was actually thinking about setting up some spike traps, but the participants weren't Aurors or anything like that; they were just a group of students—it was better not to cause any deaths.
Especially Miss Delacour, who is one of my few mixed-race Veela compatriots!
Thinking this, Loila filled in the puddle below the hole.
It must be said that constructing a maze is a rather complicated task. Loila had been busy all morning and had only managed to complete a tiny bit, not even a tenth of the map—and this was just the beginning for the entire game.
Because she also had to inscribe magic circles on almost every wall of the maze to prevent students from destroying them with spells, and she also had to inscribe anti-apparition spells on the ground to prevent students from directly using apparition—and then she had to forbid them from modifying the magic circles, lest some genius student dare to modify them and cause trouble—
Oh dear—thinking about it, there's so much work to do—Loila twitched her ears but didn't feel tired. Instead, she found it quite interesting. After all, designing a maze was quite fun, especially since it was so big.
It's much bigger than when it was in Nurmengard! After all, when setting up magic arrays and traps in a castle, you also need to consider the issue of your own people.
There isn't a single one of our own here!
Hehe! Loila looked at the trap that had been set up in front of her and couldn't help but reveal a mischievous smile.
I wonder who will step in there?
"Professor Hamilton!"
"Ugh!" Just as she was thinking this, Loila was startled by the sound behind her. She slipped and almost fell into the pit she had just dug.
Fortunately, at that moment, the person behind her reached out and grabbed Loila's robe, then pulled her back forcefully.
"Are you alright, Professor Hamilton?" The man seemed a little surprised as well. He said slowly, "Did I startle you?"
"Ugh—Ugh—" Loila's face was a little pale. She had almost fallen into that pit. The pit hadn't been filled with water yet. If she had fallen in, it would have been terrible.
And—and is this pit really that deep?—I only dug out rice—but it's so—so high!
Loila shrank back slightly, moving a little further away from the pit.
After a few seconds of this, she slowly turned her head to look at the person who had startled her and then pulled her back.
Hmm————
"It's Mr. Steinberg!" Roy thought, his previously relaxed expression turning tense again.
After all, he was the detective in charge of investigating the Karkaroff case—and he himself happened to be the murderer—it wouldn't be good if he were accidentally discovered.
Loila nodded cautiously and asked, "Is...is there something wrong?"
"What are you doing, Professor Hamilton?" Steinberg asked slowly. "This is—" he said, glancing at the surrounding walls.
"This is—this is the venue for the third match," Loila whispered. "That—that the students can't know about—"
"I see—" Steinberg nodded knowingly, then reached out and touched the wall. "So the third match is in the maze?"
"Hmm—" Loila hadn't expected that Mr. Steinberger would see through it so quickly, even though she hadn't made many things yet—
"Professor Hamilton, are you in charge all by yourself? That's quite a busy task," Steinberg said, shaking his head.
"N-nothing—it's nothing." Loila forced a smile. "This is quite interesting—"
"After that, I will engrave—"
"Then I have an interesting question for Professor Hamilton." Steinberg seemed uninterested in Loila's discussion of magic circles or mazes. He coughed to interrupt Loila and asked, "I saw you, Professor Hamilton, acting suspiciously in the castle yesterday."
"Huh?" Loila paused for a moment, her pointed ears twitching.
Yesterday—wasn't that the room Dumbledore was looking for? Roy now knows the name of that room.
Always responsive to requests—that's a name that fits its function—anyway, I was doing something productive yesterday. I didn't do anything strange.
But how should I explain it? Should I tell him about the existence of that room? And Dumbledore didn't say anything either—
Loila hesitated, clutching the corner of her clothes, her eyes darting away as she looked at her feet.
"Professor Hamilton, may I ask what you are doing?" Steinberg asked slowly, "though this may be presumptuous."
But there was no sign of understanding in your tone—Steinberg's serious face made Loira bite her lip in fear. After a few seconds of silence, she whispered, "I—I went because Dumbledore—told me—"
"Headmaster Dumbledore?" Sterberg's eyes narrowed, and after a few seconds of silence, he nodded slightly.
"Can you tell me what it's related to?"
"This seems... seems a bit inconvenient..." Loila said, taking a few steps back, just in case he suspected her and wanted to arrest her, she could still escape.
However, Steiberg didn't seem to have that thought. He nodded slightly and said, "I understand, Professor Hamilton."
"Then I've disturbed you." With that, he turned and left, seemingly to investigate elsewhere.
What a scary guy!
Loila patted her cheeks as she watched his retreating figure.
