Chapter 434 The Great Detective Lupin
"Good afternoon, Loila." At the edge of the Forbidden Forest, near the Black Lake, stood the refined and smiling Lupin.
Opposite him was Loila, who looked utterly helpless.
"Good afternoon, Remus—"
"To be honest—I didn't think you'd come," Lupin said with a shrug and a smile. "After all, you don't seem to like these kinds of jobs."
"Yes—yes—" If I hadn't joined the Order of the Phoenix—if I hadn't been held hostage by Dumbledore—and Dumbledore, you bastard—the condition you used in exchange was just the help you were supposed to provide in the first place?
anger!
Roy would never have done such a thing under any circumstances—but she still didn't have the courage to refuse Dumbledore—it was a little scary if he got angry or something.
Although this matter seems very strange no matter how you look at it.
Dumbledore hopes that Royla can help Lupin and Hagrid investigate clues at the scene of Karkaroff's death.
Should we ask the murderer to help investigate the clues?
What was she thinking? — And — Loila didn't think there would be any valuable clues — after all, so many days had passed.
Isn't it a bit too late to start investigating now?
"It's sealed off by a spell, just like it was a few days ago," Lupin, still walking beside her, explained to Loira, scratching his face as he added, "Besides, there's no one at the Ministry of Magic who understands magic circles as well as you do."
"Some of them suspect it might be related to a magic circle."
They were right after all—after all, the wand they used to kill Karkaroff was engraved with a magic circle.
Speaking of which, I still have that wand on me—wouldn't it be terrible if I got caught?
Loila instinctively shrank back.
"Is it a bit cold?" Lupin asked instinctively.
"No—no." Loila quickly shook her head. Mr. Lupin was really perceptive; she had to be careful not to let him see through anything.
"You seem to be in a better mood lately," Lupin remarked casually as they walked.
"Ah—yes—really?" Was she being too obvious? Loila quickly rubbed her face. "I was also—very sad—about Principal Karkaroff's death."
"Hmm?" Lupin paused for a moment, then raised an eyebrow. "I don't think I mentioned Karkaroff either—"
"Could it be?" He suddenly stopped and looked at Loira, then lowered his voice and muttered, "This has something to do with you, doesn't it?"
"Ah—I—" Loila was startled for a moment. She stammered and tried to explain, but Lupin just smiled and said, "Just kidding."
"Loila, how could you do something like this?" He seemed to be laughing very happily, almost shaking his shoulders as he said, "And I remember you were busy being—an actress back then, weren't you?"
"Even for you, the prerequisite is that you first need to learn the art of creating clones, right?"
"Ah—yes—yes—" Loila nodded somewhat awkwardly, startled by Mr. Lupin's unexpected joke.
She quickly patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm sorry, Loila—" Lupin, noticing that Loila's face was a little pale, pursed his lips and apologized, "I just wanted to—make a joke like other people do."
"Did my joke go too far?"
"No—no!" Loira immediately waved her hand. How could her friend be wrong? It must be her fault as the murderer. Of course—the fault wasn't in killing Karkarov, but in not realizing it was a joke.
Even though Roy said no, Lupin still seemed apologetic, so the two fell silent.
Fortunately, they soon arrived at a slightly open area.
Loira certainly remembered this place; after all, this was where she had killed Karkaroff—she even remembered where Karkaroff had fallen and the look in his eyes.
A little sleepy — and a little resentful?
Okay, actually I don't remember very clearly. The only thing that's clear is that feeling of relaxation.
"This is the scene," Lupin said slowly. "Royla, this must be your first time here, right?"
"Um—yes—yes." Loila nodded obediently.
This is Loira's first time here; the last time was as Mr. Potter.
"That's where Karkaroff was found." Lupin pointed to a patch of grass that had been slightly flattened. Even though many days had passed, it was still well preserved because of the curse.
There's no difference from before.
You can even vaguely make out a human shape—but that's all.
That's about it—you can't really tell anything else—at least not from Roy.
Even if it was there at the time, she should have cleaned it up with her wand.
Now this place looks like just a meadow.
"Have you discovered anything, Loila?" Lupin asked instinctively, noticing Loila's dazed expression.
"No—no." Loila pursed her lips and said, "There are no traces of magic circles here."
"Then it seems this matter has nothing to do with the magic array—" Lupin nodded knowingly. "Come to think of it—after all, there aren't many people who know magic arrays, are there?"
Lupin sighed as he spoke, "If it has nothing to do with the magic array, then the only person we can suspect—is Sirius Black, isn't he?"
"Sirius—" Loila had almost forgotten about him, but she was still very grateful to him. As a fugitive, it was perfect for him to take the blame for her.
"Rem—Rem, do you think—this might have been done by him and—and the Death Eaters?" Loila thought for a moment and steered the conversation slightly away from the topic.
"Very likely—" Lupin said somewhat hesitantly, "but not necessarily—"
"I have a feeling that something is off—" he said, looking down at the patch of grass.
"It's so—clean—" he muttered. "And why—is Karkaroff here?"
Hmm—is Mr. Lupin some kind of famous detective?
Loila took a few steps back in fear, wondering if she had really left some clues behind.
There shouldn't be any—if there were, they would have all been discovered by the Aurors—I need to stay calm.
I have an alibi—I'm the safest person here—
"Maybe—he's in cahoots with the Death Eaters?" Roy decided to slightly disrupt Mr. Lupin's thoughts, even though it was not a good idea—but she really didn't want Mr. Lupin to figure anything out.
"Are they with the Death Eaters?" Lupin paused for a moment, then frowned slightly.
Ok?
Loila, expecting a rebuttal, was surprised to see him suddenly start thinking. — No — Mr. Lupin, don't suddenly take my nonsense so — so seriously!
I'll feel a little embarrassed!
"Roy—I must say—that's actually a line of thought." Lupin chuckled softly, as if he'd figured something out: "But that doesn't seem to explain why they're fighting amongst themselves."
"Unless the killer isn't a Death Eater or Sirius."
"Ugh!" Loila immediately shuddered—she should have known better than to talk nonsense. How did Mr. Lupin manage to hit the nail on the head with her nonsense!
"But if it's not them, then no one else could possibly be, right?" Lupin shook his head, seemingly giving up on thinking about it further. He looked at Loila and said slowly, "However, since it has nothing to do with the magic circle—we probably won't find any clues here either."
He looked up at the already darkening sky and said, "It's getting late, shall we head back?"
"Hmm...okay...okay!" Loila couldn't wait to get back to Hogwarts.
If we stay here, Mr. Lupin might actually figure something out!
