Chapter 64: Many Detectives Gather in One Room
Chapter 64: Many Detectives Gather in One Room
She saw Li Ang and waved to him.
"Over here! Over here!"
Charlotte didn't go over; she sat down in the second row. Seeing this, Leon had no choice but to follow and sit next to her.
Seeing that neither of them intended to come over, Shirley naturally flipped over from the first row and sat down next to Li Ang, taking out a bag of cookies from her pocket.
"Want some? I bought it from the shop near the association entrance; it's pretty good."
"Is eating allowed here?" Li Ang couldn't help but ask.
"Probably not?" Shirley scratched her head, clearly unsure herself. "But it doesn't matter! The trial hasn't even started yet anyway."
After she finished speaking, she handed the cookies forward again.
"No, you can eat it yourself."
Charlotte refused without even glancing at it, while Leon politely picked up a piece, chewed it quickly, and swallowed it.
He dared not eat so casually in a place like the blue-haired girl in front of him; it would be troublesome if he attracted attention.
There were other people in the audience.
Li Ang's gaze swept over three people, all young girls, dressed in different styles of detective uniforms or casual clothes.
The closest person to them was a girl with a high ponytail, her white hair neatly combed, wearing a well-tailored black long dress with a dark gray short jacket over it.
Although she is very young and beautiful, her lips are pursed into a thin line, giving people a feeling that she is not easy to approach.
"Fibel Grey," Charlotte whispered. "Sequence 7, detective. Don't talk to her; she doesn't like talking to strangers."
Sitting on the far left was a blonde, blue-eyed young woman, about twenty years old, wearing a neatly tailored dark blue uniform with the Detective Association's emblem embroidered on her epaulets.
She sat upright, her hands folded on her knees, her gaze fixed on the judge's bench, completely ignoring the commotion on Charlotte's side.
"Alice Klüth, Sequence 7, Armed Detective, and also Sherry's colleague."
"Yes. But that guy is too rigid!"
After hearing Charlotte's introduction, Sherry added a comment from the side.
Then a black-haired girl entered. She was not tall and was wearing a light blue dress.
Her eyes lit up when she saw Charlotte, and she strode over, extending her hand. "Holmes, it's been a long time! I haven't seen you since that case in the East End!"
Charlotte extended her hand and shook hers. "Cartasia Walkerian. Are you healed?"
"It's all healed now!" She raised her right hand and shook it, showing the scar on the back of her hand. "Luckily, the criminal didn't stab too deep, otherwise I would have had to call the people in the medical department."
"So, is this your assistant?" She then turned her gaze to Li Ang.
"Hello. I am Leon Moriarty." Seeing this, Leon had no choice but to greet her.
"Um... Armed Detective..." Caltacia looked rather hesitant, then reluctantly extended her hand. "Hello."
Clearly, it seems they are bothered by Li Ang's identity as an armed detective.
Li Ang simply extended his hand and shook it lightly, thus ending this brief exchange.
Then several more people walked into the venue, and Charlotte whispered the name of each one to him, but there were too many people for Li Ang to remember.
Moreover, only one of the girls came over to greet Charlotte; the others didn't even glance at her.
When the fifth girl walked in, Li Ang's eyes lit up.
He recognized the other person; it was Elena, the armed detective wielding a laser cannon.
When the other person saw Charlotte and Leon, their eyes lit up. Just as they were about to take a step, a girl in the front row coughed lightly.
"Elena, come here."
Seeing that her senior had spoken, Elena had no choice but to give up the idea of greeting Charlotte, but she still managed to wave quietly when her senior wasn't looking.
Charlotte nodded slightly and said, "There should be one more. Each of the ten branches should send one person to participate in the trial."
"Are you also representing these branches?"
"No. I'm just here as a witness."
"I represent the Fifth Branch!" Sherry asserted, making her presence known.
"Does a trial need so many people? And they all seem to be... young people?" Li Ang asked.
In his view, Helena, a Sequence 7 witch, shouldn't be making such a big fuss.
Although none of the detectives in the venue seemed to be veterans, and they were mostly young girls, he had just used his ability to see that all the detectives present were at least Sequence 7, and a few had even reached Sequence 6. He was the one who was dragging everyone down.
"They're all here simply to bear witness." Charlotte's gaze swept over the women. "Helena's case involves the Witches' Guild, and the association needs to ensure there are no loopholes in the procedures."
Just then, a woman walked onto the bench.
She looked older, around thirty years old, wearing silver-rimmed glasses and a black robe with silver patterns. Although she had a stern face, she didn't give off an unapproachable vibe; instead, she exuded a reassuring aura.
Or perhaps "full of maternal instincts" would be a more fitting description.
She walked to the center of the bench and sat down, her gaze sweeping across the audience, pausing briefly on Charlotte, and giving a slight nod.
Charlotte nodded slightly.
"Judge Eloi Douglas," Charlotte introduced in a low voice, "is my classmate and has the ability to read minds. It's best not to have any wild thoughts in front of her."
Li Ang nodded to indicate that he understood.
Helena was brought into the dock.
She was wearing a gray prison uniform, her long blonde hair had been cut shorter and was loose around her ears, and she wore a pair of shackles on her wrists that restricted her abilities.
The judge tapped the gavel on the table.
"The Detective Association's Special Trial Chamber is now in session. Defendant, witch Helena, please step forward."
Just as everyone subconsciously sat up straight, the door to the courtroom was pushed open again, and a gray-haired girl hurriedly walked in.
"Isabella, you're late." Judge Eloi shook his head as he looked at her.
The girl named Isabella apologized repeatedly, "I'm sorry, something happened on the way and I was delayed."
Seeing this, Eloi did not continue to blame her, but instead asked Helena to stand in front of the table.
She then opened the folder and began to read out the details of the case, which included, in addition to the theft and violent arrest, the murder of Viscount Cavendish and the attempted crime in which the servants of the entire mansion were nearly turned into pus.
Helena lowered her head and listened quietly without saying a word.
After reading the facts aloud, the presiding judge looked up at Helena and asked, "Defendant, do you admit to the aforementioned facts?"
"I admit it." Helena's voice wasn't loud, but it was clear.
"Are you aware that activating a life alchemy magic circle is strictly prohibited under the Association's laws, regardless of the motive? If proven otherwise, the minimum sentence is one hundred years?"
"clear."
"Are you aware that your magic circle brought the lives of all the British citizens in the mansion to the brink of death, and that they were only saved thanks to the intervention of Holmes's abilities, yet your actions constitute attempted murder?"
"clear."
"Are you aware that your act of stealing the Blue Heart from the Viscount's mansion constitutes theft?"
"clear."
Would you like to provide further details about the case?
