Chapter 2495 - 2559: Time to Close the Net
Chapter 2495 - 2559: Time to Close the Net
"Hahahaha!" A few people laughed, and Su Meng froze for a second before realizing that Li Yifei and others were mocking him. His face flushed, and he clenched his fists. Since becoming the district chief’s secretary, when had he ever encountered such humiliation? Let alone humiliation, who dared to show him a bad face apart from District Chief Yue? Yet now, several policemen and a man he didn’t recognize were joining forces to humiliate him. This was beyond unbearable!"Are you all looking for death?" Su Meng said in a deep voice.
"Alright, you want to go upstairs, right?" Li Yifei stopped laughing and looked at him with amusement.
"I better find Wang Gang, or I’ll have to ask him how he manages his subordinates, behaving like this!" Su Meng said with a somewhat grim expression. It was clear that the recent humiliation had hit a sore spot, pushing Su Meng to the brink of explosion.
"Wang Gang is just upstairs. You can go find him or rat us out, but you’d better be mentally prepared!" Li Yifei ’kindly’ reminded him.
Letting himself go upstairs? Su Meng immediately stepped forward, intending to push Li Yifei out of the way, but his hand failed to push him aside; instead, Su Meng staggered and almost fell on the stairs.
"You!" Su Meng was about to curse, but saw Li Yifei shrug and say, "With such wide stairs, you just had to bump into me? Are you not thinking straight?"
"I won’t waste my breath with you. If you have guts, wait for me!" Su Meng said angrily.
Li Yifei nonchalantly nodded, "Fine, I’ll wait."
Su Meng thudded up the stairs a second time, arriving on the second floor in a few steps. There were many policemen in the corridor, and seeing them, Su Meng instinctively felt a bit apprehensive. Nonetheless, he asked, "Where is Director Wang? I have something to discuss with him."
No one acknowledged him; everyone was just looking at him without responding, making Su Meng feel a peculiar unease. Normally, when accompanying District Chief Yue on visits across various departments, their reaction wasn’t just welcoming; they’d almost clap to the point of breaking. But today, all these people stared at him like dead fish.
"I’m asking you a question. Director Wang, Director Wang, where are you?" Su Meng raised his voice.
His loud voice wasn’t stopped by anyone, so it immediately reached the room through the adjacent door. Wang Gang, who was already at his limit of endurance, recognized Su Meng’s voice immediately. He excitedly opened his eyes and let out a muffled sound, his body seemingly gathering newfound strength as he fiercely struggled. Unfortunately, this was a meeting room with soundproof doors, making it difficult to be heard outside unless shouting directly. Equally excited was Yue Liang, who, as his father’s secretary, had often cleaned up Su Meng’s messes. Naturally, he recognized the voice of District Chief Yue’s secretary. Upon hearing he was there, Yue Liang felt a savior had arrived and started similarly writhing, trying to attract attention from outside.
Unfortunately, even though they made noise, the two were in more pain. Their hands were tied, and the more they struggled, the more uncomfortable their position became.
The others in the room also writhed wildly, hoping to be heard outside.
Stomping, yes, stomping. Yue Liang saw the brother next to him stomping, and also thought of this method, so he began stomping frantically.
Outside, facing a group of policemen, Su Meng instinctively felt nervous. He swallowed hard and seeing that no one responded to him, he walked straight ahead, saying, "Director Wang, it’s me, Su Meng, I have something to discuss with you."
Zhao Tiezhu glanced at Su Meng indifferently, then turned around to admire the scenery outside, although what exactly he was looking at was unknown.
Su Meng looked around the meeting room, unable to find Wang Gang’s shadow or see any scene related to case-handling. What he did see were some policemen dozing off or playing on their phones, or just watching him. Wherever he went, those policemen’s gazes followed, which was too odd. Thinking about it, Su Meng felt a bit uneasy, so he quickly left and returned to the corridor.
"Where is Director Wang? Where’s Wang Gang?" Su Meng asked the people watching him.
Some turned their heads away, ignoring him, while others raised their eyebrows or shrugged, seemingly unwilling to reply.
"Are you deaf or blind? Can’t you hear me talking? I’m asking you, where’s Wang Gang? Damn it, where’s your director?"
Still, no one responded, and just as Su Meng was about to go crazy, he saw Li Yifei coming upstairs. He was about to question him when a loud bang sounded from the room next door, followed by violent struggling noises. Su Meng immediately looked over and coldly asked, "What’s in there?"
No one answered him, so Su Meng immediately walked over and turned the door handle, but unfortunately, the door was locked. He pushed it several times but it didn’t move. Su Meng turned back to the crowd and said, "Quick, open the door for me."
No one paid attention to him. Su Meng was about to kick the door open, when suddenly, a scream came from inside, followed by a wolf-like voice: "Su Meng, Su Meng, it’s me! I’m Wang Gang. Quickly open the door and save me! Wuwuwu, I’m locked in here!"
Hearing this voice, Su Meng’s heart shook. He could recognize Wang Gang’s unpleasant voice, but... what’s going on? A sub-bureau chief locked up by his subordinates? That can’t be right. Su Meng thought he was hearing things and instinctively turned to look at the policemen, only to see their expressions remain calm, with not much change among most of them.
There were more calls from inside the room, and soon Su Meng heard a voice that made his heart cautious — Yue Liang’s voice. Despite his age, his voice didn’t change much, and his voice, sharp due to being held back for so long, shot up three floors.
Wang Gang and Young Master Yue are inside? They’ve been locked up inside?
"Damn it, what the hell are you trying to do?" Su Meng turned around and cursed.
"If I were you, I’d keep my mouth cleaner at this time." Li Yifei spoke, and Su Meng immediately turned to look at Li Yifei, saying in a deep voice, "Just you wait. How dare you illegally detain Young Master Yue and Director Wang? Do you have no regard for the law? Are you trying to rebel? Fine, I’ll let you rebel until you’re satisfied."
"Is that so?" Li Fei chuckled softly, then shook his head and said, "Unfortunately, your words have no strength, they don’t even count as a threat."
"Open the door, open it for me. Young Master Yue, don’t worry, I’m here to rescue you!" Su Meng shouted loudly as he banged on the door.
"Sob, Brother Su, please save us, those policemen aren’t human. They dragged me out of my home, sob.. they cuffed me to the radiator, it hurts so much!" Inside, Yue Liang was also banging on the door, desperate to escape this hellhole.
"Heh!" Li Yifei chuckled softly.
This punishment was nothing compared to the evil things Yue Liang had done; it was merely a minor repercussion.
Su Meng rushed to a policeman, his eyes red with agitation, and shouted, "Damn it, open the door for me! That’s the District Chief Yue’s son! How dare you illegally detain him? I swear I’ll make your life hell."
"Quite a fine dog!" Li Yifei remarked. Su Meng whirled around, glaring at Li Yifei, and through gritted teeth, said, "You’ll regret this, I swear!"
"Your oath isn’t worth a dime, but I’ve decided to open the door for you and crush your hopes." Li Yifei said, "Open the door for Secretary Su, let him in to save them."
Going in to save them? What a joke! Leaving aside whether he can save them, it’s a big question whether he can get out freely once inside.
The door opened, and Su Meng rushed in. Seeing the situation inside, he was completely bewildered. What the hell is going on? They were all cuffed to the radiator, but one radiator had come off, so Wang Gang was able to break free, though his hands were still cuffed behind him, so he could only help tear the tape off others’ mouths.
"Wang Gang, Director Wang, what the hell is going on? Young Master Yue, don’t worry, I’ll inform District Chief Yue immediately to come and rescue you." Su Meng quickly said, reaching for his phone.
"Boss Golden Eagle, should we stop him?"
"No need, it’s time to close the net, let him call for backup!" Li Yifei shook his head.
"Okay!" The policemen suddenly stood upright with confidence because Li Yifei said it’s time to close the net, which meant that the tiger, Yue Buqun, was about to be taken down.
The people in the room didn’t hear this, so Su Meng quickly dialed the phone, his voice tinged with a sob, "District Chief, please come quickly, those policemen have gone mad. They not only arrested Wang Gang, but they also captured Young Master Yue, illegally detaining them. They’re illegally detaining them."
District Chief Yue was momentarily stunned on the other end of the line, then reacted a few seconds later, angrily saying, "What did you say? What illegal detention?"
"District Chief..." Su Meng hadn’t finished when the phone was snatched by Yue Liang, who cried loudly into the phone, "Dad, Dad, come and save me! Those policemen arrested me, they... they even beat me. Dad, save me!"
The cry for help made District Chief Yue realize what was happening. The police had actually taken his son, and it seemed they’d detained Wang Gang as well.
Damn it, how can this be happening? Even if those police are under his new development zone, no one here dares to do such things against him, let alone storm into a house to arrest someone.
"Protect my son, I’ll be there shortly."
"No problem, District Chief Yue, please hurry!" Su Meng urged.
"Whew!" Hanging up the phone, District Chief Yue took a deep breath, his face troubled. In his room hung a painting with the words: ’Maintain composure in the face of major events’, a phrase he often reminded himself of, to think thrice before acting in significant matters.
But after a few minutes, he still couldn’t figure out what was going on. Although there are some people he can’t afford to mess with throughout the city—those at the municipal level and heads of important functional departments might not respect him—in this district, where they often meet, relations were typically cordial and wouldn’t usually collapse. Yet he’d never heard of his own subordinate’s rebellion, arresting the director and his son. No wonder his wife couldn’t find their child.
