Chapter 85 A Girl's Thoughts
Chapter 85 A Girl's Thoughts
"I just want to ask, can I really handle things over there well?"
Ni Youlin lowered her head, appearing very insecure.
When Li Shiwei was there, she didn't hesitate at all when offered a job. She even took the initiative to observe and work inside, doing everything with great patience, whether it was physically demanding tasks or cleaning the cattery.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Li Shiwei left, she instantly reverted to her original state, revealing that she actually had no confidence at all.
But Chen Rang was not surprised.
After all, if Ni Youlin were that decisive, she wouldn't have become the way she is now. The reason she didn't show vulnerability in front of Li Shiwei is probably because their relationship hadn't reached a level of complete trust.
"Don't worry! Raising a cat isn't difficult. As long as you pay attention to hygiene and feed and water it carefully and frequently, there generally won't be any problems. Cats are very resilient creatures."
Chen Rang put Ni Youlin inside and gave her a carton of milk.
Seeing that the man still looked uneasy, he smiled and waved his hand, saying, "There's a saying that cats have nine lives, right? Actually, as long as you don't deliberately cause them trouble, they can take care of themselves. Just change their water frequently and don't let them starve to death, and there's nothing difficult about it. Oh, and by the way, don't put too much pressure on yourself. These cats essentially still belong to that suspect named Wang Deliang; you're just helping him take care of them."
Upon hearing this, Ni Youlin secretly revealed a look of resentment.
"Does this woman think all those cats belong to her? Hah... Given her current situation, does she even have the money to keep so many cats?"
Chen Rang muttered annoyedly to himself.
There wasn't much to talk about between the two after that. Ni Youlin sat quietly on the sofa, sipping her milk. Her large T-shirt was a bit of an eyesore, and it made Chen Rang feel a little guilty.
This girl's figure is actually quite average, nothing compared to Li Shiwei. Her main problem is her thinness, the kind that's heartbreakingly thin. Compared to Li Shiwei's sunny and cheerful personality, she's like a delicate, fragile little sprout, evoking pity.
Chen Rang took out his phone and sent a message to Li Shiwei, learning that she was already on her way. This guy had made a special trip back to change his clothes and pick up some clothes for Ni Youlin, rushing all the way without feeling tired at all.
He gestured for her to slow down, then turned around, went downstairs, brought up the hairdryer, and handed it to Ni Youlin.
This guy just stood there with his head all wet, not even worried about getting a headache from the wind.
Ni Youlin didn't go to the third floor; she went straight to the second-floor bathroom to dry her hair. Chen Rang took the opportunity to go downstairs to work. After cleaning himself up, he could finally go into the cattery to resolve the conflict between the Border Collie and the other cats.
Without any hesitation, he pulled the little rascals off the dogs and threw them far away, then watched as the poor Border Collie hurriedly scrambled into its cage. It even tried to bite the cage door to close it, but the Elizabethan collar around its neck stopped it.
The poor Border Collie could only paw at the cage door and stare at Chen Rang with wide eyes, signaling him to close the cage properly and not let the cat open it again.
"I know!"
Chen Rang turned around and glared at Dou Dou.
He hadn't expected that DouDou could actually open the cage lock. Although it was indeed just a small gadget with a latch mechanism, the fact that he could accurately find the switch point and direction was enough to prove that DouDou was exceptionally talented.
As for whether it was actually the one who did it?
Chen Rang was willing to bet that no other cat could be so arrogant.
He fastened the lock on the dog cage again, this time even inserting the bolt. Then, looking at the scattered little rascals, he sighed and miserably began to feed them.
"Let me do it."
After drying her hair, Ni Youlin came downstairs and took over the task of feeding the cats from Chen Rang.
Chen Rang didn't stand on ceremony. After handing over the work to her, he turned and went inside.
He first checked the recovery of the blue and white cat's eyes, then went to the delivery room to examine the mother silver shaded cat and listened to the fetal heartbeat with a stethoscope. After confirming that there were no abnormal sounds, he casually placed his hand on the mother silver shaded cat's belly, feeling the slight movements of the little one inside her as they were transmitted to his palm. It was just a simple little touch, yet it gave him a strangely comforting and warm feeling.
This is the power of life, and the wonderful sublimation brought about by reproduction and childbirth.
"Awoo~"
Unfortunately, the female silver shaded cat wasn't very cooperative; she didn't allow Chen Rang to touch her for long before turning her back to him. This was only because she trusted Chen Rang enough; otherwise, a typical female cat would have already started biting him by now.
Chen Rang changed to rubbing the head of the silver-colored cat. This action made the cat feel comfortable, and it tilted its head back and snuggled up to Chen Rang, slowly stroking it in his palm.
The person and the cat get along very well.
When Ni Youlin brought Li Shiwei in, this was the heartwarming scene she saw at the door.
Li Shiwei was about to urge Chen Rang to leave, but this glance made her words catch in her throat. She quietly watched Chen Rang interact with the mother cat, and seeing the undisguised smile on Chen Rang's face, her heart softened instantly.
Previously, I was somewhat dissatisfied with the relationship between Chen Rang and Ni Youlin, but now I don't want to talk about it anymore and there's no need to ask.
The two women patiently waited for Chen Rang and the female cat to finish their interaction, asking about the mother cat's condition and when she would give birth, before leisurely walking towards the night market stall not far away. It was an outdoor barbecue stall set up directly at the entrance of an alleyway, consisting of two tricycles and a few small tables placed on the sidewalk. The stall was run by an elderly couple who lived nearby and had been doing business there for nearly ten years; their barbecue was delicious and inexpensive.
Chen Rang still remembers that when he was in high school, he would often come here after evening self-study and pool his money with Li Shiwei to buy some roasted bean curd or roasted sausage.
Sometimes, when we had a little extra money, we'd order a bowl of fried stinky tofu, wrapped with spicy cabbage and diced radish, and eat it all up with Li Shiwei, one piece at a time.
In most cases, Chen Rang pays the bill, since it's easy for his family, who are self-employed, to "steal" money from their drawers.
"I remember one time you stole money from home to buy a four-wheel drive car; Uncle Chen found out and almost beat you to death with a belt. Hehe... I was so scared that I didn't dare to intervene. Of course, this had nothing to do with me, and it wasn't my place to intervene."
Li Shiwei recounted Chen Rang's embarrassing past stories with a grin, while glancing at Ni Youlin out of the corner of her eye.
"Yeah! I found out later that it's okay to use money to buy food to fill your stomach, but not to buy toys. Speaking of which, I'm still wondering about one thing: how did my dad find out I bought a four-wheel drive car? Didn't he tell you to hide it at home?"
Looking back, Chen Rang felt quite emotional. His relationship with Li Shiwei had been very good since junior high and high school, and he could easily recall many stories from the past.
"Who knows!"
Li Shiwei feigned ignorance rather clumsily, refusing to admit that it was her father who discovered the family's four-wheel drive vehicle back then, and subsequently tipped off Uncle Chen.
Chen Rang did not hesitate to blame Li Shiwei for the incident.
His accusations angered Li Shiwei, who rushed over, grabbed his finger, and snapped it hard. Chen Rang screamed and begged for mercy. Ni Youlin, standing nearby, reached out and then let go, wanting to persuade him but not daring to, her face showing both heartache and anxiety.
"snort!"
Li Shiwei acted as if she were asserting her dominance, only releasing Chen Rang when he obediently begged for mercy.
The three of them, playfully bickering, made their way to the barbecue area.
"Hey! You must be Li Shiwei, you've grown so much! It's been so long since you've eaten here, I almost didn't recognize you. And this is... Xiao Chen Rang? When did you come back? Weren't you studying at university in Chu City? Oh, you're on summer vacation!"
The old man at the barbecue stall actually recognized Chen Rang. Or rather, he recognized Li Shiwei first, and then, following the figure he remembered who often came with Li Shiwei, he finally recalled Chen Rang's name.
This made Li Shiwei unable to suppress a smile.
"Grandpa, we live so close by, how could you have almost forgotten about me?"
Chen Rang complained to the old man in an annoyed tone.
Seeing that the old man just smiled and didn't reply, he naturally started ordering. Just like four years ago, he ordered the same pork tenderloin, chicken feet, grilled buns, grilled bean curd sheets, and a side of fried stinky tofu. That fulfilled his personal needs.
He also ordered Li Shiwei some of the roasted cabbage and savory fried potato strips that she used to eat, as well as a sausage, before turning his attention to Ni Youlin.
