Chapter 83 Ni Youlin's New Job

Chapter 83 Ni Youlin's New Job

Wang Deliang naturally denied Chen Rang's speculation without hesitation.

However, he couldn't answer any of the questions about his relationship with the cat cafe, or why the cats from the cat cafe ended up at his place.

All he could do was deny it outright, repeatedly emphasizing that the police had no evidence to prove that the cats he had were the same as the ones in the photos, that all cats look pretty much the same, and that while it was wrong of him to breed branded cats without permission, the police could not frame him for that, etc.

Sun Zhengdong said he'd heard enough of this. Almost every criminal suspect makes this excuse when caught. Even with overwhelming evidence, they stubbornly refuse to admit it.

So even though there is currently insufficient evidence, as long as Wang Deliang cannot explain the origin of these "similar" cats, he cannot be cleared of suspicion.

In the end, Sun Zhengdong instructed his colleagues to take Wang Deliang away.

As they prepared to return home, a new problem arose. Wang Deliang stubbornly insisted that no one could look after the place, so what would happen to the hundreds of cats of all sizes in the backyard?

If no one is hired to specifically care for them, given the environment here and the physical condition of these cats, it's only a matter of time before they all die.

Wang Deliang stated that he couldn't find anyone to care for the cats, so the police arrested him, which he considered a wanton destruction of his personal property. If the cats die, the police will not only be responsible for compensation but also bear all subsequent liabilities.

"Chen Rang..."

Helpless, Sun Zhengdong could only look at Chen Rang.

"Hey, I have my own job too! Feeding and watering so many cats every day is fine, but taking good care of them takes so much time!"

Chen Rang tried to refuse.

Even if he's soft-hearted, he can't be completely selfless. Taking care of these cats isn't his responsibility, so how could he possibly abandon his proper job for them?

"I will try my best to apply for some subsidies for you..."

Sun Zhengdong could only make this request.

Chen asked out of curiosity and learned that the subsidy the police station paid for hiring people to help with the work was actually quite substantial. This subsidy was roughly equivalent to the daily wage of a worker in Sarawak, and when converted to a monthly salary, it would be higher than that of most office workers.

It's precisely because of the unstable hours that, otherwise, simply doing these temporary jobs for the police would actually bring in a decent monthly income.

"I'm still not doing it!"

Chen Rang resisted the temptation and shook his head without hesitation.

"So! You guys were investigating the case behind my back, huh? Brother Sun, I was involved in this case too. You found a clue and didn't even bother to tell me? And Chen Rang, you just wait!"

Li Shiwei suddenly appeared at the entrance of the cat shelter.

As she spoke, she stormed in, glaring angrily at Chen Rang and Sun Zhengdong. Behind her, Ni Youlin, wearing a new dress that Chen Rang had never seen her wear before, looked timid yet with a hint of joy on her face.

"Should we find someone to take care of this place?"

Upon learning what Sun Zhengdong was currently troubling, Li Shiwei hesitated for a moment. Under the questioning gazes of the two men, she led Ni Youlin out, returning after a while.

Pointing at the nervous Ni Youlin, Li Shiwei said generously, "Leave this matter to my sister! She's having some financial difficulties right now, so let's not waste this opportunity on an outsider."

"Are you sure you can handle it?"

Chen Rang looked at Ni Youlin. He saw Li Shiwei pull Ni Youlin away and immediately guessed what she was thinking.

"Xiao Wei, don't joke with me. A young girl with delicate skin, is she the kind of person who can do this kind of dirty work? I'm telling you, this is no laughing matter. Even if we don't pay for it, we can't take this lightly."

Sun Zhengdong was equally skeptical. He didn't believe that just any young man could endure hardship and do such a dirty job well.

"What did you say?"

Li Shiwei didn't offer any explanation, but instead looked at Ni Youlin, who had a timid expression.

"I……"

Ni Youlin looked at the shack-like courtyard, then back at the almost deserted area outside, her fear almost undisguised.

But she was also very clear about one thing: she was currently completely penniless. There was still a month left of summer vacation. Was she going to keep mooching off Chen Rang or Li Shiwei? She could mooch off them during the summer, but what about tuition and living expenses when school started?

She can't rely on others forever like a parasitic vine; sooner or later she'll have to learn to be independent and live a strong life on her own.

Now her new friend Li Shiwei has given her a chance to support herself, and to take care of so many of her favorite cats; although there may be dangers involved, it doesn't seem so hard to accept.

Faced with the gazes of everyone, Ni Youlin clenched her fists and nodded heavily.

"Why……"

Sun Zhengdong let out a long sigh.

He was reluctant to entrust the task to a young, unfamiliar woman; it seemed unreliable. But Li Shiwei insisted on doing it, so he couldn't refuse.

And no matter what, feeding cats isn't actually that difficult; it doesn't require much skill. It's just a bit dirty, a bit hard work, a bit remote, and requires some patience, that's all.

Since the girl agrees, let's give it a try.

"Chen Rang, you two know each other, right? If you have some free time, come over and help out, give this girl a hand. And Li Shiwei, you're off work now, so I'm not going to bother with you! But since you're going to vouch for this, remember to go to the office to sign the papers tomorrow."

Sun Zhengdong ignored the mess and rushed back to the police station to interrogate Wang Deliang before driving away.

Soon, only Chen Rang, Li Shiwei, and Ni Youlin remained in this deserted courtyard.

Chen Rang planned to go back, but seeing Ni Youlin looking around blankly, unsure of where to start, he felt a bit of a headache.

Besides, while keeping and feeding cats here is fine, he was a little worried about letting Ni Youlin stay here alone late at night. Moreover, this place isn't exactly close to the clinic, making it a hassle for Ni Youlin to come and go every day.

"You're really causing me trouble!"

Chen Rang complained to Li Shiwei, "Why do you have to do this? You need to find Ni Youlin a job that can earn money."

"Didn't you bring this up?"

Li Shiwei bared her teeth and glared angrily at Chen Rang.

If it weren't for this bastard dragging Ni Youlin into this mess, why would she bother with all this trouble? Although after getting to know Ni Youlin over this period of time, she had determined that Ni Youlin was a good girl worth befriending; but that didn't mean she could forgive Chen Rang for acting on his own initiative.

"You wait, this isn't over between us yet!"

Li Shiwei leaned closer and whispered a threat.

Seeing Ni Youlin tiptoeing out of the shack, she quickly went up to her and said, "Xiaolin, how are you feeling? If you're having any trouble, you must tell me. It's quite easy to find work in our area; you don't necessarily have to suffer here."

"I...I'm willing to stay here."

Ni Youlin quickly responded, fearing that Li Shiwei would take her away.

She wandered around inside and suddenly realized that this place didn't require her to interact with anyone, and her usual work was just taking care of these adorable cats—it couldn't be more perfect.

As for the issue of the poor environment here... after several days of training at Chen Rang's clinic, she now understands what a qualified cattery should look like and what conditions are necessary. In other words, as long as it's kept clean, the environment is actually acceptable.

"Call me if anything comes up! Hmm... never mind, I'll stay here and help you out. Let's do a quick clean-up, and we can finish the rest tomorrow during the day!"

Li Shiwei stopped Ni Youlin from acting impulsively.

Seeing Chen Rang's reluctant expression, she walked over and kicked him in the shin, signaling him, as the only man there, to hurry up and do some heavy work.

"Did I just ask for trouble?"

Chen Rang rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. He hadn't expected things to escalate to this point. His main concern was whether Ni Youlin was truly capable of handling the daily work of such a large cat breeding base. She might not even be able to carry a single bag of cat food.

"Isn't there still you?"

Li Shiwei patted Chen Rang on the shoulder with a grin, indicating that it was time for him to step up. It wasn't just about repackaging the cat food; he was also responsible for all the chores, from shoveling away the mud to cleaning up the trash.

"Just kill me already!"

Chen Rang rolled his eyes in annoyance.

Even so, he still picked up the iron shovel in the corner and casually cleared away the trash around him that might pose a danger.
