Chapter 67 The Feeling of Home
Chapter 67 The Feeling of Home
"Grandma, please remember not to let your dog do any strenuous exercise, or it could cause a serious problem."
As the old man led his dog away, Chen Rang couldn't help but chase after him to give him a few more words of advice.
He worried that the old man's nonchalant attitude might lead to an accident. After all, even if the dog seems docile and cute now, no one can predict what it might do once it grows up and experiences pain.
This isn't Chen Rang cursing anything; rather, as a professional, he considers all aspects of pet care more than the pet owner.
Often, people tend to judge pets' behavior patterns based on their own assumptions. However, in most cases, pets are far more foolish than people imagine; those particularly eye-catching reports or short videos are ultimately just a minority.
Therefore, as a pet owner, it's best to be more cautious when dealing with your pets, especially new members.
"Oh, I know! I only let my grandson hold his hand for a while when he comes over; he's usually locked up at home. What could possibly happen?"
The old man waved his hand impatiently, tugged hard on the leash to make the little white dog walk faster, and then walked away with his hands behind his back.
The adorable little white dog stumbled along behind the old man. It seemed to be in a good mood, walking briskly and looking around with great curiosity about everything.
However, Chen Rang could only be somewhat pessimistic about whether it would be happy in its new home.
Simply because... it is definitely a medium-sized dog.
Medium-sized dogs require significantly more exercise, as well as more complex diets and grooming than small and dwarf dogs. They can even be more troublesome than large dogs, because some large breeds are designed for a rugged appearance and don't require frequent grooming or cleaning.
So unless you have a particularly free family, most people shouldn't impulsively get a medium-sized dog just because it looks beautiful and imposing.
"Can't we keep them?"
Ni Youlin walked over from behind and stood at the doorway, looking outside with Chen Rang. She had also been somewhat tempted by that little white dog earlier, and was thinking about raising a few herself sometime, so that the house would be more lively with both cats and dogs.
"Unless you hire a nanny to take care of them every day."
Chen Rang glanced at Ni Youlin and grumbled irritably. Seeing that she actually slowly looked up at him, he snapped, "I'm not your nanny! Don't try anything with me!"
Ni Youlin pouted, her scheme exposed, and turned away from Chen Rang, ignoring him, and continued sweeping the floor.
She didn't seem to see it as helping with chores, but rather as a fun way to pass the time. Especially when it came to those hard-to-clean corners, she tackled them patiently and intently, with an unexpectedly serious attitude.
Chen Rang stated that he absolutely does not possess such meticulous patience.
His requirements for the clinic's environment prioritize disinfection and sterilization over solid dust. Especially for external environments that don't require too much attention, such as cat hair or debris stuck in crevices, cleaning once a month is sufficient.
But... since Ni Youlin is willing to help, why should he refuse?
Anyway, this girl has nothing to do during summer vacation, so it's good for her to do some work and get some exercise. Looking at how frail she is, if she doesn't exercise regularly, a strong wind might blow her away one day.
Thinking it over, Chen accepted Ni Youlin's service with a clear conscience and indicated that she should sweep the service counter and wipe the cat house inside and out when she had time.
"good!"
Ni Youlin didn't refuse at all, and even when Chen Rang gave her orders, she was quite excited, as if she had finally found something she could do.
Time passed slowly, and acquaintances passing by the shop soon noticed that a pretty young woman had joined Chen Rang's clinic, diligently helping out. Meanwhile, Chen Rang, the owner, sat behind the counter, casually playing with the cat, looking like a spoiled landlord.
Most importantly, that girl is really well-behaved!
Chen let that kid point and criticize, saying this and that wasn't clean enough, but the girl didn't get angry at all. Whatever that kid asked her to do, she did obediently, which was truly enviable.
"Xiao Rang, you've hired a nurse?"
"Chen Rang, aren't you going to introduce your girlfriend?"
"Oh my! What a beautiful girl, working so hard in this heat. What's your name? Do you have a boyfriend?"
The various greetings were driving Chen Rang crazy.
Ni Youlin was already extremely introverted, and now she was being harassed even more by the middle-aged woman who had approached her. The woman looked like she was about to devour her, which frightened Ni Youlin so much that she didn't dare to say a word and could only turn to Chen Rang for help.
Chen Rang stood up, looking annoyed.
"Aunt Liu! Your son is only in high school. Isn't it a bit too early to be thinking about those things? If you really care, don't bother him. Let him focus on his studies; getting into a good university is much better than having you plan his future."
"What are you saying! I'm just asking what this has to do with my son! You little brat, you're protecting your own, aren't you?"
Aunt Liu glared at Chen Rang awkwardly, then turned and left with her vegetable basket.
Chen Rang turned to look at Ni Youlin and sighed, "In the future, just ignore people you don't want to talk to. Don't be afraid of offending people, and there's no need to be overly polite. You just tend to overthink things, which makes you seem easy to bully."
Ni Youlin nodded repeatedly, like a chick pecking at rice.
To be honest, in that short time, she was quite frightened. Even though she knew those people meant her no harm, and were just being hospitable, she still felt overwhelmed.
Looking around, Ni Youlin saw that both rooms had been cleaned. After hesitating for a moment, she mustered her courage, picked up a broom and dustpan, and headed inside.
"No need to go inside, you should rest."
Chen Rang quickly stopped her.
After all, you can't really treat Ni Youlin like a laborer; she didn't come here to work. It's one thing to keep her occupied to prevent her from getting bored, but are you really going to let her keep doing this forever?
"what?"
Ni Youlin looked completely bewildered.
When you let her rest, she doesn't know what to do next.
Before, she would stay behind every day cautiously to watch the cats, not daring to move an inch. But is watching cats really that interesting? Is watching them for hours really that captivating? To be honest, she just had nothing else to do.
Having not been familiar with Chen Rang before, Ni Youlin's willingness to stay was already at its limit.
Now that she was finally "friends" with Chen Rang, Ni Youlin's courage grew somewhat.
Even so, she still didn't know what she could do or what she should do. No one had ever taught her these things; she only knew that if she did nothing, she wouldn't be met with disgust, criticism, or slander behind her back.
Seeing Ni Youlin's helpless expression, Chen Rang sighed again, feeling that it was even more troublesome than taking care of a child.
Do you play games?
"game?"
Ni Youlin was stunned for a moment.
"Handheld game. When you were playing with the cats at that cat cafe, you must have seen people playing games in the outer room, right? I have a handheld game console here, but there's no TV on the first floor. You can make do with it?"
Chen Rang took the fully charged Switch out of the counter.
Ni Youlin took it curiously.
Looking at the handheld screen and then at the buttons on the controllers on both sides, she was at a loss for what to do.
Because she had never played anything like that before, and hadn't even dared to watch others play it up close. Of course, she knew there were arcade games in the outer area of the cat cafe, but usually the seats were occupied by boys or couples, so how could she dare to go up there?
So even though Chen Rang kindly lent her the game console to pass the time, she didn't know what she should do.
"Hey! I'll teach you."
Chen Rang shook his head and walked out of the counter, gesturing for Ni Youlin to sit on the sofa. He took the handheld console, played his favorite Pokémon game, and then returned the machine to Ni Youlin. He sat down next to her and taught her how to control the character and how to initiate Pokémon battles.
The adorable art style and cute animals instantly captivated Ni Youlin. The countless dazzling Pokémon made her eyes light up, and she quickly became engrossed in the game.
From the initial chaotic operation to the point where he couldn't even pay attention to Chen Rang, it only took less than ten minutes in total.
The girl's eyes were fixed on the game screen; there was nothing else in them.
Chen Rang stood up, satisfied.
"I am such a sinful person! I have dragged another innocent girl into the abyss of the game."
He shook his head with a sigh and went back behind the counter to continue scrolling through his phone.
Just a short while later, Li Shiwei suddenly sent a message saying that she would come to the clinic to talk to him at 1 p.m.
