Chapter 44 A Lively Morning

Chapter 44 A Lively Morning

The female silver shaded cat lost its tail, the baby Munchkin was lame, and the American Shorthair tabby lost half a tooth.

These three little guys are arguably the biggest victims of the cat cafe incident.

Of course, this excludes the case of the dead cat.

As for Chen Rang, since taking over these six little guys, he has already spent a lot of money these past few days. The ever-increasing costs of medicine and feeding, coupled with the drain on his energy and time, have left him completely exhausted from caring for these cats.

What's worse, this worry and stress seems to have no end in sight. Sometimes he doesn't want to keep these guys around anymore, but he just can't find anyone to take them over.

He could have put up an "Adopt a GG" sign on the door, but after hesitating for a while, Chen Rang decided to wait until they were all cured before doing so.

At least... until the mother's silver gradient baby is born safely.

"Are you home yet?"

A text message suddenly popped up on my phone from an unfamiliar number.

Judging from the tone, Chen Rang guessed it was Ni Youlin. This girl only dared to send a text message more than two hours later; her personality was truly exaggeratedly introverted.

She didn't even dare to sign her name.

"Who are you?"

Chen replied honestly, then suddenly realized that he hadn't used SMS to communicate with anyone in a long time. His SMS inbox was filled with nothing but various "GG"s, verification codes, and package tracking information; there was no other valuable information.

"I am Ni Youlin."

The other party replied quickly, honestly and without a single unnecessary word. After that, there was no follow-up message for a while, as if they had run out of things to say.

Chen Rang laughed.

He stopped teasing her and instead replied honestly, word by word, that he had arrived home safely and was now getting ready for bed. He also told her to get some rest and not just stand there in a daze.

"it is good."

The other party sent another word.

Chen Rang didn't say anything more, since there wasn't much to say.

She may be introverted and lack assertiveness, but her ability to get into university doesn't mean she's mentally challenged. Ultimately, it's her own business, and she'll have to face and overcome any troubles she encounters.

Moreover, the relationship between the two is not yet at a point where Chen Rang can deeply intervene.

So Chen Song put away his phone, checked the situation on the first floor, and then shooed the guys up to the second floor to prepare for bed.

He had to emphasize one point: it was absolutely not that he insisted on bringing these little rascals up with him! He had barely opened the door when DouDou rushed out first. With him leading the way, the other cats followed suit, and he couldn't stop them at all.

After all, he only has two hands, right? With six cats running around everywhere, how could he possibly catch them all?

Muttering curses, Chen Rang slammed the door shut and coldly watched as the six cats each took their favorite spots. The lame little cat was causing a ruckus everywhere, almost bumping into Chen Rang's leg; the Ragdoll cat and the American Shorthair tabby cat occupied the sofa, and the big blue cat went to the balcony; as for Grandpa Silver, he happily followed Dou Dou into the bedroom.

Chen picked up the little Munchkin dog that had sneaked to the kitchen door and was scratching at the glass door, and tossed it far away onto the sofa. Worried it might get hurt, he propped it up slightly, but the little rascal bounced up like a spring the moment it landed and ran off to the balcony.

The next second, the big blue cat pounced and flipped it over, and the two cats started frolicking together.

When Chen Rang came out of the bathroom after brushing his teeth, Little Mankikang was already driving his sports car in the living room again. It was a real low-slung sports car, screeching against the floor, making Chen Rang's eyes twitch.

Out of sight, out of mind, he turned and went to the bedroom, shooing Dou Dou and Grandpa Yin, who had squeezed into the gap in the bedside table, out, then closed the door and went to sleep.

The night was anything but peaceful.

Chen Rang first heard the sound of the door being pried open repeatedly, and then he vaguely dreamed that Ni Youlin was like a female ghost with her head down and hands hanging down, her long hair covering her face, and she was sobbing.

The woman slowly floated towards him from the darkness while crying, which terrified him.

He turned to run away, but found that he couldn't move his body at all.

He knew perfectly well that this was a dream, and he desperately tried to wake up, but he couldn't escape the image of the female ghost getting closer and closer. He watched helplessly as the strange crying grew louder and louder, feeling his whole body stiffen.

It wasn't until the female ghost slowly approached and lowered her head to press against his chest that he felt a weight and warmth, and slowly regained consciousness.

"roll!"

Chen Rang impatiently shoved Dou Dou off him.

He had no idea how the guy got in, and he was also curious which bastard had taught it how to open the door. And why are all the door handles horizontal? If they were vertical, how would it possibly pry them open?!

He got up and looked around, and unsurprisingly, he was surrounded by cats. Several cats were lying on the blankets, pressing them down tightly, no wonder he couldn't move.

He glared at these guys, but didn't bother to say anything more.

Chen Rang always had a feeling that sooner or later he would get used to this life of being surrounded by cats and not being able to sleep peacefully every night.

"But I don't want to wear glasses with dark circles under my eyes!"

Glancing at the shameless eunuch Yin, whose prominent dark circles seemed to mock him, he noticed the man's large eyes. At least Yin's eyes weren't unusual, but what about himself…

"It absolutely cannot turn out like that!"

Chen Rang shook his head vigorously.

I got up to brush my teeth, wash my face, and go to the toilet. I took out my phone and found several text messages. They were all from Ni Youlin, asking questions like, "Are you asleep?", "Did I disturb you?", and "I'm sorry"—all nonsense.

Looking at the timestamps, the first message was sent at 3 AM, the second was sent five minutes later, and the third was sent half an hour later…

You can tell how conflicted she is just by looking at the time intervals.

Chen Rang couldn't help but chuckle.

He was about to reply to Ni Youlin's message, but before he could type more than a few words, he heard a rattling sound coming from the glass door in front of him. Several short, dark figures were lurking there, taking turns scratching at the door, then nimbly jumping away and meowing.

The glass door made a series of noises, as if a clumsy musician were providing accompaniment to a cat's meows.

Chen Rang was speechless.

Before, when we only had DouDou as our cat, he would harass us every time we went to the toilet, as if we were afraid he would fall into the sewer.

Now there were more cats, from one to six, making the situation even more chaotic. The noises on the glass door never stopped, sometimes soft, sometimes loud, and quite rhythmic. But for the people inside, it was a nightmare!

"I can't even have a proper toilet break!"

Chen Rang muttered something to himself, then obediently pulled up his pants and came out.

I glared at the little rascals squatting by the door, scaring them into scattering in all directions. But after a while, they all came back around meowing, seemingly begging for something delicious.

"Shut up, there's only cat food in the house!"

Chen Rang irritably chased them away, changed his clothes, went under the coffee table to take out a lint roller, and rolled it all over his body before turning around and going downstairs.

One by one, the cats hurriedly followed, jostling and scrambling to get into the stairwell.

Unable to bear watching the little Munchkin stumble and fall, its head bumping against the stair ledge with every step, Chen let out a pick it up. This act, however, stirred up a hornet's nest; the other cats protested, demanding he treat them all the same.

"Go by yourself!"

Chen Rang, his face stern, quickly walked a few steps downstairs, put the little Mankikang down, and resolutely ignored the guys' whining.

He turned around and went to the roadside to open for business, but was harassed by a few rascals who circled around his feet, preventing him from moving forward. Even though they were already on the first floor, these guys were completely unreasonable and insisted on being hugged before they were satisfied.

"Hey! Little Chen, it's really lively here so early in the morning!"

An elderly woman from the neighborhood passed by, watching Chen Rang's antics with amusement.

"How about I give you two to try?"

Chen Rang extended the invitation without hesitation.

He wished he could set up a bamboo frame right now, tie the legs of the six cats to ropes, hang them up, and sell them all like dried chickens.

Unfortunately, the woman shook her head and declined the offer.

She said she was too old to enjoy such things, and that the cats could stay here and be taken care of by Chen Rang.

Not long after arriving at the market, she saw her grandson walking over with his phone in hand, not even looking up. He immediately started talking about how his classmate had a really cute little dog, and he wanted to get one too so he could show it off to his best friend.

"How about a cat?"

The woman immediately thought of Chen Rang's joke from earlier.

"No! I want a dog! I want a husky, or a big wolfhound! Waaaaah... a police dog!"

The little brat shook his head firmly; his demands were quite high.

The old lady was driven crazy by his noise, but it wasn't easy for her grandson to come back for a visit.

So even though she knew that buying the dog would still require her and her parents to take care of it every day, she still quickly put down her work at the stall and took her grandson outside.
