Chapter 17 The Lovely Mankik
Chapter 17 The Lovely Mankik
"Awoo~"
DouDou glared fiercely at Chen Rang.
It looked like it was gritting its teeth, and its sharp fangs seemed to be gleaming.
Having been trapped in the carrier for over a day, the little guy was feeling aggrieved and dissatisfied, and his patience was about to reach its limit.
"Stay here for one more day!"
However, no matter how aggrieved Dou Dou was, Chen Rang had no intention of compromising.
He gave DouDou a brief explanation before turning his attention to the dwarf cat.
After observing it for a day, Chen Rang judged that the little guy's physical condition was relatively good. So he didn't waste any more time and quickly took advantage of the fact that the little guy was well-fed and watered and was currently behaving himself to properly treat the wound on its hind leg.
It's important to understand that for all Munchkin cats, their disproportionate physique and short, even unevenly sized, legs severely restrict their mobility and threaten their safety.
Other cats can easily jump and leap around, whether it's climbing trees, jumping over tables, scaling walls, climbing lamps, or even bungee jumping, it's all effortless for them.
However, these seemingly simple behaviors are all dangerous for Munchkin cats.
Because even though they run quite fast, their legs are simply too short. No matter how energetic they are, their jumping ability is far inferior to that of long-legged cats.
Unfortunately, these silly creatures are often very active and like to run around, which often leads them to overlook the threat posed by various height differences, blindly jumping up and down, resulting in sprains or even fractures.
Another point is that, in China, it is very difficult to buy purebred or scientifically bred reliable cats of all Munchkin and Minute cat breeds at ordinary prices.
In China, or even in the vast majority of the world, there are varying degrees of unscientific breeding practices among Mankikang.
To make Munchkin cats, whose original facial features are not very attractive, easier to sell, many catteries choose to crossbreed with Ragdolls or American Shorthairs to give their offspring rounder faces and more colorful round eyes.
While this breeding method has produced an excellent breed called Minuto, it has also produced many more unhealthy or even deformed varieties such as dwarf Ragdolls, dwarf American Shorthairs, and dwarf Folded Ears.
Such a short-legged cat undoubtedly has a physical defect.
For example, the Munchkin cat in front of Chen Rang, although it has a distinct Munchkin appearance, also has a few Garfield characteristics.
In other words, this little guy is also one of the results of humans haphazardly piecing together cat genes for breeding. Although it has enough healthy Munchkin dominant genes to support it, no one can say for sure whether it has any recessive genetic defects.
Chen Rang is a veterinarian, not a zoologist, and he can't solve the genetic problems of cats.
All he could do with this Munchkin cat was take preventative measures. If the Munchkin did have skeletal or heart problems, as long as it was generally healthy, it would at least be better able to cope with those issues.
"Little one, you must live up to expectations and stay healthy."
Chen Rang gently patted the Munchkin cat's head.
"Meow?"
The cat's face wasn't particularly cute; its main charm lay in its four short legs. Upon hearing the sound, the Munchkin cat tilted its head, looked at Chen Rang, and made a sound that was both affectionate and puzzled.
"whispering sound!"
Chen Rang pursed his lips.
He had to admit that the Munchkin cat, as a newly emerging and special breed, was not without reason in its popularity and widespread breeding.
They say that good things come in small packages, and Munchkin cats are a perfect example of how all the cuteness of cats can be condensed into one.
They are indeed very cute.
As Chen Rang worked, the fur on the cat's hind legs was shaved, medicine was applied, and bandages were wrapped around it, making the Munchkin cat feel somewhat uncomfortable.
After Chen Rang released it, it wandered around the small metal workbench, constantly shaking its hind legs. Several times it turned around to lick or bite the things that were in its way, but was blocked by Elizabeth's collar and could not succeed.
After a few attempts, the little guy gave up.
Ignoring the discomfort in its legs, it began to enthusiastically circle the control panel, while also looking around the clinic's interior.
This guy is pretty brave; he's not afraid of unfamiliar environments, but he's always eager to jump off the table.
"Don't run around like that, you idiot!"
Chen Rang reacted quickly, catching its body and placing it back onto the control panel after it flew through the air.
Meow~
The Munchkin cat meowed softly, not angry at all, but just stared at the cat with wide eyes, trying to look cute and innocent.
Chen Rang glared at it irritably.
He used his hands instead of a comb, spreading his fingers and rubbing them a couple of times on the back and sides of the Munchkin, then stroking it down its streamlined body to the tip of its tail, quickly plucking off a lot of cat hair.
When its rear end was patted, the guy seemed to enjoy it, sticking its rear end out and even its voice became a little more melodious.
Chen Rang gently patted it twice more and withdrew his hand, but it stubbornly moved closer, wanting to continue enjoying the pats. This time, Chen Rang used three more points of force, making a "bang bang" sound, which made it wince in pain but also satisfied and quickly move away.
"Perverted cat!"
Chen Rang couldn't help but complain.
After a one-hour lunch break, Chen served another customer who wanted to buy flea and tick medication. He reminded the young man to make sure to apply the medication to the back of the cat's neck where it couldn't lick it, and to remember to wash his hands afterward. Chen then went to work next door.
To be honest, the smell in the cat cafe was much better after cleaning up the feces and various garbage.
The rest of the things we do or don't do won't really matter. Besides, we also have to consider the ownership of the items inside; we can't just dispose of them or throw them away without permission, lest the cat cafe owner comes back and tries to take advantage of us.
So what Chen Rang had to do next was simply to arrange the furniture and wipe it down, and deal with anything that might cause danger.
During this time, he actually found something good in a corner gap against the wall of the cat cafe bar.
A Switch that has been abandoned.
I took it out and wiped it clean, and found it was still powered on. Although the battery was only a little over ten percent, it meant it was still usable. A quick check revealed seven or eight games on it, but it couldn't connect to the internet—essentially a banned device.
Chen Rang had never played a handheld game console before, but he was immediately intrigued. Whether he considered it a reward for a hard day's work or simply to satisfy his curiosity, he decided to take it home and play with it.
"Pokémon? This art style is pretty cute."
The first game listed was the famous Pokémon. Chen Rang hadn't played it but had heard of it; all the Pokémon in it were quite cute. He clicked on it and started trying it out.
"Meow?"
The cats, who were squatting, lying down, or sprawling in the cat house, were completely surprised that Chen Rang would not play with them after returning, and they all showed some dissatisfaction.
However, the charm of the game cannot be compared to that of a few cats.
Chen Rang was having a great time.
Especially since it was his first time trying Pokémon battles, seeing those adorable Pokémon actually attacking filled him with wonder. Their barks lowered the opponent's attack power—were they being affectionate? Were they using their cute voices to confuse the opponent?
There are also things like bumping into things and wagging their tails, which always feel like they have a simple sense of realism, as if they were small animals that could exist in reality.
He quickly became addicted to it.
"Awoo~"
After patiently waiting for more than ten minutes, DouDou got a little angry when she saw that her human was still sitting there without moving.
It's okay for the human to be busy, and it's okay for the human to bring other cats home; but if you're free, hurry up and come serve me! What kind of behavior is it to sit there slacking off by yourself?
DouDou got angrier and angrier, and started scratching at the glass of the cat house, making a scratching sound with her paws.
"DouDou, behave yourself!"
Chen Rang didn't even look up.
"Aww~"
DouDou roared back defiantly.
Unfortunately, its attitude went unanswered, and Chen Rang remained hopelessly immersed in the new world.
DouDou waited and waited, but Chen Rang still ignored her, so she finally couldn't hold back anymore. She started issuing random commands, deciding to command the cats like a clinic owner, making the once high and mighty creatures in the next room obey her orders.
"Gurgle~"
The little doll squinted its eyes, curled up into a ball, enjoying the slight vibrations coming from its throat, and refused to pay any attention.
"Awoo~"
The American Shorthair tabby yawned, flicked its tail, and closed its eyes to continue dozing.
The Silver Shaded Grandpa, or Silver Grandpa for short, lost a precious item and was thus relegated to the bottom of the social hierarchy. He knew very well who was in charge here, so after looking around, he chose to behave himself.
Only the big blue cat and the Munchkin cat living downstairs quickly became excited.
Both of them also enjoy lively atmospheres.
