Chapter 157: To The Control Room

Chapter 157: To The Control Room

The air around them thrummed with power as the dragon's systems updated, processing centuries of forgotten knowledge in mere moments.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the glowing circuits dimmed, the tendrils retracted, and the ground settled back into its original form, leaving no trace of the process that had just occurred.

The dragon's eyes gleamed with newfound knowledge, and it turned its gaze toward #4. "The data is now complete. I have reconnected with Clockwork City's core systems. The control room is located in this part of the map."

The dragon's eyes glowed brightly, projecting a detailed, holographic map into the air. The intricate lines and symbols floated between them, casting a soft light that illuminated the chamber.

#4 chirped in amazement, captivated by the whole thing.

'If you can connect with the city,' #4 began, excitement bubbling in his voice, 'can you control the gates from here?'

That would make everything so much easier for him and the others — they wouldn't have to risk venturing to the surface, where the enemy forces roamed, to find the control room.

The dragon's response was calm when he spoke next, "Unfortunately, that's not within my abilities. I can interface with the city's systems, but I don't have the necessary permissions or capabilities to control such critical decision."

#4's hope plummeted, slipping through his grasp like sand. 'I see . . .' he murmured, his excitement fading as reality set in.

Their only option now was to reach the control room on foot — a dangerous journey, especially with enemy forces lurking around. The map showed it wasn't close, either, but perhaps if they were careful, they could make it without being detected.

'Is there a shortcut we can take?' #4 asked, hoping for some advantage.

The dragon's holographic map shifted, the lines reconfiguring to display a new path. 'Generating the shortest possible route,' it announced, its voice steady and reassuring.

The labyrinthine tunnels, which had once loomed with menacing shadows, now felt almost welcoming. The dragon's glowing eyes bathed the path ahead in a soft, ethereal light, banishing the darkness that had once threatened to swallow him whole.

The echoes of the battle above grew louder with each hurried step, a constant reminder of the urgency of their mission.

#4 pushed forward as fast as his small legs could carry him, the dragon gliding effortlessly beside him. Each stride took them closer to the surface, where the true challenge awaited.

Finally, the tunnel ended, and #4 emerged into a vast, open space that took his breath away. He had entered the Clockwork City, a place of wonders that defied imagination.

The city was a marvel of engineering and artistry, a sprawling metropolis of gears, cogs, and clockwork mechanisms that stretched as far as the eye could see.

Towers of metal and glass rose high into the air, their spires adorned with intricate designs that glimmered in the light of the moon that hung above.

The city lay eerily silent, devoid of any sign of life, its streets deserted like a ghostly labyrinth where no living soul dared to tread except for the wondering Shadowborne legionaries.

As they wandered through the streets of the Clockwork City, #4 marveled at the sights around him. He passed by towering clockwork statues, their gears turning with a slow, deliberate tick. He saw massive, rotating orreries that mapped the movements of celestial bodies, their brass arms moving in perfect harmony.

He even caught a glimpse of the city's grand central clock, a towering structure that dominated the skyline, its face marked with the symbols of an ancient, forgotten language.

The sky was ablaze with the fury of the ongoing conflict. The armies clashed in a storm of steel and magic, and the air was thick with the sounds of war.

But #4 felt a sense of calm wash over him, a clarity of purpose that cut through the chaos.

The Clockwork Dragon hovered beside him, its wings beating steadily as it awaited his command. 'What do we do now, Master?' it asked, its voice a steady anchor in the midst of the turmoil.

'Let's go to the Control Room.'
