Chapter 389 389: Avarice -8
Nubira closed and opened his eyes again, but this time something was different—subtle, but present. He looked more human-like."I have waited for so long, alone." Nubira's words spilled one after another.
"I saw everything—the demise of Kushret, the death of mankind, and abandonment of the world by the god himself," he listed.
"What more should I do before I am relieved of this duty?" Nubira asked. He sounded desperate, but it was more than that—it was a question from someone who felt helpless.
I would too. In fact, I do sometimes... when the questions pile up with no solution in sight, anyone would feel helpless.
I don't know why I am here, standing in front of a being that's been forgotten by his own creator, but I could relate to Nubira in some way.
Have I not been feeling just that with the amount of stuff I've been through since being thrown into that world after my death?
What and why, there is an endless cycle of these two words in my mind that keeps on spinning.
"Smokeball," I sighed.
'You really want me to?' he asked, but there was uncertainty as he understood what I was trying to do.
And he complied.
I could see Nubira's eyes widen and his face crumble into thousands of emotions that were just hard to describe in words. It would be a lot to process at once, but somehow he managed not to collapse.
I stood there, watching as Nubira muttered to himself in a language unknown to me.
He was reading my mind, memories... everything. To be more precise, I let him.
Nubira made it clear that something was preventing him from reading my mind completely, and that was Blaze. He had put a blockade, just letting Nubira scratch the surface.
Now Blaze had removed that blockade, no longer keeping Nubira from knowing what I knew.
'You sure this won't backfire?' Blaze questioned.
Maybe it will. Nubira might see something that he's not supposed to, but there is no point in worrying about that, as sooner or later he'd have asked for this.
Answering his questions might help me solve some of mine, and then there's the problem of finding a way to leave this place, which would surely require Nubira in some way. I had to share what I knew.
He did the same.
'You are just giving excuses,' Blaze clicked his tongue.
And why would that be?
'Knowing you, revealing all the cards up your sleeve is the last thing you'd do. Ruu—You have trust issues.'
That is true.
Though even after weighing in the pros and cons, I felt like there's no other way to do this.
It has to be this way.
A dry chuckle brought me out of my thoughts. It was Nubira. He was done.
'That's enough for now. By the way, I also read his mind, and I do have a few interesting things that I would like to discuss with you, but first I'll just stop him from reading anymore.'
And with that, Blaze put up the mental blockade, barring Nubira from reading my mind again.
"It is beautiful."
Those were the words that Nubira uttered after he was done knowing everything.
"Let us resume our journey to the heart of Kushret." With that, he just turned around.
I silently followed, carrying Blaze over my shoulder.
A few more minutes passed by before curiosity got the better of me. "Is that all you have to say?"
Nubira looked past his shoulder while making way through the dunes. Each step I took forward felt lighter and lighter somehow.
"It is. Your world is beautiful." Nubira's tone was calm. "I understood what had to be. I will always be grateful to you—should I refer to you as Eric or Ren?"
"Ren is fine."
Being called Eric feels weird now.
"Understood. As for my opinion—I saw everything, and now it feels... meaningless. Kushret has been abandoned in the truest sense. There's a war awaiting your world."
"With nine gods, including my lord, focusing on what is happening in your world, there's nothing more for me to ask or say to you." Nubira's words carried no significant emotion.
Though it didn't stop him from asking,
"What do you think is the reason all these gods are raising mortals like me and those of your world, bestowing them with blessings and world-ending powers... just to stop a single race of living beings?"
"Well, that's something even I am wondering." I stepped beside him. "But I know that if it was something that gods could do on their own, they would've done it. Instead, they are using them. Maybe it is just like what was written in the game's storyline, and it's all to stop the demons, and once it's done the world would be at peace."
"The Hero puts an end to everything." I really hoped that was the case.
"But that doesn't stop your problems. You'll still be hated by them because of the fate curse over you."
"Yeah, my canonical death is not far from now. I am not going to kill myself, and neither am I going to let anyone do so to me."
I unconsciously tapped in my mind, and a blue slate appeared hovering in front of my eyes. It's been a while since I used this thing.
---
Curse: [Fate]
Information: An unknown curse placed on the host's current body by the world itself.
The closer the owner of the body gets to their fated death, the more the curse will work to make that fate come true.
Current Impact: 00.0%
Cure: None
---
Yeah, the impact is at zero because there's no one from the main cohort of the story here, nor am I in the world where my death is destined to happen.
But I am sure once I get back, it'll bounce back harder, affecting everyone.... annoying as it is, it made sense.
"It is still unbelievable that a person like you exists." Nubira chuckled. He seemed oddly fine with everything.
"Your body composition is not normal. You host multiple souls in your being, and there's a boon given to you by one of the gods."
Yeah...
"Wait.... a boon by a god?"
