Chapter 109 Miracle Team
Chapter 109 Miracle Team
Chapter 109 Miracle Team
Inside the pass, Xiuqi slowly lowered his hands that were covering his ears.
Just before Sylph appeared, he had already given the order to everyone as quickly as possible: "Close your eyes!"
"Pull your ears! Don't listen to that singing under any circumstances!"
Ado was very obedient; the ogre's huge hands firmly covered his ears, and his bright yellow eyes were tightly closed.
Max followed the orders, and the goblin warriors even plugged their ears with strips of cloth.
Princess was taken back by Xiuqi before Sylph appeared—currently, Xiuqi only has two summoning slots, meaning he can only summon two cards at a time.
Only Link...
The young hunter, perched on a treetop, had his eyes and ears closed, but Sylph's singing was so powerful that even from a distance of a hundred meters and despite the physical barriers, wisps of melody still seeped into his mind.
At one moment, Link felt his deepest, most primal longing surface.
He remembered when he was a child, his grandfather would take him hunting in the forest and teach him to recognize every kind of animal and every kind of plant.
Those were his most cherished memories.
However, at the same time, some seemingly insignificant details began to surface. For example, during their last meal at the tavern, Hugh gave the most food to Ado. At the time, Link didn't think much of it; ogres were enormous, so it was only natural that they received the most food.
But now.....
"Why?" a voice echoed in Link's mind. "I tried my best, I shot so many demons, why do I always get the least?"
Then, this morning when Max adjusted the formation, he moved Link to a higher position. At the time, Link thought it was a tactical necessity, but now...
"Does it think I'm too weak and only fit to hide in the back?"
And then there's Ado, that big, clumsy guy, always so awkward, but Hugh never says anything about him...
Jealousy, dissatisfaction, grievances... these subtle emotions are amplified tenfold in Sylph's singing.
Link's breathing became rapid, cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and his hand holding the bow trembled.
He wanted to open his eyes, to question, to vent...
Just then, a warm hand landed on his shoulder.
Xiuqi had climbed up the tree at some point and was standing behind Link.
The young hunter didn't even sense anyone approaching; his mind was completely consumed by his amplified emotions.
"Calm down, Link." Hugh's voice was soft, but it carried a strange penetrating power.
The rare meditation stone on his chest was operating at full power, and the warm spiritual energy flowed slowly into Link's body through Xiuqi's arm.
The psychic energy was like a clear spring, washing away the negative emotions churning in the boy's heart.
One minute, two minutes...
Link's rapid breathing gradually calmed, and his trembling hands steadied. He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze returning from confusion to clarity.
"I'm...I'm sorry, Mr. Hugh..." Link's voice was weak. "I...I don't know why..."
'
"It's not your fault," Xiuqi said calmly. "It's the influence of the song; it amplifies all emotions, whether good or bad."
You're still young, and it's normal that your willpower and mental strength aren't strong enough and you've been affected.
He withdrew his hand and looked at the battlefield.
Link followed the light and looked in the direction it was shining, and the young hunter's eyes widened in surprise.
The sight before him made him almost unable to believe his eyes.
The once formidable and well-organized demon army has now completely collapsed.
The original demons were self-harming and fighting each other, their mud-like body fragments scattered all over the ground; the cowardly demons were frantically fleeing or attacking indiscriminately, green poisonous mist permeating the demon horde; some of the lesser demons were secretly launching fireballs, while others were fighting amongst themselves, with only a few still charging towards the pass.
And those two Thorn Demons as leaders—
They were frantically attacking each other in an open area a hundred meters away.
Sparks flew with each clash of the bone blades, and dark red blood splattered everywhere. One Thorn Demon's right wing was severed in half, and the left arm of the other was riddled with cracks from the bone blades.
They were fighting desperately, battling to the death, as if the other was an irreconcilable mortal enemy.
The one who started all of this—the stunningly beautiful woman with two-colored wings—still hovered in mid-air, softly chanting that eerie and gentle poem.
Her eyes remained compassionate, as if the infighting among these demons was not caused by her, but rather a choice made by these filthy creatures themselves.
"This...this is..." Link's voice trembled, not from fear, but from shock.
"It's Sylph's power," Hugh said softly. "[The Great Love Poem]—while immersing all beings in beautiful memories, it also amplifies their current emotions tenfold."
He paused. "Demons are born with negative emotions—greed, jealousy, fear, anger. When these emotions are amplified, they... become what they are now."
Link swallowed hard. "So... what do we do now?"
Xiuqi looked at the scattered demons rushing towards the pass—there were about seven or eight of them, including lesser demons and original demons, all of whom were survivors who had escaped after their emotional breakdown.
"Clean up the remaining demons," Hugh said. "Ador, Max, prepare for battle."
The ogres and goblin warriors were already on high alert.
As the first lesser demon charged into the pass wielding its steel fork, Ado's spiked club came crashing down.
boom!
The little demon turned into a pile of minced meat.
The second Primal Demon tried to bypass it from the side, but Max swept his greatsword across and cut it in two.
The third one, the fourth one...
These scattered demons posed no threat whatsoever, and with the combined efforts of Ado and Max, they were all wiped out in less than five minutes.
Outside the pass, the demon army continued its infighting.
The original demons have been almost completely wiped out, the cowardly demons have also lost more than half of their number, and the lesser demons are still fighting amongst themselves.
The battle between the two Thorn Demons intensified—one had been pierced in the abdomen, and the other had its left leg slashed, yet they continued to attack each other relentlessly.
Sylph's singing gradually faded and eventually stopped.
Her two-colored wings slowly folded, and she hovered in the air, quietly watching the hellish scene below.
The emerald green wings and the violet wings simultaneously emitted a faint glow—the [Dual Wings Protection] ability was taking effect.
Xiu Qi could feel a warm life energy flowing through his body.
The minor strain on my left shoulder from the previous battle is healing slowly but steadily. Mental fatigue has also dissipated considerably, and my thinking is becoming clearer.
Is this the power of the [Dual Wings Protection] trait?
It not only provides healing and mental resistance, but also enhances spellcasting concentration.
Xiuqi took a deep breath and looked at Sylph.
Through the contractual connection, he could sense that Sylph had consumed a great deal of mental and magical energy to cast the [Great Love Poem].
Although she had just undergone an enhancement, the sustained, large-scale, and intense influence on hundreds of demons still left her feeling exhausted.
"Come back, Sylph!" Hughes conveyed his thoughts in his mind.
Sylph nodded slightly, her two-colored wings fluttered gently, and she slowly landed beside Xiuqi.
Upon landing, her body swayed slightly.
Xiuqi quickly stepped forward to support her.
The moment he touched her, he felt that Sylph's body was incredibly light, as if it had no weight. Her long, emerald-green hair cascaded down, exuding the fragrance of grass and trees.
"Master..." Sylph said softly, her voice ethereal and weak, "those filthy creatures..."
Their hearts are filled with darkness...
"You've done very well," Xiuqi said earnestly. "Let's go back to the cards and rest."
He retrieved Sylph from the cards.
The pink cards felt slightly warm in my hand, conveying a tired yet slightly joyful mood.
Xiuqi turned around and looked at the battlefield.
The infighting among the demon army is nearing its end.
The original demons were all wiped out, only a few cowardly demons remained and were still fleeing, and the lesser demons were almost all killed or wounded.
The battle between the two Thorn Demons is nearing its end.
The left Thorn Demon's bone blade pierced the heart of the right Thorn Demon, while the right Thorn Demon's tail spike pierced the left Thorn Demon's thigh.
The two elite demons remained frozen in their killing stances, standing motionless in the pool of blood.
Outside the pass, all was deathly silent.
Only the night wind carried the heavy smell of blood and sulfur. Moonlight shone on the demon corpses scattered on the ground, creating a bizarre and gruesome scene.
Hundreds of demons have been almost completely wiped out.
No one in Xiuqi's squad was seriously injured.
Ado has several shallow wounds, Max's left shoulder needs to be treated for the poison, Link's spirit has been injured but he has recovered, and Hugh's own magic power has been mostly depleted.
A seemingly hopeless situation was turned around by a 2-star epic card.
"It's...it's over?" Link climbed down from the treetop, his voice still filled with disbelief.
"It's over." Xiu Qi nodded. "At least this wave of attacks is over."
He approached Max and examined the wound on the goblin warrior's left shoulder.
The poison on the Thorn Demon's tail sting has been suppressed by 12 points of Constitution and the Bird Poet's [Dual Wing Protection], but the muscles around the wound are still black and need to be purified.
Xiuqi took out an antidote and bandages from his spatial ring and began to treat Max's wounds.
Ado walked to the edge of the pass, his massive body standing before the mountain of demon corpses, his clear yellow eyes scanning the battlefield.
The ogre made a confused gurgling sound in its throat, seemingly not understanding why the demons had suddenly started fighting each other.
It turned to look at Xiuqi, its eyes full of questions.
Hugh laughed: "It's Sylph's singing, Ado. She reminded those demons of what they hate most, and then they started attacking those things."
Ado nodded as if he understood, then stretched out his huge hand, patted his ear, pointed to his head, and finally shook his head.
The meaning was clear: I don't understand the singing, so I'm fine.
Xiu Qi was stunned for a moment, then he understood.
Ado's mind is simple and pure—he wants to protect Shuki, to be well-fed, and to carve wood. Apart from that, he has almost no other complex emotions.
There was no jealousy, no discontent, no fear.
Therefore, the Psalms of Love had almost no effect on Ado. Those amplified emotions simply did not exist for Ado.
"So that's how it is..." Xiu Qi murmured to himself, "The purest hearts are the least affected."
He looked at Ado, where the ogre was clumsily poking at the corpse of a small lesser demon with his spiked club, seemingly checking for anything of value.
Xiuqi's lips curled into a slight smile.
Sometimes, simplicity is the strongest defense.
A campfire burned in the center of the 11th Regiment's camp, but no one was in the mood to warm themselves by the fire.
Eight people sat around the fire, all fully armed, with their weapons within easy reach.
Captain Cade was smoking a pipe, but the pipe had already gone out.
His brows were furrowed, and his gaze occasionally swept towards the southeast—the location where the deep purple fireworks had risen, and also the eastern half of the region where the Xiuqi Squad was located.
Captain Allen sat opposite him, unconsciously wiping his longsword. The captain, a former ranger, now wore a somber expression, devoid of his usual gentleness.
"It's been almost an hour." Allen broke the silence. "Logically, if the demonic tide were spreading from the depths, it should have passed through the Eastern District first before reaching us."
Cade nodded: "So either the demonic tide will take a detour, or..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but everyone understood what came after that "or."
Either the Xiuqi Squad blocked the demonic tide.
Either the Xiuqi squad has been completely wiped out, and the demonic tide is currently digesting its spoils and has not yet made any further progress.
Either possibility is unbelievable.
"That young mage apprentice..." Blake, the greatsword warrior of Squad 31, couldn't help but ask, "Can he really stop this wave of demonic energy?"
No one answered.
Because the answer is too obvious—it's impossible.
A mage apprentice, a young hunter, and an ogre. With that kind of setup, they'd be lucky to handle a dozen or so low-level demons.
Faced with a massive demonic tide that can trigger a deep purple warning, the chances of survival are extremely slim.
Selena clasped her hands together and prayed softly, "Merciful Lord of the Dawn, please bless those who are brave."
""
Her voice was incredibly firm.
Just then, a faint whistle suddenly came from the perimeter of the camp—a warning signal from the wanderer Lynn.
Everyone instantly grabbed their weapons and went into battle mode.
But Lynn's figure quickly emerged from the shadows. He was unharmed, but his face bore an indescribable complex expression.
"How is it?" Cade asked immediately.
Lynn walked to the fire, took a deep breath, and seemed to be organizing his thoughts.
"I...I've reached the edge of the East District." The wanderer's voice was a little hoarse. "There...a battle is taking place there."
"The battle is still going on?" Allen's eyes lit up. "Is the Hughes Squad still alive?"
"No, it's not them." Lynn shook his head, his expression even more bizarre. "It's demons... demons fighting demons."
A brief silence fell over the camp.
"What?" Cade thought he had misheard.
"Demons are fighting demons." Lynn repeated, his tone certain. "I saw that the demon army included Primal Demons, Fearful Demons, Lesser Demons, and... two Thorn Demons."
"Thorn Demon?!" Allen gasped.
Two low-rank demon elites, each at Challenge Level 2! That's enough to wipe out three squads like theirs!
“Yes, two Thorn Demons,” Lynn continued, “they’re killing each other too!”
He paused, as if recalling that bizarre scene: "The other demons were too... the original demons were harming themselves, the cowardly demons were attacking indiscriminately, and the lesser demons were fighting amongst themselves. The entire battlefield was like the demons had suddenly gone mad and started killing each other."
"What about the Hughes Squad?" Selena asked anxiously.
"I saw them at the pass," Lynn said. "They're still alive. The ogres and that goblin are clearing out the scattered demons, and the young hunter is on guard in the treetops."
He looked at Cade and Allen, his eyes filled with confusion and shock: "Captain, I don't know what happened. But based on my observation, the Xiuqi Squad suffered almost no casualties, while the demon army... is being wiped out."
Dead silence.
The only sound in the camp was the crackling of the campfire.
Eight people, eight faces, all with the same expression: disbelief, incomprehension, and even suspicion that Lynn was under an illusion.
"Are you sure?" Cade's voice was hoarse.
"I'm sure," Lynn said seriously. "I crept up to within a hundred paces of the pass and observed for a full five minutes. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes."
Allen and Cade exchanged a glance.
They both saw the same shock in each other's eyes, and... a glimmer of hope.
If what Lynn said is true, if the Xiuqi Squad really wiped out an entire demon army, including two Thorn Demons, with almost zero casualties...
This young apprentice mage is probably far more terrifying than they imagined.
"Captain," Allen said slowly, "what do we do now?"
Cade remained silent for a moment.
His gaze swept over everyone in the camp—eight young, weary faces, eight pairs of eyes that, despite their dire circumstances, had not completely lost hope.
Then, he made a decision.
"Go to the pass." Cade stood up, his voice firm. "Find Captain Xiuqi and join them."
"But..." Blake hesitated, "If they really hold back the demonic tide, wouldn't it be pointless for us to go? And what if we encounter other demons along the way..."
'
"If the Eastern Front falls, we won't escape either," Cade interrupted him. "If we stay together, we might still have a chance to survive."
He looked at Allen: "Captain Allen, what do you think?"
The ranger captain pondered for a moment, then nodded: "I agree. And... I want to see for myself... how he did it."
Once the decision was made, no one objected anymore.
The eight people quickly tidied up the campsite, extinguished the campfire, and organized their equipment.
Five minutes later, the joint squads of numbers 31 and 32 set off towards the pass.
In the darkness of night, eight figures moved swiftly through the forest.
Their direction was towards the battlefield where a miraculous battle had just ended.
