Chapter 850
Chapter 850
Anton was surprised when Paul and Eric declined his offer of spellbooks. Paul quietly explained that the young people gathered there were hardly close friends of theirs. They were not close enough to deserve benefits such as expensive spellbooks.“I can offer the spellbooks to them at a low price, but they’ll need to come up with the coins first,” Paul whispered to Anton.
Anton simply nodded and told Paul to inform him if any of them wanted to purchase a spellbook. To make things simpler, he instructed Paul to price the spellbooks at half the cost of the cheapest ones available on the ship.
Anton had long wanted to clear his inventory of redundant spellbooks, but whenever he thought about doing so, he simply felt too lazy to bother. Even after giving some of them to Paul and Eric, he would still have dozens of copies of the same low-level spells sitting in his inventory.
Back in New Drennor, when he had requested copies of spellbooks, the woman managing the hotel where he was staying had brought him a large collection. Anton had not even bothered reviewing them at the time. He had simply shoved them into his inventory, knowing it would be easier to examine them later through the system interface provided by his Diablo System.
Anton was highly amused when Paul began quietly scolding him out of earshot of the others. It was funny watching Paul struggle to keep his voice down while criticizing him for being gullible and overly generous.
Anton suspected that Paul felt guilty for taking advantage of him. After all, Anton had already paid for everything they had bought in the Noble Section for their families, despite the fact that neither Paul nor Eric had done much for him yet. They were supposed to be his guides, but so far they had only taken him to two places. The first had been the “hidden” tavern, where they spent the entire time eating, drinking, and getting drunk. The second was this deck filled with young people.
Still, Anton enjoyed mingling with them. The young men and women treated him as one of their own, despite Paul having openly introduced him as a wealthy young wizard. Anton suspected it was because of how he dressed and carried himself. He looked and behaved like an ordinary person rather than a noble with his nose perpetually in the air.
Before long, Anton found himself telling them his story.
He openly shared the fact that he had awakened more than two years ago inside his father's farmhouse with no memory of his previous life. He explained how he had somehow gained access to an extraordinarily powerful bloodline magic, which he believed might have been granted in exchange for his lost memories.
With everyone hanging on to his every word—including Paul and Eric—Anton recounted how he had used his newfound abilities to escape the undead armies that had suddenly invaded the kingdoms of Rendindura.
He described the harrowing experiences he and his family had endured while fleeing. He spoke of encountering massive armies of zombies, ghouls, and vampires. He explained that his power grew stronger with every enemy he defeated, and because an endless tide of undead seemed determined to devour him and his family, his abilities had expanded at an astonishing rate during their journey.
He told them about entering a village only to discover that it was inhabited by werewolves who intended to make a meal of his family.
He spoke of the merchants who had joined their group on the road and of eventually reaching Zalnothel, a wizard kingdom within Rendindura. Anton explained how he and his family had hoped to settle there, believing they would finally be safe from the undead under the protection of powerful wizards.
Unfortunately, even that supposedly mighty kingdom had fallen, forcing them to flee once again.
For hours, Anton entertained the young people gathered on the deck where Paul and Eric's friends often spent their time. He recounted his experiences while fleeing from the Undead Coalition, all the way to the destruction of the Amelia and the desperate use of his bloodline magic to ensure the survival of himself, his father, and his sister.
Surprisingly, Anton found the experience somewhat cathartic.
Sharing his story with mere acquaintances allowed him to reflect on everything he had endured over the past few years. By the time he finished, Paul, Eric, and all of their friends were staring at him with expressions of awe.
Anton did not know whether his story would change how they treated him in the future.
As the sun began to set, everyone had to return to their families. They exchanged farewells, and Anton left alongside Paul and Eric.
“So, will the others start treating me like some powerful wizard and stop speaking to me normally?” Anton asked.
“No,” Eric replied. “To them, your story sounds like something straight out of a novel. Honestly, I’m not even sure they believe you.”
“I still have trouble believing half of what you’ve told us,” Paul admitted softly. “And I know you’re not lying.”
Anton laughed.
“My story isn’t even finished yet. I haven’t told you how I became extremely rich while staying in Ormunda.”
Naturally, Paul immediately asked for details.
Anton merely grinned.
“That story can wait for another time. Right now, we need to find somewhere to eat dinner.”
Paul and Eric immediately requested that they dine in one of the restaurants located in the Noble Section.
Anton stared at them wryly.
Still, he understood their reasoning. Why wouldn’t they take advantage of the opportunity to experience the finest food the ship had to offer when someone else was willing to pay?
The three of them headed toward the Noble Section and selected another restaurant there.
Upon entering a restaurant called the Noble’s Kiss, Anton experienced his first real encounter with discrimination, almost certainly because of his clothing.
The young host looked at them with open disdain.
“We don’t serve rubbish that crawls up from the Bottoms,” he said.
Paul and Eric stared at the man in disbelief.
Anton, meanwhile, was simply flabbergasted by the audacity of someone attempting to deny him service.
Then he remembered what the captain had told him. If anyone in the Noble Section refused him service, all he had to do was present his room token, which identified him as someone entitled to enjoy any service offered there.
Anton retrieved the token and showed it to the host.
The man merely scoffed.
“You must have stolen it from someone.”
The host appeared ready to summon the guards.
Anton had no desire to continue dealing with the cretin.
Using his Telekinesis spell, he effortlessly lifted the man into the air.
The host immediately began screaming.
Anton calmly raised him higher until the man was pressed against the ceiling.
“Mr. Sunders, why are you doing that to Mr. Laudermole?” one of the ship’s guards asked as he arrived.
Mr. Laudermole visibly paled when he noticed how respectfully the guards addressed Anton.
“This creature informed me that someone from the Bottom does not deserve to be served here,” Anton said calmly. “I do not wish to see him again. Otherwise, I may decide to throw this cretin into the sea.”
Anton lowered the man from the ceiling and handed him over to the guards, who promptly dragged him away with little concern for his comfort.
“We apologize for what happened, Mr. Sunders,” the guard said. “I’ll make sure it does not happen again.”
“I thought everyone who needed to know would already know who the important passengers in the Noble Section were,” Anton said.
“They should,” the guard replied. “But Mr. Laudermole probably hadn’t yet completely reviewed the details regarding the ship’s most important passengers.”
The guard then silently signaled one of his men, who immediately headed toward the back of the restaurant.
Anton assumed they were going to find someone to replace the former host.
