Chapter 159 How it Works
How it Works
Thanatos sat cross-legged on top of one of the walls in the fortress. Before him was an interesting environment. It was a forest. However, the trees weren't made of wood but pure white ice.
They were towering at hundreds of meters with strange transparent fruits hanging from them.
The place was populated with extremely violent ice monkeys, and the terrain made fighting them difficult as they had the advantage of navigation and the skill to swing between the trees easily, while the soldiers were well trained, they weren't used to facing these types of foes.
Luckily, the soldiers were resourceful and quick to adapt as methods to deal with the monkeys without climbing the trees to meet them were developed.
Through these methods, the monkeys were slowly dealt with, and all sorts of resources were acquired and transferred to the stronghold.
That's how it was meant to be, sadly stronghold 1 was under so much pressure since they entered the hidden realm that they hadn't even gotten the chance to properly start exploring to gain resources. They were still processing the beast corpses they salvaged after the last attack after all.
Thanatos would have sighed if he had lungs before looking up.
There wasn't anything in the direction he looked. At least, not to most people, but he could easily pierce through the stealth formation the vessel was using to hide itself.
The seer had informed him of its presence a while ago as well, so he was alert. Thus, he quickly found its position.
Despite that, though, he made no move to attack and simply watched.
Christopher instructed them not to engage with anyone from the clans if they encountered them unless they attacked first.
This vessel hadn't done anything yet, and it was on its own, which was an assurance in itself.
That said, Thanatos didn't drop his guard. In reality, he wasn't one for sentimentality or giving the benefit of the doubt. If he felt threatened, he'd kill you, even if you hadn't done anything.
Sadly, Christopher had a strict no-kill rule when dealing with people he deemed as potential allies, so unless he had to, he wasn't allowed to kill them for no reason.
It wasn't all that bad, though. He could wait for as long as he needed if he had to.
If anything, he was just disappointed that he couldn't immediately add them to his army.
At this point, his army had reached the millions. This place was teeming with all sorts of life he got to kill and raise as undead.
And with the Primordial Expanse acting as his energy source, he could keep them active for an indefinite amount of time as well as experiment however he pleased without worrying about energy consumption.
That's why before, the best he could do was create chimeras that were powerful, but not powerful enough.
That's because in their case, their increase in strength was an addition, as opposed to a multiplication which he desired.
However, now that he had a wealth of knowledge and resources at his disposal, not to mention the varying undead that now filled his army, the amount of things he could do was staggering.
A clear example of this would be Thanatis' current greatest creation.
Underground near the fortress, the entity was sleeping. It was something he called the Grave Tyrant.
It was the fusion of a Lich commander (obviously he can make more Liches) which had powerful control over lesser undead and great intellect, a Wraith General that possessed near-perfect intangibility and spectral manipulation, and a Bone behemoth that possessed a large frame of ever-regenerating bones, the result is a towering undead overlord, impervious to most attacks, capable of controlling armies of undead while moving between the physical and spectral state at will. Possessing incredible magical capabilities while being equally deadly as a melee combatant, intelligence, incredible defenses, and so on.
A single Grave Tyrant was like a natural disaster that could raise its own armies of undead and could bring despair to any who saw it.
And this was simply to beginning.
Thanatos was confident that in the future, his army would only grow, and he would come to possess the corpses, skeletons, and spirits of some powerful entities. When that happened, his options would grow far wider and vaster than before, allowing him to create undead, the likes of which have never been seen before.
Again, he wanted to sigh but couldn't as he lacked lungs, but he still used magic to mimic the gesture anyway because he wanted to.
His gaze hadn't shifted away from the ship that was still in its stealth mode, his body perfectly still.
But at some point, he stood up, his bones which were hidden behind his robe making grating sounds that were oddly pleasant to hear. In a strange, grim sort of way.
Then he turned his head to the side and said.
"What do you people want?" It seemed like he was speaking to no one, but a moment later, the spot he was looking at shimmered, and a humanoid praying mantis wearing a green uniform appeared, its body trembling slightly.
There was no commotion among the surrounding soldiers when the being appeared, simply because they knew it was there too. The only reason they hadn't done anything was because Thanatos hadn't done anything and the being hadn't tried anything.
They didn't react, but their hands were on their weapons and Mana moved subtly as many prepared to nuke the guy on the spot.
"I'm... here to relay a message." The person said with a trembling voice. Which wasn't odd, trying to sneak into somewhere only to realize that your greatest stealth skill could be seen through like glass by everyone in that place was scary.
Hearing this, Thanatos just stared.
"Wellz what's the message?"
