Chapter 155 Azure
Chapter 155 Azure
Azure
"From now on, your name will be Azure," Christopher said after some thought.
When he did, he noticed a very faint shudder from her body.
"Azure..." She whispered softly, as if testing the way the name rolled off her tongue.
Christopher nodded.
"Mhm, your name is Azure." He confirmed and saw that her status window changed to include the new name.
Satisfied, Christopher turned to Azure, who still seemed a bit taken aback.
"Take off your helmet. I want to see your face as I talk to you." He said, not for any strange reason, it's just that he was used to speaking to the faces of his people. That and she was pleasant to look at.
Hearing the instruction, Azure didn't hesitate. Her helmet seemed to turn into blue dust that fell off her head and melded with the rest of her armor, revealing her beautiful face.
Satisfied, Christopher observed her for a moment before saying.
"Can you tell me about yourself?" He was curious about her past and her origins.
Azure nodded dutifully.
"I was the first of the Azure knights created by the former lord and head of his vanguard." Hearing this, Christopher felt a bit of anticipation.
There was quite a bit to learn about this hidden realm from the Scions. However, Christopher was more interested in the creator and the type of person they were.
Still, Christopher didn't immediately jump to the bug stuff and asked.
"When my former lord passed away, their bodies gradually eroded and turned into many of the various rare treasures those outside the realm seek to attain." Hearing this, Christopher blinked.
'Well, that's kind of ominous.' He sighed and asked another question.
"Why didn't you erode? In fact, why were you waiting on top of that mountain in that door? You were waiting for a challenger, why?" He enquired curiously.
"The reason I didn't erode is unknown to me, I attribute it to the works of my former lord. As for why I was waiting at the top of the mountain, indeed, I was waiting for a challenger. My former lord... he wanted me to find someone worth serving after his death if I was defeated by someone on that mountain, then I'd follow that person." Christopher was genuinely surprised by this.
'... Something tells me she wasn't just another soldier.' His interested amusement turned a little bit more sober at the thought.
'If what I'm getting from this is right, her former lord didn't just create her as a tool. He genuinely cared for her, enough to give her a choice in the future. If she was meant to simply exist until she eroded away like the others, there would be no need for such a test and condition. The fact that she remained intact while others faded away... hm.' Christopher considered multiple possibilities.
He judged the main reason she didn't erode away was because of her unique bloodline, but the fact that her creator knew she would eventually have to change masters meant there was more to it. Most likely, he made her to be more stable or durable than her counterparts, which would explain a lot.
He also wanted her to live on. Instead of eroding into a simple treasur like the rest of his creations, he ensured that she had a path forward. One that depended on her strength and judgment.
'What kind of Paragon was he really?' The question rang in Christopher's mind. He didn't know what he expected personality wise. But if he was daring enough to lead all sorts of people and mess up fate just to find a good enough vessel to take over and revive himself, then Christopher imagined he'd be quite ruthless.
Yet this revelation caused that image to slowly crack. Then again, it isn't completely outlandish for a ruthless person to care deeply about someone.
Still, it made Christopher all the more curious about who this Paragon was.
He was also impressed with his foresight which was good enough to allow him to plan so far ahead. It was impressive, to say the least.
But he was curious about something else. This Paragon clearly favored her, but the more he thought about it, the more he was a bit confused. Didn't she seem a but... weak?
"Say, weren't you a bit weak if you were so favored by your former lord? You'd have been at the peak of the Apex rank at least right?" This made Azure pause before nodding.
"Master is correct. I was at the Sovereign rank before the former lord passed away. However, after he passed away, my Comrades and I started to regress. I assume this is one of the reasons they eroded. But for some reason, when I regressed to the Grey rank, my strength stopped declining, which I attribute to my former lord again." Hearing this, Christopher was curious. There was a lot more to Azure than he had originally anticipated, and he intended to learn all of it
