Chapter 308: Ch.307 Run After Setting a Trap
Apocalypse's plan wasn't bad. In the hands of some, it might have been an effective way to deal with the Phoenix.
As long as I run fast enough, loneliness can't catch me.
However, while he was an omnipotent mutant, Apocalypse had hardly ever developed his speed abilities.
Mutant powers are innate but require continuous study and training to unlock deeper usage.
Since 3000 BC, Apocalypse had been carried by others whenever he traveled. When he was in a hurry, he relied on telekinesis to fly. He never had the opportunity to train himself in running.
And relying solely on telekinesis for flight meant he was nowhere near as fast as the Phoenix.
The once sandy terrain turned into a red, molten landscape as the Phoenix descended, scorching the earth. Perhaps this area would become a "glass desert" tourist spot in the future, but for Apocalypse, who was being relentlessly pursued by the Phoenix, there was no time to appreciate the scenery.
For some reason, the Phoenix seemed to bear a deep grudge against him, chasing him relentlessly.
As the red wings of fire unfurled, they painted the entire sky crimson, making it seem as if everything was ablaze.
In the heart of the Phoenix's energy was a small figure. She needed no gestures or movements—just her expressionless gaze was enough.
Apocalypse had layered himself with various protective shields, but under the intense heat and flames, they burst like fragile bubbles. Even with his telekinesis fully engaged, flying away as fast as he could, the distance between him and the Phoenix only shrank.
He activated his phasing ability, but the Phoenix could still see and harm him. He tried to traverse through time, but the Phoenix tore through time and continued its pursuit.
Images flashed and flickered as he tried every possible tactic, yet the enormous fiery bird stayed on his trail.
Despair began to creep into Apocalypse's heart.
At that moment, he noticed the group fleeing on a "magic carpet" in another direction.
A thought flashed through his mind, and he veered toward Su Ming's group.
"Dammit, he's trying to get us killed," Su Ming cursed internally, realizing the dire situation.
A corrupted Phoenix generally showed no mercy, not even to friends.
Su Ming's original plan had been to summon Jean Grey, hoping she could use some of the Phoenix's power to deal with Apocalypse. But what he hadn't anticipated was the arrival of a fully unleashed Dark Phoenix.
"What's this? A deathbed confession? You can't even die," Su Ming said, his disgust evident.
"No, I just wanted you to know, I've been really happy being with you. I cherish our time together. You're my only family now, and I'll never forget our time together," Wade declared, tossing the half-eaten rabbit into the ocean below and removing his mask to look at Su Ming with sincerity.
"???" Su Ming was confused by Wade's words. What was he on about now? Was he having a depressive episode?
"It means a lot to me, truly. I value you more than anything," Wade said, clutching his heart with one hand and patting Cable's shoulder with the other, as if urging him to wake up and vouch for him.
Su Ming's eyes narrowed as he began to understand.
"So... would it be okay if you named me as the beneficiary in your will? Cash, stocks, real estate—any of it works. If you die, I think those things will help me cope with the pain of losing you."
"Heh... my foolish little brother."
Su Ming's shoulders shook as he laughed maniacally, then, like a flash, drew the Nightfall Sword and sliced Wade in half from head to chest, forming a Y-shape.
Peace and quiet returned.
"Why did you do that?" Rogue, seeing Wade's brains splattered everywhere, finally vomited over the side of the cloak. After retching for some time, she looked at Su Ming with a complex expression.
She wasn't questioning why he killed Deadpool. She often felt like cutting him down herself.
She was asking why he chose such a grotesque method.
"Vertical slicing makes it easier to apply force, and it does a better job of destroying his vocal cords. You know, just cutting off his head wouldn't stop him from talking, right?"
Su Ming sheathed his sword, keeping an eye on the horizon. If he was right, the Phoenix would come after them again.
After all, Cable was still here.
Whether it was Jean or the Phoenix, they were drawn to Cable. What the Phoenix planned to do to him, Su Ming couldn't say.
If she intended to give Cable a "warm" embrace, he likely wouldn't survive it. And a corrupted Phoenix might want to kill Cable to further destabilize Jean's mind.
She dealt with Apocalypse first because he posed the greatest threat. Instinctively, she would prioritize him. As for the others, they could be handled afterward.
Kneeling on the expanded cloak, Su Ming scanned the surroundings, rapidly strategizing his next move.
