Chapter 2464 - 2440: Unexpected Assistance
In Satan’s command center, Gao Yang’s anxious heart could not find a moment’s peace.Liang Dong and Vorvitsky’s injuries were both extremely severe. Vorvitsky’s condition was still uncertain, but Liang Dong’s injuries meant that any delay would be fatal, leaving no chance of survival.
Liang Dong must be transferred as soon as possible to Somalia, where Satan had long prepared medical equipment and drugs. The fastest way to transfer him, of course, was by plane, but the problem was that Liang Dong was on Yemen’s northwest border, where there was no airport.
Gao Yang had five usable AN-32s at hand, with sufficient range and equipped pilots, but when they were actually needed, the lack of an airport left them despairing. It was truly an unbearable situation.
Sanaa Airport was under the control of the Houthis Armed Forces. Transporting Liang Dong by car to Sanaa Airport and then flying out wasn’t out of the question, but a journey of several hundred kilometers would render Liang Dong dead upon arrival.
Gao Yang was searching for a solution; he even considered sending Liang Dong and Vorvitsky to najran, which had an airport and was only a few dozen kilometers away. Time-wise, it was the only feasible way to save Liang Dong.
But najran was heavily garrisoned, and none of Gao Yang’s contacts had the capability to arrange for a plane to take off from najran undetected.
Desperation weighed heavily on Satan’s command center, and Gao Yang was no exception. As time passed by the minute, the best scenario would be to arrange for Liang Dong’s immediate departure after Andy He’s surgery, regardless of whether it was by plane or car.
Finally, Gao Yang put down the phone he had been holding and said in a low voice, "Joseph, you and Andy He, along with four members of the Dagger Assault Team, will drive and take the team leader and Cobra to Sanaa. A plane will land at Sanaa Airport in two hours; try to get the team leader there within six hours."
Joseph nodded with a solemn face.
Glolov could only let out a long sigh.
Gao Yang suddenly felt very tired. He began to question what reason there was for him to continue his mercenary career.
If no one died, even the most dangerous situations were just thrilling. But once someone was dead, it was different altogether.
He shook his head forcefully, as if trying to shake off thoughts he shouldn’t have, and then weakly said, "Go make the preparations, and be careful on the road."
Joseph went to prepare the car and the necessary supplies for the journey. Under the sunshade, no one spoke, Gao Yang tried to say something, but in the end, he only said wearily, "Dismiss for now, stay alert, and don’t let the enemy take out our command center."
As everyone silently got up to leave, someone suddenly called out loudly, "What happened? What’s the situation?"
Gao Yang looked up and found that it was Salim who had finally arrived.
Salim was responsible for many affairs on the Northwestern Front. Although he wasn’t a military commander, many combat matters still required his input, so Salim naturally couldn’t stay with Satan’s people all the time.
"Our Dagger Assault Team on the front line was attacked. The enemy is an elite Special Forces unit from Shah, including four armed helicopters. Only six people from Cobra’s Dagger Assault Team were uninjured, the rest mostly killed. To rescue them, Mouse was mortally wounded, and Cobra was critically injured, his condition unknown."
Salim asked urgently, "Is Mouse seriously injured? If he’s that critical, he should be sent to Sanaa for treatment. Conditions here are too poor, there’s nothing! Only in Sanaa would he have a chance."
Gao Yang replied helplessly, "We’re preparing to send him to Sanaa, but by the time the car reaches there, it might be too late. We have planes, but they can’t land here."
Salim waved his hand and said loudly, "Can’t helicopters work? We have helicopters, and it would take just over an hour to get to Sanaa by helicopter..."
Gao Yang jumped up in surprise and said, "You have helicopters?"
"Yes, we’ve captured several helicopters from the Government Forces. We didn’t have pilots before, but now Iran has sent pilots. Our helicopters can fly, though they’re not in great condition and frequently have issues, but those Iranian pilots say they can be used now."
"But..."
Gao Yang started to say "but" and immediately changed his tone to, "Get the helicopter here immediately, as fast as possible, Salim, I’m begging you!"
Gao Yang realized he had really underestimated the power of a state. Yemen is indeed too poor, with truly nothing, but no matter how poor a country is, it is still a country!
Gao Yang knew Yemen had an air force, with MiG-29s, and a few Mi-35 Armed Helicopters, plus a dozen or so transport helicopters, mostly concentrated in Sanaa. After the Houthis Armed Forces took over Sanaa, they also took over most of Yemen’s air force assets.
However, all of Yemen’s MiG-29s were useless because lack of maintenance and upkeep had rendered all fighter jets mere exhibits, unable to take off, left in hangars for visits. The helicopters were the same, and the few usable ones were commandeered for Hadi’s use. When Hadi left, he took all the helicopters to Aden.
But Yemen now had usable helicopters again. With Iran’s assistance, the Houthis Armed Forces were actually transitioning from a guerrilla-type force to a regular army, though this change was still in its infancy, it was a change nonetheless. The Houthis Armed Forces were learning to become a truly national military.
The Shah People proved that even if they were terrible in warfare, a mercenary group could still be crushed by a massive amount of high-tech equipment. The Houthis Armed Forces showed that no matter how backward they might be, they were not to be underestimated by a mercenary group.
Gao Yang never imagined that Houthis Armed Forces could provide any help, let alone supply the much-needed aircraft. He hadn’t thought to inform Salim at all beforehand, but in the end, Salim was the one to help resolve the biggest hurdle.
Salim, unaware of Gao Yang’s thoughts, said urgently, "We have an armed helicopter at the front line, less than fifty kilometers from here. Yahya has already arrived at the Northwest Border line, and he came by helicopter. There will be no problem mobilizing the helicopter."
The Mi-35 is the export model of the Mi-24, and the versions Yemen had were early models, but they were sufficient to transport Liang Dong and Vorvitsky to Sanaa.
Gao Yang wasted no time. He grasped Salim’s hand tightly and said, "Hurry, get the helicopter over here, now!"
