"Mrs. Kent, is Clark here?" Lois asked anxiously as Martha Kent opened the door.@@@@
Martha's demeanor had noticeably warmed since their last encounter. She smiled and stepped aside. "Oh, it's you two. Clark told me that you're his friends. Come in and have a seat. He went to the church to pray and should be back soon."
Lois glanced at Jerry, who nodded reassuringly.
"Do you guys want to eat or drink something? That's the least I could offer for Clark's friends... especially when you are helping him going through tough times like this." Martha said in a pitiful tone, trying to offer refreshments for both of them.
Jerry shook his head in response, "No need to trouble yourself, Mrs. Kent! Isn't that what friends should do? Help each other in need?"
Hearing Jerry said those, it made Martha's heart softened a bit. Knowing that even Clark is not a people person, he currently has good company to help him.
"Thank you... you don't know how much those words mean to me," Martha replied with a slight smile before leading them to the living room. "I brewed some coffee this morning. At least have that. I insist!"
"Well, if you say so," Jerry replied with a shrug.
They settled onto the living room sofa, sipping Martha's hand-ground coffee while they waited for Clark. Lois appeared worried, while Jerry seemed relaxed.
Jerry knew what choice Clark would make, and in any case, the choice itself wasn't crucial to him.
Regardless, he knew he would eventually have to confront Zod and his group of Kryptonians. The outcome would ultimately depend on strength. He wasn't particularly concerned about the human government's stance.
In the clash between Clark and Zod, humans were mostly irrelevant. Superman's willingness to don handcuffs and allow the human army to escort him to Zod was simply a testament to his kindness.
"Are those FBI agents okay?" Lois asked cautiously while sipping her coffee.
Martha tried to ask the same question from earlier, but she held herself back. Afraid of what will Jerry do to her, because she thought it wasn't the appropriate time.
"They're immobilized for now but will be fine in half an hour," Jerry replied seriously, then chuckled at Lois's horrified expression. "Just kidding. I'm not an evil dark wizard, and I don't enjoy killing people. They'll be back to normal soon. Don't worry."
Lois seemed slightly relieved. She didn't think Jerry was a bad person; after all, he had sought out Clark when he foresaw a crisis for Earth.
"Jerry, where did you learn magic?" Lois couldn't help but ask, her curiosity as a reporter piqued after witnessing his magical abilities.
"I know Zod has a conspiracy. Even if I surrender, it may not prevent the war. Humans still don't trust me, and I'm uncertain if I should trust them. But the priest's advice was clear: to gain trust, you must first offer it. So, I've decided to surrender to Zod and earn the trust of humans."
"This is too dangerous for you!" Lois exclaimed, worry etched on her face.
She understood Clark's perspective but also knew that Zod, the Kryptonian general who had killed Clark's father, had come to Earth specifically to find Clark.
His intentions were undoubtedly evil.
"Jerry, what do you think?" Lois asked, turning to Jerry, who had been listening closely.
Clark also looked to Jerry, recognizing him as a wise figure who had used magic to foresee the impending disaster. He was eager to hear Jerry's counsel.
Jerry set down his coffee and replied, "I don't entirely agree with Clark's approach, given the nature of the human government's leadership. They seek to control everything and view any uncontrollable element as a threat. However, surrendering isn't without merit. Entering Zod's spaceship could provide valuable insights. If there's genuine danger, I can use my magic to bring Clark back to Earth."
Both Clark and Lois brightened at Jerry's response.
"But it's going to risk his life in the process, isn't it?" Martha asked with a terrified expression.
Jerry slowly walked to her before putting his hand on her shoulder, "I would be lying if I said there is not, Mrs. Kent. But I can assure you that Clark will return to you when all of this is over."
They had forgotten that Jerry, a skilled magician, had the ability to teleport. If a conspiracy were afoot, they could escape quickly.
Additionally, Clark's willingness to surrender could demonstrate to humans that he was a benevolent alien committed to Earth's peace, not a threat.
"Thank you for believing in me and helping me," Clark said earnestly, his gratitude evident.
In a world where trust was scarce, Lois was willing to risk treason to escape the FBI's capture, and Jerry, who had no personal stake in the matter, was prepared to face danger alongside him. Clark felt deeply moved and grateful for their support.
