Chapter 73, Chu Junzhuo
Chapter 73, Chu Junzhuo
Cang Qing crouched like a ghost atop the theater's towering black steel beams, looking down at Chu Junzhuo below.
With just a few minutes left before the performance officially began, he stood by the aisle, talking quietly with his family.
The woman holding his arm was an extremely beautiful noblewoman whose face showed no signs of aging. She was occasionally amused by Chu Junzhuo, and when she covered her mouth and chuckled, her huge pearl earrings swayed slightly.
Cang Qing took a deep breath, drew his wand from his waist, and held it up in front of him to cast a spell.
The noise suddenly became clear.
"...Don't worry, Mom, when have I ever made a mistake?"
"It's not that I'm worried about you, it's that I'm worried about your brother. It's his first time performing on stage. What if he embarrasses himself? Today is also his birthday. What if it leaves him with psychological trauma?"
"I will take care of him. Besides, Jiaozi is already twelve years old, so don't always treat him like a child."
"How can twelve years old not be a child? Aren't you a child at twenty-two?"
"He plays the piano very well, so have some faith in your son."
"..."
Ordinary family conversations seem to have no value in being eavesdropped on.
Hidden in the shadows, Cang Qing pursed his lips, his gaze fixed on the noblewoman's face, not looking away for even a second.
Suddenly, the lady's eyes lit up: "Your father is here."
A middle-aged man hurried up from behind, and the lady immediately went to greet him and pulled him to her side.
"Why are you in such a hurry? Your forehead is covered in sweat, and you haven't even changed your clothes?" she said, taking out a handkerchief to wipe the man's sweat.
The middle-aged man irritably brushed her hand away: "I have business... I've invited business clients to the show, don't cause me any trouble."
The lady fell silent.
Chu Junzhuo greeted him respectfully, "Father."
"Okay, do your best." The middle-aged man casually patted his eldest son on the shoulder. "Your younger brother is always clamoring to perform on stage, so you should mentor him today."
Cang Qing stopped eavesdropping and hid behind a pillar.
She recognized the middle-aged man; whenever she frequently browsed Twitter or watched TV, she would inevitably see a deluge of discussions about him.
"...Chu Kai, CEO of Xianmeng Group." Shen Caihua whispered to Yan Xi, "Let me tell you, my idol is so low-key in the academy, but when it comes to family wealth, there are very few rich second-generation heirs who are more extravagant than him. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed that there is such a handsome and rich person in the world."
Yan Xi gave a perfunctory "hmm," not paying any attention to the gossip at all.
Her peripheral vision remained fixed on Cang Qing, and she subconsciously wanted to take a step.
Where are you going?
Before he could take a step, Shen Caihua grabbed him.
"Huh? I..."
Shen Caihua interrupted her: "Quick, quick, my crush is here! Check if my makeup is ruined!"
At this moment, Chu Junzhuo bid farewell to his family and walked towards the backstage area.
"Classmate Chu!"
Shen Caihua suddenly called out, and the latter stopped and looked over.
Holding Shen Caihua tightly, Yan Xi had no choice but to suppress the urge to chase after Cang Qing and forced a smile.
Chu Junzhuo walked towards them: "You are... Shen Caihua?"
"Do you remember me?"
Shen Caihua's eyes lit up, then she nudged Yan Xi with her elbow and said in a casual manner, "We're working part-time, and we didn't expect to meet you here today because it's your performance."
"Yes, what a coincidence."
Chu Junzhuo responded politely, nodding to Yan Xi, "Hello, Yan Xi."
When they tried to strike up a conversation, Yan Xi just nodded haphazardly, not paying any attention to what they were actually talking about.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see that Cang Qing had already left his original position and leaped onto the steel frame at the top of the theater, disappearing from her sight.
Yan Xi's brows furrowed even more.
That ill-intentioned fellow came to the concert late at night and was sneaking around on the beams spying on us. What was he up to?
Could it be a conspiracy being secretly plotted against the producer?
Feeling a sense of mission as a "producer's reserve assistant," Yanxi felt she should go after him to check on him. She checked her pockets and calmed down.
Given her magical skills, it would be difficult for her to hide from that guy; she probably wouldn't even last five seconds before being discovered.
Or is it better to confront each other directly?
She was hesitating when a hand suddenly reached out and waved in front of her eyes.
"Lulu?"
"Uh, I'm fine, what's wrong?" Yan Xi came back to her senses.
"Did you hear what we were talking about just now?" Shen Caihua asked, somewhat reproachfully.
"What?"
"I'm a guy... cough, Chu said that he's the general director of our Seventh Academy's program in this ten-school joint performance, and he invited us to participate. What do you think?"
"Go if you want."
Yan Xi casually replied, her gaze then uncontrollably drifting towards the dome.
Snapped!
I got a tap on the forehead.
She winced and covered her forehead, watching Shen Caihua's face loom large before her eyes, almost touching her nose: "What do you mean I can go whenever I want? You have to come too."
Yan Xi's somewhat slow-thinking brain finally realized something was wrong.
"Me too?" she asked again to confirm.
Shen Caihua nodded vigorously: "Yes!"
……
Cang Qing was still staring at Chu Junzhuo's mother.
To be precise, she should be called a stepmother.
Otherwise, Chu Junzhuo's father should have been arrested and electrocuted to death.
The young wife stood by her husband's side, effortlessly greeting every guest who came to their son's concert, her pride practically written all over her face.
A little while later, a little boy in a suit ran out from backstage and jumped into her arms.
She lovingly stroked the boy's head, and her husband beside her laughed. The family of three walked away happily together.
I don't know how much time has passed.
It was probably when the lights in the hall dimmed that Cang Qing suddenly came to his senses.
What am I doing?
She was slightly disappointed for a moment, then stopped watching, and with a flash, quietly left the concert hall and landed on the quiet street outside the theater.
It was completely dark by then, and a cool breeze brushed against my face, dispelling some of the restlessness in my heart.
Cang Qing deactivated his transformation in a secluded corner, tidied his bangs which had been ruffled by the night wind, and prepared to go home.
"Is the investigation over?"
The sudden sound startled her.
Zhong Ai turned her head and found Cheng Chen standing not far behind her.
"elder brother!"
She shouted angrily and strode fiercely toward him.
"Why do you always appear and disappear so mysteriously?"
"You've been feeling down ever since you came back from the trade fair, so I was thinking of taking you out to relax."
Cheng Chen waved to her, then turned around decisively: "Let's go."
"Where to?"
Zhong Ai followed closely behind.
Cheng Chen slowed his pace to wait for her to catch up. As he walked, he reached into his pocket and rummaged around for a moment before pulling out two elegant invitation cards.
"Coincidentally, a business partner of the company gave me two invitations, so I'll invite you to the concert."
When Zhong Ai saw the three words "Chu Junzhuo" embossed in gold on the invitation, she froze in shock.
