Chapter 25: Victory
Chapter 25: Victory
The two sides collided, and the powerful impact caused the guards with shields to instinctively take a step back with their left feet.
The guards braced their shoulders against the shields to enhance their resistance.
Fanta roared, "Ready!"
Da Vinci immediately understood Fanta's meaning and snatched the bone gun from the militiaman next to him.
The guards slowly revealed gaps in their shields, and Leonardo da Vinci shouted, "Thrust!"
The bone spear immediately pierced through the gap between the shields.
The goblin that struck the shield was immediately pierced, and blood splattered everywhere.
The two sides engaged in a final, frantic battle, but the little goblin was destined to be slaughtered by the well-equipped guard of knights.
Not to mention the endless stream of criminals stabbing him from behind, the massacre didn't last long. One of the goblin heroes leaped high and smashed his axe into Fanta's shield.
The moment the terrifying force struck, Fanta quickly twisted his shield to deflect the impact and swung his sword backhand.
The goblin hero swiftly raised his other hand, wielding a short sword, to parry, letting out a roar.
The next second, a rusty short sword suddenly pierced its back.
The goblin hero was stunned, and Fanta was stunned too.
They all looked at the attacker.
It was a large goblin with a ferocious expression, but unlike other goblins, it didn't have fangs, and its face was much gentler than that of other goblins.
"Kill them! Avenge them!"
After the big goblin finished shouting, he turned around and charged at the other goblins. The remaining goblin hero, seeing his companion die, did not hesitate and turned to run away.
But then a bone spear shot towards it with tremendous force. The red-haired goblin hero couldn't dodge in time and could only raise his weapon to block.
The terrifying force sent it flying. Before the red-haired goblin could even stand up, Ron raised a heavy crossbow in each hand.
shhhhh!
The crossbow bolt struck the red-haired goblin hero with pinpoint accuracy.
Fanta wanted to finish him off, but the goblin who had stabbed him in the back appeared in front of the goblin hero at some point, frantically slashing at his neck with his short sword.
It took more than a dozen blows to finally sever the goblin hero's head.
At this moment, Ron also noticed that dozens of goblins had suddenly turned against him and started attacking the surrounding goblins indiscriminately.
This scene made Ron frown slightly, but he still gave the order.
"Don't attack those goblins."
Fanta and Da Vinci understood each other and led their men to attack the goblin camp.
The battle lasted only half an hour. Without the command of the goblin hero, the goblins were utterly vulnerable and lacked even the will to resist. Especially after the big goblin betrayed them, they began to flee in large numbers.
"Stop the pursuit!" Ron raised his hand, signaling not to chase the fleeing goblins, but to surround the remaining thirty-two exhausted goblins.
The goblin who killed the goblin hero glanced at the humans around him with his blood-red eyes, dropped his weapon, and leaned back, looking as if he were ready to be slaughtered, which made Fanta and Da Vinci's expressions even stranger.
Ron walked over to Fender and Leonardo da Vinci.
"Is Fanta alright?"
Fanta patted the shoulder armor on his shoulder, which had been dented by the goblin hero. Without this armor, Fanta would have been seriously injured, if not killed, today.
"It's good that you're alright!" Ron smiled and patted Fanta on the shoulder, then turned to look at Leonardo da Vinci.
Leonardo da Vinci was covered in blood and had multiple wounds, which made Ron frown slightly.
"Old Hall, do you still have magic?"
Old Hall shook his head helplessly. He saw through Ron's plan, but he had no intention of helping.
Ron tore his clothes into strips and began bandaging Leonardo's wounds, causing all the criminals to stare wide-eyed at the scene.
"I have witnessed your bravery. From now on, Da Vinci will be one of my knights, Ron Ashwood's follower. You will receive the rewards you deserve. Now, focus on recovering from your injuries."
Leonardo da Vinci's eyes suddenly welled up with tears.
He risked his life for so many noble lords, yet he was never even given a second glance. Instead, they mocked him as an inferior being. But now, he easily obtained the knighthood he had always dreamed of. It all felt like a dream.
"My lord!"
"We can talk about it after the knighthood ceremony. You should focus on recovering first!"
Ron's tone was gentler than ever before.
Leonardo da Vinci's voice choked with emotion as he gave Ron a knightly salute.
Ron shook his head: "Your knightly salute is very poor. Go back and practice with Doron properly."
Da Vinci nodded respectfully, and the other criminals also looked at Ron with shining eyes.
"Can you still fight?"
The criminals and militiamen shouted.
"able!"
Becoming a knight was the dream of almost everyone present; who wouldn't want to be a knight?
"Let's clear out the goblin camp first and see what they can leave us, then we'll head to Wenger territory."
Half an hour later, Fanta led the remaining troops to the edge of the open space in front of the gate, but did not go any further. His formation needed to be kept intact, and who knew if Lord Wenger would rashly attack them.
"stop!"
Fanta raised his sword.
His guards and militia lined up on either side of him, bone spears laid flat, and crossbowmen reloaded their guns.
Behind them was the flattened goblin camp, wooden crates in the supply yard overturned, sacks torn, and dry, hard grains scattered all over the ground.
Some of the sacks didn't contain food; instead, they were filled with broken weapon parts and mining tools.
Ron walked down the hill, with old Hall following behind.
As I walked past Leonardo da Vinci, I paused. Da Vinci was kneeling on one knee, the wound on his left shoulder had been tightly bound with rags, the bleeding had stopped, but his entire left arm was swollen and thicker than usual.
"Can we still fight?" Ron asked.
"If my left hand doesn't work, my right hand will," Leonardo da Vinci said, standing up.
Ron nodded slightly.
Fanta approached, the blood on his longsword still wet.
"Young master, the siege force has been routed, and the remnants have fled north. Should we pursue them?"
"No need to chase anymore, we still have over thirty big goblin prisoners! Now look at my new subjects."
Ron walked to the gate of the village.
The gate to Wenger's stronghold slowly opened, its hinges rusted and making a screeching sound.
The burly man walked out of the village gate, covered in blood, it was hard to tell if it was his or the goblins'. Behind him were more than twenty guards who were still able to stand, almost all of them were wounded.
He looked at Ron, his lips moved, but he only said two words in the end.
Thank you.
Ron glanced at him. He was nearly 1.9 meters tall, with broad shoulders and a pair of calloused hands gripping a battle axe with a blunt blade covered in dried black blood.
"Are your men still able to fight?"
The burly man was taken aback. He hadn't expected the other person's first words to be this, instead of pleasantries or announcing their identity.
"They can fight! All the ones who can fight are here."
Ron nodded.
"Put them under guard first. From now on, this will be my new territory."
Fanta quickly led his men to surround the entire group. Just as Wenger's men were about to resist, the burly man swiftly raised his hands.
"Don't lay a hand on us, we surrender, we are willing to submit."
Ron glanced at the burly man with great surprise, not expecting him to be so sensible.
"Where is your lord?"
They escaped!
