Light Barrier

Chapter 73

Chapter 73

“That’s pretty much what happened.”

A gust of wind blew by.

The curtains swayed gently.

The window creaked openly slightly, letting in the faint chill of autumn into the room. Evening had fallen, and with no lights on in the room, it was dark and somewhat oppressive.

Hu Danian observed the scene in the room in silence.

It was hard to believe that a terrifying explosion had just happened here. According to Gu Shen’s description, the yield of the explosives could have easily leveled half of Lipu Street. Yet, with so much firepower, it didn’t even tear a piece of paper in this room.

This room remained clean and tidy, and it was so quiet that people could fall asleep.

Seated at the table, Gu Shen said softly, “In short, the situation has been resolved. There’s no need to dwell on the details. You can report to Cui Zhongcheng like this: I used my ability to suppress the explosion.”

Hu Danian looked meaningfully at the young man sitting across the table, whose face was expressing gentleness and sincerity. He had completely changed his first impression of Gu Shen... He had thought of him as just a rookie with some cleverness who had been lucky enough to gain Mr. Cui’s attention.

Now, he felt that none of this was a coincidence. He was definitely a monster-level transcendent secretly trained.

How powerful would a transcendent have to be to suppress this level of explosive force?

In any case, it was beyond his capabilities!

“Don’t worry, little monster. I’m not interested in your information. I’m only responsible for completing Mr. Cui’s mission.”

Hu Danian clicked his tongue and sighed. “The River Shoal serial murders made me unable to sleep well for several days. Today, I can finally rest easy.”

He took out an old-looking bronze safe. The safe wasn’t large, and an adult could easily wrap their arms around it. It was just big enough to hold the small stone sculpture. After opening it and taking a closer look, one would find that the inside of the bronze safe was coated with a red crystal-like coating.

He put on a pair of black gloves, which also had a thin layer of red coating on the surface.

“What is this?” Gu Shen asked with a frown.

“The coating material is ‘red silver’, a high-logic material,” Hu Danian replied succinctly. He carefully picked up the stone sculpture and placed it in the safe, moving extremely slowly and cautiously. It wasn’t until he closed the safe that he heaved a sigh of relief.

He patiently explained in detail, “Different sealed objects need different methods of storage. Sealed objects like the Solemn Stone Sculpture, which emits malice autonomously and cannot be tamed, need to be completely isolated. Generally speaking, for sealed objects below Class A, red silver can suppress the transcendental characteristics.”

In fact, upon hearing about the high-logic material, Gu Shen roughly understood the principle.

Transcendence was a chaotic force that destroyed logic.

And high-logic materials... were most likely special substances that suppressed transcendental characteristics.

“What about Class A and above?” Gu Shen asked.

Energy in the material world was conserved.

The amount of mental power consumed to suppress the high-yield explosives was... immense.

When Gu Shen wielded the ruler, immersed in the state of domination, he didn’t feel anything. It wasn’t until the power of the ruler dissipated and the fanatical believer of the Eternal Foundation was blasted into nothingness that he felt something was wrong.

Standing on a mountaintop, the higher one stood, the more painful the fall from the clouds.

Three or four hours had passed before the soreness slowly dissipated.

However, it had to be said that... Gu Shen’s cultivation of the Jingzhe Breathing Technique had greatly improved his mental power. If he had used the ruler like this twenty days ago, he would have immediately fallen into a deep sleep after falling from the clouds.

Gu Shen slowly reached out and brought a piece of white paper that had not been destroyed in the explosion in front of him.

He turned on the table lamp, illuminating the table.

There was a drawing on the paper. It was just a few strokes outlining an innocent girl holding a book.

Gu Shen looked at the simple sketch he had drawn and smiled gently.

His fingers slowly touched the girl on the paper. It’s been ten days... I wonder how you’re doing.

Touching the drawing, Gu Shen calmed his mind and quickly entered a state of meditation.

He had already grown accustomed to entering the Deep Waters at any time. Here, there was a space that belonged only to him, where he could return to his quietest, most primal mental state.

Every day, he would meditate quietly for a while and leave some of his thoughts in the mental network of the Deep Waters.

In this era, few people kept diaries anymore.

But Gu Shen was an exception.

[November 17th, clear skies. It’s the tenth day since Chu Ling stopped connecting. I hope everything is going well for her and she’s safe.

A lot happened today. The mass insomnia case on Lipu Street has been solved, the Solemn Stone Sculpture has been retrieved, and the out-of-control individual has been punished.

Cui Zhongcheng’s guess was right. It’s the Eternal Foundation that wants to kill me, and they won’t give up easily. If I don’t catch the mastermind, there might be more waves. I can’t just sit and wait for death. I have to take action...]

At this point, Gu Shen’s train of thought became somewhat sluggish.

Someone knocked on the door.

It should be Sister Xin or Qu Shui waking up.

Gu Shen clenched his fists, feeling the soreness had almost faded.

He opened his eyes and sat up straight. “Please come in.”
