Chapter 474 Traveling Alone
Chapter 474 Traveling Alone
squelching noises filled the dungeon for multiple kilometers as william and the others dealt with the quake slimes one by one. their oozing figure and high resistance to most attacks made them difficult to kill, but their ability to attack was quite pathetic.
unless one came into physical contact with the quake slimes, there was no risk of injury. their only ranged attack, which was a form of earthquake spell, could hardly be considered a spell. even if one wasn't paying attention, they would merely fall to the tenth floor.
the best part of the 11th floor was that each quake slime dropped two quake dungeon gems instead of one. in a matter of two hours, the group had collected a total of over six hundred gems, which would be split equally.
while william and the others were collecting quake gems, several groups passed them and disappeared down the path towards the 12th floor. most of these groups consisted of third-year students, their attitudes much more serious than the three male students from before.
in fact, most of them hardly cast a glance in jeron or william's direction. they either teleported around their battles or directly ran through the fight, unbothered by the threat of the quake slimes.
upon closer inspection, william realized that at least one student of every group emitted an aura equivalent to the initial deity realm. they were even stronger than the three students on the tenth floor!
"what's going on?" william asked when the fifth group of third years passed them by.
jeron shook his head, "this is the first time i've seen it. something must have happened on the 13th floor, or maybe the rumors are true and there's something interesting on floor 14..."
"do we want to go check it out?" william's eyes glistened at the mention of loot.
"are you tired of living?" jeron looked at william strangely. "you just saw how many third years there are. can you fight someone in the initial deity realm? humans and magical beasts are different.
while beasts have a limited intelligence, humans can scheme and plot. we're no match for someone at that level, especially not from our own academy. we can wait until they're gone and check it out."
down a long hallway, william saw a group of three third-year students clearing out wave after wave of quake slimes. colorful spells illuminated the room as dozens of quake slimes were eliminated in one go, twice as many quake dungeon gems falling to the floor.
as the group moved forward, waves of quake slimes filled in from the rear, blocking the students' retreat. judging by their uncaring expressions, however, it didn't seem like the students intended to go back. they pressed forward and continued to cast spells at the next wave.
when they passed over the quake gems, one of the students carrying a large backpack leaned over and scooped the gems into his bag. he cast a flame wall spell behind him to block the advancing quake slimes, then continued forward with the group.
william became slightly jealous at that point. the third-year group took efficiency to a whole new level, as if they were big bosses casually sweeping through the dungeon. by the time they turned at the end of the hallway, the group of third years had earned over five hundred quake dungeon gems.
william's face turned serious as he used the effect of the hunter talent to secretly mark the group. an aura of light secretly enveloped the group of third years, allowing william to follow them until a range of ten thousand kilometers.
once he was outside their detection range, william reached for the abyssal weapon shifter and turned it into a long polearm. he spun the weapon a few times around both arms, then performed a wide arc that slashed through four quake slimes.
their bodies separated into two halves and reformed again immediately but were struck by a secondary attack that split them apart once more. with william's weapon sharpness talent, the polearm wasn't slowed down at all when slicing through the slimes, allowing him to continuously strike without pausing.
eight quake dungeon gems fell to the ground while william kept moving forward. he switched from polearm to staff, spinning it in front of him at incredible speeds, knocking back the next waves of quake slimes while pressing forward.
continue your journey with empire
with the forcefield preventing the slimes from coming in contact with him, william moved forward like this throughout the thirteenth floor at a considerable pace. using the navigation talent, he maintained the same distance between him and the third years just ahead, remaining unnoticed for the entirety of the trip.
that's it! william exclaimed in his mind as his navigation radar picked up the stairwell in the distance.
judging by the presence of torches near the stairs, william guessed that someone had indeed located the stairs to the 14th floor. he approached cautiously, avoiding a series of traps that had yet to be disabled.
