Chapter 208: Prelude To The Great Flood 9 - Michael And Lucifer
Noah’s dedication to his divine mandate was unwavering. Day after day, he and his family toiled under the harsh sun and through the cold nights, their hands roughened and backs bent from the labor. The ark began to take shape, a colossal structure of wood and pitch that loomed over the landscape, a silent testament to Noah’s faith and obedience.
However, Noah’s unwavering commitment did not go unnoticed by his neighbors and the inhabitants of the nearby settlements. They gathered around the construction site, watching with a mixture of curiosity, amusement, and scorn. The sight of an enormous boat being built on dry land, far from any significant body of water, struck them as absurd.
"Look at the madman!" a farmer jeered, pointing at Noah as he hoisted a heavy beam into place. "Building a ship in the middle of nowhere. Does he think the rains will come to him?"
Another man, a merchant with a cynical smile, shook his head. "He claims to hear the voice of God," he said, chuckling. "I’d say he’s been out in the sun too long."
Children joined in the mockery, throwing stones and laughing as Noah and his sons worked. "Hey Noah," a young boy called out, "when’s the big flood coming? Will it be enough to fill your bathtub?"
Noah, though aware of the ridicule, remained focused on his task. He knew that their scorn stemmed from ignorance and disbelief, and he bore their taunts with quiet dignity. His sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, occasionally cast angry glances at the hecklers, but they followed their father’s example, refusing to be drawn into conflict.
Noah’s wife, Naamah, supported him steadfastly, her presence a source of comfort and strength. She managed their household and provided for their needs, her quiet faith mirroring that of her husband. Together, they embodied a family united in purpose and devotion, despite the hostility that surrounded them.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the unfinished ark, Noah paused to rest. He stood back, surveying the progress they had made. The ark’s skeletal frame was now clearly visible, its massive ribs curving skyward like the bones of some ancient, slumbering beast.
In that moment of respite, Noah felt a familiar, comforting presence. He closed his eyes, allowing the divine connection to wash over him. God spoke to him once more, reaffirming the importance of his task and the promise of salvation for the faithful.
Ascending the tower, Michael was met with eerie silence, the shadows whispering secrets of dark power. He reached the pinnacle, stepping onto the platform where Lucifer awaited, flanked by two women—Lilith, the first wife of Adam, and another he did not recognize.
"Michael," Lucifer greeted, his voice dripping with mockery. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"
Michael’s gaze was steely as he faced his brother. "You know why I’m here, Lucifer. Azazel’s retreat is only the beginning. We need to discuss the next steps."
Lucifer’s smirk widened, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Always so serious, brother. Can’t you see I’m enjoying my respite?"
Michael ignored the taunt and turned his attention to the women beside Lucifer. "Lilith," he acknowledged with a nod, his tone respectful despite their complicated history. "It’s been a long time."
Lilith looked at Michael with curiosity, recognizing his name but not his face. "Michael," she repeated thoughtfully. "I’ve heard of you, but we have never met."
Michael then shifted his gaze to the unfamiliar woman. "And who might you be?"
Fang Hua stepped forward, her expression neutral. "I am Fang Hua," she said simply. "An ally to Lucifer." She tilted her head slightly, studying Michael’s features. "You look identical to Lucifer," she remarked. "It’s almost uncanny."
Lucifer laughed, a sound that held no warmth. "We are, after all, brothers. Though I dare say, the resemblance is only skin-deep."
Michael studied Fang Hua for a moment, sensing the power that radiated from her. "Very well," he said. "Let’s not waste time. Azazel’s ambitions threaten not just the Earth, but all of creation. We need to strategize and prepare for his next move."
