Chapter 26 Dark "Werewolf": Killing, Assassination, and Counter-Assassination
Chapter 26 Dark "Werewolf": Killing, Assassination, and Counter-Assassination
Pitch black and quiet.
Only the faint light seeping from afar outlined a blurry shape; it was difficult to discern the form beyond a step in front of one.
Hank suppressed his breathing, the wound burning with pain. He gritted his teeth and endured it, his mind racing:
That kid was with a weak female mage, but he still had the strength to fight.
The advantage lies with me!
Let the rat monster entangle them first, and once both sides are exhausted, then...
The wind suddenly picked up!
It interrupted Hank's train of thought.
Something is approaching—is it that kid? Or that wretched beast?
Hank didn't have time to think, and following the sound, he swiftly thrust his sword forward!
It has a soft yet resilient feel, like a human... but the texture doesn't feel right.
He suddenly drew his sword, the strong smell of blood already reaching his nose.
It was the still-warm body of a teammate.
"Damn it! We've fallen for their trap!" Hank spat, a sense of unease rising within him.
Claws whistled through the air on the right, while blades hissed on the left; in the darkness, two grim reapers simultaneously bared their fangs.
He rolled around in a disheveled state, still with a bloody gash on his shoulder.
They attacked and retreated immediately, their footsteps quickly disappearing into the darkness and merging into the shadows.
Hank crouched low and held his breath.
Clearly, the two people and the rat have now "reached a consensus".
Use the darkness to wear down your opponent!
Opportunity always favors the patient and patient.
Just then, a suppressed groan of pain came from not far away.
caught you!
Hank's eyes sharpened, and without hesitation, he took a flat bottle from his waist.
In the darkness, as Xia Lin carried Eileen on his back, the girl took a soft breath.
What bound her was not rope, but something transparent and flexible like glue.
The rope tightened around Eileen's wound on her side, causing her to gasp in pain.
"You're too tight..."
Xia Lin: "..."
"Just bear with it."
Xia Lin whispered, "It can also cast spells?"
"...once, at most." Eileen's voice was weak but clear.
"That's enough. Wait for my signal." The female mage had become Xia Lin's secret weapon.
Before the words were even finished, a whooshing sound came straight at them!
Even with the aid of night vision, Xia Lin could only make out the outline of a thrown object in his haste.
He brandished his sword to stab, when a pungent, burnt smell suddenly filled his nostrils—oh no!
The blade hastily veered off course, and the fiery glue in the flat bottle finally shifted its direction and exploded in mid-air on one side!
boom!
The kerosene splattered everywhere and ignited upon contact with air, instantly illuminating several feet around the two men!
exposed!
Almost simultaneously, the vengeful figure pounced out from the shadows at the edge of the firelight, heading straight for Xia Lin!
"Attack!" Xia Lin roared, though the flames burning on his arm were not visible.
Eileen gritted her teeth, raised her hand, and unleashed a blinding burst of light from the Light Spell!
A burst of light erupted behind Xia Lin, like a miniature sun exploding in the passageway for a moment.
The attacker screamed in agony as his eyes were instantly blinded by the bright light, causing him to stagger.
Hank, who was attacking, was also blinded by the flash and instinctively closed his eyes and turned his head away.
The light then went out, and Eileen collapsed, exhausted.
But this moment was enough.
Xia Lin spun around, his longsword piercing the rat monster's gaping mouth and going straight to the back of its head! With a flick and twist of his wrist, the rat monster's body convulsed violently before collapsing limply.
He drew his sword and charged without hesitation toward the direction Hank flashed back in his memory!
A flash of light streaked across the darkness, leaving a straight line of fire.
Hank had just recovered from the dizziness when he vaguely saw a fiery figure rushing towards him with a sword. He hurriedly raised his sword to block.
Clang!
Amidst the sparks flying, Xia Lin's sword tip deflected, still slicing across his right arm and carving a deep, bone-revealing gash!
Hank roared in pain and retreated violently, disappearing into the darkness once more.
The burning collagen illuminated a small circle of the ground, making the surrounding shadows appear even darker.
Extinguish the flames on the arm.
Xia Lin leaned against the wall and slowly adjusted her breathing.
"Has he...left?" Eileen asked weakly.
"I don't know." Xia Lin's gaze swept across the darkness. "They might be waiting for us to make a move."
Hiding in a corner, Hank trembled as he pulled out a healing potion and drank it down.
A cooling sensation went down my throat, the numbness and itching in the wound subsided, and the pain eased slightly.
His eyes were red.
We lost our teammates, got injured twice, and used expensive potions... If we don't kill these two, this trip will be a complete loss!
In the darkness, Hank moved like a wolf, silently approaching the two.
As the firelight dimmed, he could barely make out a figure by the wall, who seemed to be tending to his wound.
It's now!
He leaped up, his broadsword tearing through the air as he thrust forward!
Just as the sword was about to strike him, he saw a pair of eyes struggling to suppress their fear, and a scream that tore through the darkness.
"Xia Lin!!"
Hank's pupils contracted sharply. Why is there only the female mage?! Where did that kid go?
A sudden gust of wind rose behind my head!
Something's wrong! We've been tricked!
He didn't have time to think about when Xia Lin had gotten behind him; the situation was critical, and he only hoped to cut off his own tail to survive.
Left? Right? He instinctively turned to the side, preparing to take the blow with his arm.
In an instant, he had already planned to sacrifice an arm in exchange for a chance to escape.
But he immediately realized something was wrong.
The sound of wind breaking came from—
Above my head?!
Hank looked up in horror, and a sticky, transparent substance flashed before his eyes. A dark shadow crashed down from the top of the tunnel like a falcon falling!
Click!Click!
The dull thud of breaking ribs and the excruciating pain of a collapsed chest cavity came at the same time.
Hank was slammed to the ground, and a mouthful of scalding blood mixed with pieces of internal organs gushed out of his mouth.
Immediately afterwards, the cold tip of the sword pierced through his back, penetrating his muscles, shattering his spine, and piercing his heart, before finally bursting out of his chest with a bloody blade.
He tried to struggle, but his spine was no longer able to provide support.
Damn mages and adventurers...
Finally, Hank opened his mouth, blood and foam gushed out, and his vision quickly went dark.
Darkness completely swallowed his consciousness.
Xia Lin pressed down on his gradually limp body with his knees and slowly withdrew his sword.
Blood spread out in the afterglow of the flames, casting a small patch of dark red.
Silence returned to the sewers.
The only sounds were the faint crackling of the dying flames and the distant, rustling of an unknown creature that had caught the scent of a "wild feast."
The afterglow of the battle slowly dissipated in the humid air.
Xia Lin flicked the bloodstains off the tip of his sword and glanced at the messy passage.
Besides the rat monster, there were two gradually cooling bodies lying on the ground.
He stepped forward, a slight thought stirring within him.
Sure enough, several faint white orbs of light emerged from the rat monster's corpse, as well as from Hank and the wanderer.
The two halos emanating from the human corpses made Xia Lin pause in his movements.
This was the first time he had ever seen "fall" from an intelligent species like "humans".
It seems that the criteria for this cheat ability are not simply based on species, but are related to "extraordinary". Anyone with a certain level of strength is likely to trigger it.
"They treat everyone equally," Xia Lin thought to himself, without immediately drawing his own.
The current environment is unsafe, and Eileen is nearby, so it's not a good time to investigate carefully.
He approached the three clusters of light without making a sound, and they were as if they were being absorbed by an invisible hand.
Next came the more tangible gains.
Xia Lin and Eileen quickly began to "clean up the battlefield".
