Chapter 10 Featured Entries
Along the way, he recognized several plants described in the "Encyclopedia of Magical Plants," including the Red Blood Grass that could stop bleeding, the Mandrake Grass that could break curses, and the Rainbow Lotus that was used to make magic potions.
Xia Lin only carefully picked a few Red Blood Grass plants to keep as medicine in his healing kit. Although the latter two were more valuable, there were traces of monsters nearby, so he had to give up on them.
We avoided several menacing-looking monsters along the way, and although we took a longer route, we were safe and sound.
Before he knew it, he had arrived at the place where the Moon Tear Grass grew.
A shallow cave located on the shady side, with a shallow pool of clear water in the middle of the cave.
Moon Tears Grass prefers shady and damp environments, so it grows in clusters among the rocks by the pool, its leaves shimmering with a faint blue light.
Xia Lin took off his backpack and was about to collect the materials when the surface of the pool next to him suddenly stirred.
Four or five water bullets shot towards us!
He rolled to the side to avoid them, and when he turned around, he saw several transparent, jelly-like creatures leap out of the water and land with a thud on the stone surface.
[Serial Number: 008 - Slime]
Appearance: A translucent, gelatinous, spherical organism, approximately 30-50 cm in diameter, with a texture similar to cooled gel. Special variants exist.
Personality: Acts on instinct, lacks group consciousness, but may gather in high magic areas to form a slime pool.
Danger level: Moderate. A pea-sized core floats inside the body; destroying it will cause it to disintegrate.
Common habitats: Prefers dark and damp environments, such as dungeons, mazes, and swamps.
Appendix: Information on Mutant Individuals
Large acid slime: secretes strong acid that can dissolve iron, commonly found in abandoned mines.
Crystallized Slime: Its core transforms into mineral crystals, and it generates temporary armor on its body surface after consuming metal.
King Slime: A golden individual with a diameter of over ten meters, suspected to be the ultimate form of collective consciousness, recorded only in ancient documents.
These few are clearly ordinary water-type slimes, which are relatively easy to deal with.
Xia Lin dodged the water bullets that kept coming, and when he couldn't avoid them, he used his small round shield to block them.
Bang bang bang!
Water bullets hit the shield surface, splashing up clear water droplets.
The impact was moderate; as long as it wasn't targeted by concentrated fire, it wouldn't cause any major harm.
Seizing the opportunity, he stepped forward and thrust his longsword forward, accurately striking the faintly glowing core within a slime.
Clap!
The core shattered, and the slime exploded into a puddle of water, wetting the ground.
This process was repeated, and within minutes, the small group of slimes had all turned into puddles of water on the edge of the pool.
Slime Orb +2
Xia Lin drew two entries in a row, which allowed her to expand the vocabulary database again.
[Obtained the entry: "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" (White)]
About Me Reincarnated as a Slime (White): Bedtime Story of a Baby Slime
Comment: Is there a "cute king" here too?
[Acquired entry: Compulsive Collecting Obsession (White)]
effect:
An irresistible urge to collect shiny little things.
Summary:
It's essentially a slime, but psychologically it's a jewelry store owner. Its purpose in life is to search for collectibles in caves, even if those are just bottle caps and rusty nails.
Evaluation:
"It chased me halfway through the cave, and finally I threw it a button, which it happily wrapped up and rolled away."
—An adventurer who learned an important life lesson
As Xia Lin had predicted, he wasn't always lucky enough to get a high-level green attribute.
My own dictionary has now added another type.
Suddenly, a strange change occurred in the center of the pool; the water surface churned, as if something was rising from the depths.
Then a blue slime, much larger than its kind, burst out of the water.
Judging from its appearance, it is a mutated individual that is not included in the encyclopedia.
Xia Lin felt a chill run down his spine. His luck was truly terrible; he had even stumbled upon such a rare species.
"Can we make up?"
Rumors circulated that the mutated slime was actually quite intelligent and capable of simple verbal communication, so Xia Lin tried to ease the misunderstanding.
Unfortunately, rumors are just rumors. There may be moderate slimes, but this mutated slime is not one of them.
His response was a barrage of sharp ice arrows.
Xia Lin raised his shield to block, and the ice arrow struck the small round iron shield, exploding into a burst of chilling air.
The biting cold spread up his arm, making half of his body stiff.
If we remain here in this stalemate, we will freeze to death before long.
He forced himself to observe calmly and think of a solution.
Xia Lin quickly discovered the key: every time the monster released an ice arrow, its body would visibly shrink by one size, and then it would move to the edge of the pool to absorb water and restore its size.
Spells require water as a medium and a source of replenishment...
A thought flashed through Xia Lin's mind, and he stopped being on the defensive. He picked up a stone that had fallen to the ground and threw it at the mutated slime with all his might.
Although the stone did not cause any damage, it successfully enraged the intelligent monster.
It was indeed lured away from the pool and clumsily rolled toward him.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xia Lin quickly scraped away the thick ice that had formed on the shield with the blade of his sword, reducing his weight while he began to circle around his opponent.
His movement skills were slightly less effective in the cave, but they still helped him narrowly avoid several volleys of ice arrows.
As they moved further away from the pool, the ice arrows fired by the mutated slime indeed began to shrink in size and their power greatly diminished.
It seemed to sense something was wrong and began to turn around.
Xia Lin didn't allow it to escape. He caught up in a few steps and launched a sneak attack from behind, his longsword piercing straight into the glowing core inside its body!
clang!
Just before the sword tip touched the core, it was blocked by a layer of ice shield.
The biting cold air spread along the sword, and Xia Lin's entire arm almost went numb.
In a moment of crisis, he quickly grabbed a piece of fallen rock from the ground and smashed it down on the end of the sword hilt with all his might!

The sword thrust forward, the ice shield shattered, and the core broke in response.
The mutated slime's enormous body suddenly froze, then disintegrated like a melting ice sculpture, eventually turning into a puddle of water, leaving behind only a blue stone about the size of a thumb.
Xia Lin picked up the stone; it was icy cold to the touch, and he could clearly feel the energy contained within it.
He put the stone away, planning to return to the Adventurers' Guild and inquire about its value at the shops that buy magical materials.
A ball of light with a shimmering blue halo rose from the dissipating slime.
"This time it feels different from usual..." Xia Lin murmured.
Touch the ball of light and extract again.
A prompt appears before your eyes:
[Triggering a premium-level 'two-way draw']
You can choose one of the following two blue entries.
[Entry A: Slime Mimicry (Blue)]
Effect: Consumes mental energy to simulate some physiological characteristics of monsters that have been encountered and are somewhat understood. Currently simulating targets: Goblins, Slimes. The simulation effect is positively correlated with the level of understanding of the target.
Additional: Cold Resistance +2
[Entry B: Giant Slime (Blue)]
Effect: Consumes stamina to cause the user's size to increase for a certain period of time (with an upper limit). The increase is directly proportional to the stamina consumed.
Additional: Cold Resistance +2
Blue attribute! Xia Lin was overjoyed; the attribute was indeed much stronger than the previous green attribute.
But the joy was quickly replaced by the difficulty of choosing, even though both have cold resistance bonuses and each has its own strengths.
