Chapter 92: Making a killing!
Chapter 92: Making a killing!
The battle is over.
The two groups that were just talking politely to each other suddenly found one of them collapsed.
There are many suspicious points about this matter.
Although this group is from Danube City, are they actually an investigation team from the association?
If so, why don't they investigate the forest fire and the appearance of high-level monsters on the outskirts?
Why would they come to such a remote corner to look for kobolds?
Moreover, as members of the investigation team, aren't they a bit too weak?
Both mages and rangers are beginners.
Warriors wielding dual axes are similar to Gru, both being at a basic, fully equipped level.
Only Kant was probably a newly promoted intermediate-level warrior.
Let's think about it another way: what if they weren't part of the investigation team?
What were they doing traveling all the way from Danube to Ironweave Town?
Just to find red scales?
Why look for it?
A series of questions swirled in Cyril and his companions' minds, but they remained unanswered.
But the other person is dead and will never answer these questions again, and these questions may very well become irrelevant.
"Little guy, I've heard of a spell called 'Talk to the Dead,' do you know how to use it?" Gru asked.
"Won't."
Wilder shook his head. "You want to ask them about the red scales?"
"That's such a boring question," Gru waved his hand. "I want to ask Anna if all the girls in Danube are as beautiful as her?"
"Well……"
Wilder should have known.
However, he was somewhat interested in the "conversation with the dead" that Gru mentioned, and he could ask Fina if she had it in her collection when he got back.
Next, the team began cleaning up the battlefield.
The rewards from today's mission are still increasing, and have even reached an incalculable amount.
Adventurers from Danube City would certainly not be poor.
A total of eighty gold coins and fifty-odd silver coins were found on them, along with several rings and pendants that looked quite valuable.
In addition, there were their weapons.
"Weapons are hard to sell, so let's each pick a few that we're comfortable with and distribute them," Cyrion said.
He had long admired Kant's two-handed sword, which was not only exquisitely designed but also extremely hard.
If he had lingered a little longer in the fight, his one-handed sword would have been shattered sooner or later.
Gru then took Byrd's dual battle axes.
Although he still prefers using a two-handed axe, this one looks very fine and he can take it back to Blackrock Castle and give it to his father to play with.
Lyle took the wax-white longbow from Anna.
It was a fine bow, but the perfume on it was unbearable for him, not even as pleasant as the sulfur smell on the kobolds.
Joffrey then collected four different daggers from the four corpses.
Each one was exceptionally sharp, but almost none of them smelled of blood. Perhaps adventurers in big cities often used these things as decorations.
Wilder obtained Hogg's staff.
This is definitely the most expensive item in the entire store.
The light yellowish-brown hazelwood substrate is polished to a very smooth finish, with unidentified reddish-brown crystals that are crystal clear and free of impurities.
Most importantly, Wilde witnessed Hogg instantly cast three charge spells with this staff.
For that reason alone, a similar staff would sell for a hundred gold coins at Old Baggins' place.
They made a killing!
"Pack up all the weapons and take them back. Once we get to town, find a trustworthy shop to modify them, and then we can take them out to use again after a while."
Cyrion gave a word of advice, and everyone nodded.
After packing up, the team prepared to return to Ironweave Town.
But when they stepped out of the cave and saw the starry sky above the treetops, they realized something.
It was already dark.
"Shall we go back?" Wilder asked.
"no."
Cyrion shook his head. "Most monsters are nocturnal, and we don't have their night vision. It's too dangerous."
"So where are you going to sleep?" Gru yawned. "I didn't plan on spending the night on this trip, so I didn't even bring a sleeping mat."
Wilder paused, taken aback:
"Aren't they all readily available in the kobold caves?"
"Huh? More than thirty kobolds, two leaders, and four humans!" Gru exclaimed in shock. "We're going to live with corpses?!"
"The bodies are all in the innermost room. We can just sleep in the outer hall," Wilder said.
He valued tangible safety more than the horror of the corpses.
"Wild is right."
Cyrion agreed, saying, "The kobold cave is well-hidden, with lights and water inside, plus various traps and mechanisms, making it the safest place in the vicinity."
Lyle and Joffrey both agreed.
"Hopefully you won't step into a trap when you get up at night!"
Gru shrugged and eventually agreed to the decision.
So the group returned to their underground lair and settled in the open hall where three tunnels had been dug.
There are three tunnels: two lead to the end of the tunnel and one leads to a secluded area deep in the forest. The tunnels are extremely narrow and do not require guards.
The only place that needs to be guarded is the tunnel entrance leading into this hall.
"Wilde, mages need to rest and recover their spells, so you don't need to keep watch. A few of us taking turns will be enough," Cyrion said.
"Okay, thank you everyone for your hard work."
Wilder readily accepted the offer.
After all, restoring his magic power as much as possible is also a guarantee for the entire team.
Interestingly enough, Wilder's first time in this world was while keeping watch at a forest camp.
In such a short period of time, he has changed so much.
At least, there's no need to keep watch anymore.
He lay on the mattress, which had been laid out with hay, staring at the ceiling for a long time until the panel appeared before his eyes—
Name: Wilder
[Class]: Mage
[Level]: Lv4 (1110/3000)
(1115/3000)
(1215/3000)
(1315/3000)
(1415/3000)
……
Wilder stared at the system panel, roughly calculating the source of each experience point.
5 o'clock is the dog-headed old ha.
100 points represents the two kobold leaders.
The last two 100 points are for Hogg, the junior mage, and Bird, the junior warrior.
Uh……
It feels so slow.
Even if you hunt difficult-level monsters, you'll still need at least fifteen attempts to level up.
I used to think that gaining 100 experience points was a lot, but now it seems like it's not enough at all.
He blinked and turned off the panel.
A feeling of emptiness, a lack of magical power, washed over him, followed by an overwhelming drowsiness.
He gently closed his eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep in the kobold underground lair, filled with the smells of earth, sulfur, and a faint stench of blood.
……
When he woke up, Wilde didn't know if it was dawn yet.
The underground nest was dark, with only the flickering light of kerosene lamps on the rock walls.
But from the cool air coming through the tunnel entrance, he guessed it must be around four or five in the morning.
The watchman had changed from Cyrion, who went to sleep, to Gru. The dwarf was now leaning against the tunnel entrance, snoring loudly.
Unable to fall back asleep, Wilder got up and stretched.
After feeling around inside his body, he found that his magical power had recovered to more than 80%, and he could now cast at least ten spells in a row.
He moved around a bit and suddenly felt an urge to urinate.
Given the already complicated smell in the room, he decided to change the location to relieve himself.
After hesitating for a moment, he crawled into the first tunnel entrance on the inner rock wall—
That is, the enclosed space where the kobold treasures are piled up.
