Chapter 9 New Specialization
Chapter 9 New Specialization
Cyrion stared at Wilde in surprise, his weathered old face turning red instantly.
Gru's faint laughter came from behind. Although Lyle remained calm, his sharp, narrow eyes were definitely observing the changes in Lyle's expression with great interest.
This novice mage...
What he said was truly unexpected.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and he decided to change the subject.
"Martha...we're leaving now, goodbye."
"Hmm." Martha glanced at him.
As Cyrion and his group turned to leave, Martha's lazy voice came from behind.
"I don't get off work until 8 PM."
Cyrion was stunned for a moment before he reacted, turning his head and saying, "I've got it."
His hand on Wilder's shoulder unconsciously tightened, as if to express some kind of gratitude.
After leaving the Adventurers' Guild, Cyrion began distributing the rewards.
In addition to the payment from the association, the team's earnings from the jar of coins found in the kobold cave were quite substantial.
Wilder received 2 gold and 90 silver medals.
Even if you did manual labor for a full four months, you wouldn't earn that much.
This doesn't even include the dragon scale in his pocket, which was worth at least one gold coin.
Thinking of the dragon scales, he asked, "Cyrion, why didn't you let me take out the dragon scales earlier?"
"Oh, this?" Cyrion smiled. "The Adventurers' Guild is fairly fair in its buyback price for quest-related loot, but they can't offer a price for more expensive items."
"There's a shop called Lingzhu Baozhai at 22 Greystone Street. The owner is called Baggins. He's a dwarf, but he's a nice guy and won't rip you off."
"Is the boss an old man?"
"That's right, he's probably a hundred years old," Cyrion recalled.
Wilder nodded.
Good heavens, could this old man's shop be hiding the One Ring?
As the sun sets, its afterglow paints the smooth stone pavement a dark red, a gentle evening breeze blows, and bonfires slowly light up the streets.
The adventure team parted ways.
Lyle took Gru to a nearby clinic first. Cyrion's injuries weren't serious, so he went back to his hotel.
Wilder wandered around the streets several times before finally finding the place where his predecessor had stayed before embarking on the adventure.
Horse Colt Inn.
His luggage is still stored here.
The hotel is far from luxurious; in fact, it's rather simple. It's a three-story wooden building, with the first floor serving as a tavern and the second and third floors housing guest rooms.
The location is quite good, not far from the Adventurers' Guild and the town's main road. It's well-lit and looks quite safe, which is probably what its predecessor valued.
"Crunch—"
Wildo pushed open the door.
An overwhelming cacophony of noise rushed towards him, and the aroma of ale and stew instantly transported him to another world.
The restaurant was almost full, with adventurers clinking their glasses frequently. Some were drinking to their hearts' content and pulling out their longswords to brandish them, while others pushed aside the plates on the tables and started arm wrestling for some reason.
The waitresses, dressed in white linen blouses, moved among the diners carrying trays and wine glasses, occasionally cracking a joke with them.
The lively atmosphere made Wilder, who had just become alone, unconsciously relax as well.
He squeezed through the narrow gap between the seats to the counter.
The innkeeper was a dwarf much older than Gru, with long red hair and a beard that met at his broad chin, a large nose, and a potbelly.
This reminded Wilder of an old friend.
"Find a girl to sit with by the fireplace!"
But there were clearly not many people playing cards at this shop, and the owner wasn't as enthusiastic as Has, only nodding slightly at him.
"Hello, I'm here to pick up my stored luggage," Wilder said.
"Hello, young man," the boss finally spoke, his mouth almost invisible beneath a thick beard, "How many days have you stored it?"
"Three days."
"A silver coin."
After receiving the money, the shopkeeper pointed to the pile of packages behind the counter.
Wilder retrieved his luggage and then asked, "How much is the accommodation per day?"
"A shared room costs fifty copper coins, a single room costs one silver coin, and a deluxe large room costs three silver coins."
This price is considered fair in Tiewen Town, and even somewhat reasonable.
Wilder used to live in a dormitory, but considering he now had a huge sum of money—two gold coins—he decided to live in a better place.
"I'll stay in a single room for a week." He placed seven silver coins on the counter.
The owner pushed one back: "Stay for a week, and get one day free."
Wilder nodded his thanks. It seemed that the boss was a cold-on-the-outside-but-warm-on-the-inside person; otherwise, the business wouldn't be so booming.
He didn't rush to take his luggage upstairs. In order to get back to town before dark, he had only eaten a piece of black bread all day and was already starving.
At a single table by the window, he ordered a rather lavish meal from the enthusiastic waitress.
A large portion of tender and flavorful herb-braised lamb, a bowl of rich and mellow white mushroom soup, a few slices of rye bread with smoked minced meat, and a glass of frothy ale.
The waiter also gave us a complimentary plate of pickled dried wild mushrooms, perfect for pairing with drinks.
The lamb, with bones, is stewed until tender and falls off the bone. The broth is thick, white, and oily, and the meat is soft, tender, and not gamey at all, with a rich and delicious flavor.
A bite of pickled vegetables perfectly neutralized the greasiness of the mutton, followed by a large gulp of ice-cold ale, and the fatigue of the past three days vanished.
Wilder gazed at the night outside the window, momentarily lost in thought.
This meal costs 3 silver coins; if a laborer eats one of these, he will have worked for a day and a half for nothing.
After paying for his room and meals, he had 2 gold and 81 silver left. Three days of adventure was enough for him to relax for a while.
Is this what life is like for adventurers...?
He didn't think too much about it; after a hearty meal, a belated sleepiness suddenly overwhelmed him.
He finished the last sip of ale in his oak glass, picked up his luggage, and went upstairs to his room.
……
I feel dawn.
The small window of the single room faced the street, and the loud hawking woke Wilder.
This is the best night's sleep I've had since I came into this world.
Wilder was used to staying in bed a little longer, but unfortunately there were no cell phones in this world, so he could only stare blankly at the wooden ceiling for a while.
A semi-transparent light curtain slowly appeared before his eyes.
