I am the Enchantress!

Chapter 84 Traps and Mechanisms

Chapter 84 Traps and Mechanisms

Led by two hospitable kobolds, the group officially entered their cave.

Dog-headed people are natural architects.

These simple-level monsters don't have the formidable combat power of the Shark Lizard Beast or the Digging Worm, nor are they as efficient at digging.

But the hole dug by the kobolds was designed with a specific purpose in mind.

First, there is a narrow tunnel about 300 feet long, barely wide enough for one person to pass through.

The tunnel's width was clearly designed for the kobolds' physiques, making it even more difficult for burly warriors like Cyrion and Gru to traverse.

After passing through a tunnel, there is a wide area that can accommodate four people walking side by side.

Compared to the darkness of the previous section of the road, this space is much brighter.

Kerosene lamps were mounted on the rock walls on both sides, and bottles and jars were piled up in the corners.

Wilder immediately understood the purpose of the design.

It's for defense.

When enemies invade their lair, the kobolds can gather in open spaces and guard the exits of narrow tunnels, creating a situation where they can fight outnumbered enemies one by one.

As expected of a monster with intelligence.

"Habahaha yaha!"

(You guys are so smart!)

Wilder couldn't help but praise the two kobolds who had led the way.

"Haba! Ha ya la ha ha la ha la ha!"

(Of course! Our defense is very reliable!)

Even under the spell's influence, the old husky still looked proud when talking about the cave's design.

The cave was long, and the team continued onward, led by two kobolds.

Suddenly, Old Ha raised one hand, signaling everyone to stop.

It pointed to its feet with its well-defined, dark brown claws.

In the dim light, an inconspicuous thin rope is stretched horizontally at ankle height, with both ends fixed to the rock face.

The group carefully stepped over the thin rope one by one.

"What would happen if you tripped?" Gru asked.

"This is a snare. Once the trap is triggered, the snare will tighten around the prey's legs, suspending it in place," Joffrey explained.

As a wanderer who often operates in the gray area, these are the basic knowledge he must master.

"oh."

Gru swallowed hard.

However, this trap was relatively friendly to him; once he was suspended, at least he didn't have to worry about hitting his head.

Just then, Old Ha raised his hand again to signal the team to stop.

In front of it was a flat and clean ground, which looked normal.

It crouched down and tapped the ground with its hand.

"Bang, bang."

It made two crisp sounds.

"Empty?"

Wilder and his men also crouched down and brushed away the layer of sand on top, discovering that underneath was a piece of coarse burlap with its four corners fixed in place.

When the burlap was lifted, a pit more than ten feet deep was revealed underneath, with sharpened wooden and bone spurs stuck in the bottom.

"That's fucking ruthless, what if someone fell in..."

Gru gasped.

Led by two kobolds, the team made their way through the narrow crevice between the pit and the rock wall.

"Everyone, stay alert and don't let your guard down."

Cyrion offered a word of advice.

After easily wiping out a group of kobolds last time, he became somewhat careless and didn't take this mission seriously.

Now it seems these beasts are far more dangerous than we imagined.

If it weren't for the two kobolds leading the way, they would have died twice today.

They then encountered a series of traps, including a mechanism with a huge boulder hanging from it, a hidden bag filled with poisonous mushroom powder, and a rock wall recess teeming with spiders and centipedes...

"Damn it, I'm starting to doubt whether I'm as smart as a kobold." Gru was completely shocked.

"No doubt about it."

Lyle picked up the baton very smoothly.

"cut."

The dwarf grumbled in dissatisfaction and followed the others.

As you continue forward, the traps and mechanisms decrease, and instead, there are many more decorations.

The land surface has been transformed into a stone-paved road, which has been washed clean and is quite smooth. Metal kerosene lamps hang on the rock walls on both sides, and occasionally you can see a table and a few chairs, all of which are carved from stone.

If I'm not mistaken, they have already entered the "inner chamber" of the kobold's lair.

Three tunnels were carved into the innermost rock wall, and the three entrances were covered with coarse linen, which looked quite elaborate.

Wilder exchanged a few words with the two huskies, then turned to his teammates and said:

"Let's go to the first cave entrance first."

"Which way does the first cave lead?" Cyrion asked. "To the two kobold leaders?"

"They said the leaders were still sleeping, and the first entrance to the cave was their storehouse, which contained jewels and gold coins."

Wilder replied, "Let's get the money first, otherwise if we kill the chieftain and his bastards are overcome with grief and lose control of magic, then no one will be there to help us get the money."

"Ah... okay."

Cyrion was somewhat dazed, and then crawled into the first hole.

This must have been the most unusual experience of his many years of adventure.

Why does this feel so strange?

The hospitable monsters and the monster dens that felt like his own backyard made him completely forget that he was on an adventure.

"Little Ha said that three kobolds guard the place where the jewelry and gold coins are stored, so don't make a move yet."

Wilder turned and explained, "Their warehouse is a bit messy, so let the guards help look for valuables first. That will save time."

"Ah... okay."

For a fleeting moment, Cyril, this ruthless and unyielding tough guy, felt a pang of pity.

Kobolds...

They're quite enthusiastic.

Of course, this enthusiasm didn't come out of nowhere; it came from magic.

The eerie green beam of light shone again, striking the three kobolds in turn.

Behind them lies the entire fortune accumulated by this kobold tribe over the years.

From earthenware bowls and jars to miscellaneous items like quill pens and parchment scrolls, and several rough-textured, loosely closed wooden boxes, pearl necklaces dangling from the sides of the boxes.

Wilder had his teammates put their backpacks on the ground and line them up.

He then ordered three guards and two huskies, a total of five kobolds, to help them collect coins and jewels, stuffing their backpacks as full as possible.

"Isn't it a bit slow?"

Wilder muttered something and sent Little Ha out to call back three more kobolds.

After the crystal on the staff flashed three times, the number of kobolds helping increased to eight.

"Why are they all jewels? What happened to the promised ten pottery jars of gold coins?"

Wilder raised a question, and Little Hajime explained a whole bunch of things to him before he finally understood that only the kobold leader and his two wives knew the location of the pottery jar.

"Then go and call the two ladies here as well."

Then, the crystal on the staff flashed twice more, and two kobolds, whose genders were difficult to discern but were actually ladies, joined the group.

"One, two, three... eight, nine, ten."

Gru counted on his fingers, then froze:

"There are only thirty kobolds in this cave, right?"

"Now, a third of them are actually working for us!"
