Chapter 34 Hard Level Mission

Chapter 34 Hard Level Mission

"Meow."

"Meow meow".

"Meow?"

"Meow!"

A calico cat native to Ironweave Town was crouching under a dining table on the first floor of the inn, meowing back at Wilder.

It stretched its neck forward, letting Wilder's rough hands rub its little head.

Then Wilder broke off half a loaf of bread and tossed it to it.

"Meow meow".

"Meow."

The transaction is complete.

The calico cat picked up the piece of bread and tiptoed away.

Talia, sitting across the table, looked at Wilder with a puzzled expression. Her lips twitched, but she ultimately didn't ask the question.

Why did he try to meow like a cat?

"Shall we go to the Adventurers' Guild later?" Talia changed the subject.

"Well," Wilder nodded, "but I can't do the newbie quests with you today. A friend asked me to meet him at the guild."

"I'll go by myself."

"OK."

In their recent missions, they encountered no major incidents on the outskirts of the border forest, so Wilder wasn't too worried.

Moreover, this young lady had also hunted the Soul-Burning Hound and the Fire Toad alone, although both missions failed due to not finding them, which also reflects her incredible luck.

After breakfast, the two went to the Adventurers' Guild.

Cyrion hadn't arrived yet, so Wilder accompanied Talia to look around in front of the mission bulletin board.

All recruitment lists related to the "Forest Fire Investigation" have been removed.

According to Martha, the cause of the fire was never determined, and the whole matter came to nothing.

Did dragons really come to the border forest?

Wilder let his imagination run wild.

"Wilde," Talia's voice interrupted his thoughts, "I've chosen my mission."

"oh."

Wilder took the list and glanced at it. The task was to collect Ancient Beard Grass, located in A.8, not far from Ironweave Town.

"Then I'm leaving."

"Okay, be careful."

Talia nodded and left the Adventurers' Guild hall.

Wilder watched her retreating figure and thought that this girl was finally starting to resemble an adventurer.

"Little guy, is that your lover?"

A familiar voice came from behind, followed by a large hand poking Wilder in the waist.

I turned my head and looked.

I looked down again.

It really is Gru.

"Gru? Where have you been all this time?" Wilder asked enthusiastically.

"I was craving my mom's homemade pies, so I went back to my hometown!"

"That simple?"

"It's that simple!" Gru grinned, his thick beard spreading out to the sides. "You still haven't answered me? That girl is your lover?"

"Just a partner," Wilder shook his head. "When you're not around, she and I do beginner quests together."

"It's easy for sparks to fly when doing missions, especially between a man and a woman alone together."

Gru nodded in approval. "I remember a female ranger and a male warrior went hunting ogres, and when they returned, the ranger was pregnant!"

"Well……"

Wilder gave a wry smile.

With just a few words, he regained his familiarity with Gru.

"Gru, did Cyril send you to the association?" he asked.

"Yeah, that guy left a message at my hotel. Luckily I came back last night, or I would have missed it."

As Gru spoke casually, he suddenly raised his hand and beckoned towards the door.

"Cyrion!"

Wilde turned around and, sure enough, saw Cyrion walking towards them.

This guy changed his entire outfit from head to toe.

The armor, made of soft cowhide with studs, is more durable than ordinary leather armor. It is paired with wrist guards and knee pads, and is dark brown overall with shiny silver studs.

On his back was a brand-new iron-patterned oak round shield, and at his waist was a longer and sharper silver-white one-handed sword than before.

"Captain, congratulations on your promotion to intermediate warrior," Wilder said with a smile.

"Wild, I owe you a lot for this."

Cyrion's voice was still cheerful, "Last time I was ordered by you to use a level two combat skill, I had some insights, and after returning, I suddenly broke through."

Gru stared at his new outfit and pointed at it:

"As expected of a mid-level warrior, that leather armor must cost at least five gold coins, right?"

"You like it? You should buy one too. Didn't you get ten gold coins as your share of the reward last time?"

"I ran out of money at the tavern," Gru chuckled. "I ran out of money for food later, otherwise I wouldn't have remembered my mom's pies."

"Ten gold coins at the tavern? Which tavern charges so much for a meal?" Wilde asked.

"A tavern isn't just a place to drink and eat; it also..."

"Alright, alright."

Cyrion interrupted Gru, as he disliked hearing about dwarves' romantic escapades. "We've come to ask if we need a quest?"

"No problem," Wilder replied.

"That's exactly what I was thinking, otherwise I wouldn't have any money for drinks." Gru naturally didn't refuse.

Lyle was still recovering from his injury, so Cyrion didn't call him. This mission was a three-person team.

They searched for suitable tasks in front of the task bulletin board.

[Task ID]: S475

[Task Type]: Cleanup

[Mission Location]: Outskirts of Border Forest, coordinates D.4

[Mission Description]: Recently, more than twenty [Goblins] have appeared in the designated area, and several passing caravans have been robbed. They urgently need to be eliminated.

[Quest Reward]: 3 silver coins for each goblin hunted.

[Task Level]: Easy

[Task Qualification]: Possess an Adventurer's Guild badge of Bronze rank or higher.

……

"How about this one?" Cyrion asked.

Goblins are not very strong, making this a relatively safe and easy-to-complete task.

"It's not very interesting." Gru curled his lip. "The reward doesn't even amount to a single gold coin."

Last time, everyone received more than ten gold coins, which not only made Gru, who was prone to getting carried away, but also subtly raised Wilder's threshold.

He didn't comment, his gaze continuing to scan the bulletin board.

[Task ID]: D304

[Task Type]: Cleanup

[Mission Location]: Outskirts of Border Forest, coordinates D.9

[Mission Description]: Recently, an adult [Shark Lizard] has appeared in the designated area. Several passing caravans and logging teams have been attacked, and the creature urgently needs to be eliminated.

[Quest Reward]: Hunting the Shark Lizard Beast rewards 10 gold coins.

[Task Level]: Hard

[Task Qualification]: Possess an Adventurer's Guild badge of Silver rank or higher.

……

"Is this shark-lizard beast easy to deal with?" Wilder asked.

"This beast is said to have exceptionally thick hide, making it impervious to ordinary attacks."

Cyrion glanced at it and commented, "But my newly learned level two combat skill should be able to pierce through it."

"Want to give it a try?" Wilder suggested.

Although it's a difficult mission, the reward is only ten gold coins, making it relatively easy for this level.

"That's possible..."

Cyrion was also eager to try, but said helplessly, "But we don't have any silver badges. I'm still two or three mission attempts short."

"I might be able to handle this," Wilder smiled.

He offered to take on the task because he had spotted a familiar figure in a corner of the association.
