Chapter 248 241 Contact Teizene (Part 2)
Chapter 248 241 Contact Teizene (Part 2)
The Teizine named Ji Meilas, upon hearing these words, had his lizard face change expression. From his twitching mouth and the distortion of his pupils, Bai Zhongqi could tell that the lizard man was frightened.
This was not surprising, on Bupinga Star, ten thousand Pulun was not considered a lot of money, but for a single person's spending, this sum was terrifyingly high. For example, Bai Zhongqi had dinner with two beauties at the hotel he was staying at yesterday, and given that the tastes of the Galaxy's Primate Clan were quite similar, they had a fairly good meal. This exceptionally lavish dinner cost the three of them less than 300 Pu Qie.
Broadly speaking, it wasn't much of a problem to assume that one Pu Qie had roughly the purchasing power of one US Dollar on Earth in the past. The prices on Bupinga were very different from those on Earth; things considered expensive on Earth might be cheap here, and things that were valued more highly here might be considered cheap on Earth.
Simply put, Bai Zhongqi asking to exchange 10,000 Pulun for gambling was akin to someone exchanging one trillion US Dollars to roam around Las Vegas back on Earth.
He Qiu, standing beside him, was stunned. His boss seemed carefree but he had previously thought that Bai Zhongqi was just a representative of the Eagle Shield Civilization's trading group. However, Bai Zhongqi, flinging around huge sums of money and converting all the Pulun obtained by the Eagle Shield Civilization into chips, was clearly not a decision a mere trading group representative could make.@@@@
"I've underestimated him. The Eagle Shield Civilization appears to be a nobility-based system. If this man isn't backed by the funds of a corrupt civilization, then he must surely be a descendant of the high echelons of the civilization," He Qiu calculated in his mind.
Originally, Ji Meilas had an imposing aura, but when Bai Zhongqi spoke of exchanging 10,000 Pulun, Ji Meilas's neck unconsciously shrank. There were only a few thousand Pu Qie on his table, which was a considerable asset for a typical representative of a civilization, but the opponent threw out such a large amount of funds, which disconcerted him.
Now, he was in a dilemma whether to gamble or not, and Ji Meilas was extremely annoyed and felt he couldn't back down.
The more it got to this point, the more Bai Zhongqi, sitting there, seemed unnervingly composed. Bai Zhongqi nonchalantly said, "Show the cards."
Ji Meilas felt a wave of heat on his face and said, "The minimum bet for the round is 100 Pu Qie."
As he said this, Ji Meilas felt even more uncomfortable and deeply embarrassed. Indeed, Bai Zhongqi had no intention of sparing his dignity and casually threw out a chip representing one Pulun, grabbed a Crystal Card, and placed it on the table without even looking.
According to the rules, if Ji Meilas wanted to play, he had to follow the bet, and clearly, he didn't have one Pulun to match it. Of course, if he didn't match it, he would lose this round and the 100 Pu Qie would be gone. This was the worst scenario for a gambler with few chips gambling against another with a pile of chips; the opponent's move forced one to go all-in, and losing meant total loss, while the losing opponent still had more chips.
Ji Meilas didn't want to lose this face. Seeing Bai Zhongqi had not even looked at his cards, he cautiously picked up his hand, glanced at it, and realizing the combination was too poor to form any substantial hand, he simply folded.
"Previous player folds, next player wins."
In the casino, a dealer with a body covered in tentacles, blue skin but a face resembling a beautiful female from the Primate Clan, used one of her tentacles to move the chips Ji Meilas lost in front of Bai Zhongqi.
Bai Zhongqi knew that while the Teizene might find intelligent life tastier, to other civilizations a cannibalistic culture was clearly more horrifying, which, while tarnishing their reputation, also made them feared.
Ji Meilas, watching Bai Zhongqi's shifting expressions, felt much better. What could this wealthy man do? The Teizene civilization was a terror.
Bai Zhongqi wanted to kill these Lizard People on the spot; with one command, Zero, who was standing by, could use Star Energy and crush these disgusting lizards into a ball. However, Bai Zhongqi couldn't act rashly, as there were still rules on Bupinga Star.
He was unable to overturn the entire rule system of Bupinga Star, especially not with the cohort of High-Level Civilizations present and his army from the First Universe not behind him.
As the Iridium Star Chancellor, Bai Zhongqi felt incredibly isolated in his position.
However, Bai Zhongqi was not one to back down. He sat down again and whispered a few words to He Qiu.
After listening, He Qiu's face, despite its completely different expression system from that of the Primate Clan, became extremely animated.
He asked Bai Zhongqi anxiously, "Are you really going to do this?"
Bai Zhongqi smiled, his smile tinged with a chill, "Why not?"
Soon after, the casino's kitchen delivered a grill with several skewers, each threaded with several lizard-sized palm-length lizards.
Following the grill into the room, the chef saluted Bai Zhongqi and explained, "Guest, this is one of our signature dishes, although few choose it. It comes from Woodingdale Star, a desolate planet without an atmosphere where lizards survive without breathing. The soil there contains a high concentration of oxides, and Woodingdale lizards obtain sufficient nutrients by consuming these oxides and breaking them down. Their meat is particularly crispy after roasting, and when seasoned properly, it becomes an absolute delight."
Bai Zhongqi thanked the chef with a smile, then picked up a skewer of roasted lizards, crunching one into his mouth and leaving half of its tail hanging out.
Upon seeing this, Ji Meilas's face changed - despite being an intelligent species, the Teizene were fundamentally reptilian lizards, and Bai Zhongqi's act was a clear retaliation against their earlier provocation.
Two of Ji Meilas's minions even rushed for their weapons, and the room immediately tensed. Zero reacted fastest, extending a hand and altering the directional force on them. The original gravity they felt turned into a backward striking force, and they were instantly sent flying.
Enraged, Ji Meilas overturned the table and swiped a claw at Bai Zhongqi.
Bai Zhongqi remained unfazed, signaling Zero to stand down. He deftly avoided the swipe, followed the direction of Ji Meilas's arm, grabbed his huge mouth, and then violently smashed down, slamming Ji Meilas's head onto his flying knee. The impact resounded clearly throughout the room.
