Chapter 1507 - 72: The Base’s Location (2)
Renie used to enjoy deceiving Fisher, but her intentions were different; Renie did it to protect and tease herself, without causing potential harm to others. If Renie’s lies are like colorful bubbles hovering around you, ready to burst at a touch, then Helair’s lies might be like a Schwali high-yield bomb hanging on you, ready to blow everyone else around you sky-high at the slightest move...
Moreover, he already had Elizabeth as a cautionary tale, which left him somewhat disappointed in the trust he previously placed in her.
At least back then, when he plunged into the Sea of Chaos to save Helair at all costs, he was unconcerned with rewards, yet his efforts were returned only with unspoken deception.
This left him somewhat downhearted, but only somewhat; aside from his inner thoughts, he didn’t show it, only inadvertently exuding a slight low-pressure hinting to everyone "I’m in a bad mood".
Within the tempestuous "Performance Gate," Fisher spotted a crooked sturdy tree growing on the eerie blue reef—a tree of unknown species that somehow thrived in such a place.
Among the eerie blue trees swaying in the gale, a relatively small wooden house stood upon the tree.
"Ha, that must be Barbatos’s abode!"
Emhardt remarked, and the nearby folks looked at him, silently questioning how he knew.
This inquisitive gaze obviously satisfied the current "performance desire" of the Great Book Knight, who then coughed proudly twice, saying,
"Hehe, that’s something you wouldn’t know. This thing is a gift from Agares to Barbatos, a mutation cultivated by mimicking the elves’ original trees. At the time, Barbatos’s dwelling was quite dilapidated, so she built a new house using the perpetually growing tree’s timber."
Moli stroked her chin, asked, "So, Agares and Barbatos are close friends, right?"
"No, their relationship is just ordinary, merely acquaintances. But Agares likes gifting people to forge good relations. Even those demon gods who usually ignore her and limit interactions, she would still prepare gifts... hmm, Paimon likely received one too, though it’s unknown what it is."
With that said, they swiftly arrived in front of the giant tree, Fisher reached out and touched its bark. Previously, Agares had sent three demon servants over, imprinting deeply the flesh power similar to the Life Completion Manual on Fisher’s memory; especially since Erwin had gotten clues about the "treasure" from Agares.
Yet when he touched the tree now, a force of vibrant life and destiny transmitted through, this orderly power and warmth seemed unsettling to Fisher, who had long interacted with chaotic power.
Is this genuine elf power, also within Agares’s scope?
"Is this Agares’s power as well?"
Fisher analyzed that future adversary’s "power," puzzled by how something diametrically opposed to life chaos power originated from her as a demon god.
Behind him, the Death Lord seemingly understood his confusion, softly uttering a word: "Curiosity."
His remark instantly sparked inspiration in Fisher, who recalled studying the Creation Scripture and its description of such desires: "You must obsess over new things tirelessly, even if they are fraught with danger; you must covet their secrets, even if this invites utter destruction."
"Agares is the powerful demon god behind the Curiosity Gate, meaning she harbors a fervent obsession for new, intriguing powers she has never seen, perhaps explaining her possession of so many originally opposing forces."
Fisher proposed a hypothesis, one hand on the tree, while the other opened the Solomon’s Dynasty Scroll on his chest, from which the list of demon gods behind the Curiosity Gate, headed by Agares’s name alongside words supporting Fisher’s view, appeared,
"Agares"
"Earl, First Pillar behind the Curiosity Gate"
"Warm disposition, fondness for exploring, accommodating like a river, accepting various forces"
Does this mean Agares possesses more than just these two forces?
While Fisher was trying to understand these opponent forces, the Death Lord next to him wasn’t idle either; he glanced at the wooden cabin cloaked by the tree above and the area beside it, showing no intention of going up but spreading his hand to release the corpse birds hidden in his clothing, which flew up into the sky and headed towards the cabin.
"Chirp! Chirp!"
As his eyes gradually turned white, a succession of noises emerged from the aged wooden house until a moment later, he beckoned the birds to exit and told Fisher and the others,
"There’s no special aura inside, just some weapons and clothes; it’s rather plain. The portal should not be inside."
"Portal then..."
While mumbling, his hand on the tree seemed to touch a distinct slight depression different from other tree folds, squinting to look up and discovering runes shining in response to his exploration—symbols of the demon god.
In that instant, Fisher’s soul seemed to elevate without leaving his body, elevating his vision as if gazing down like a god at this grand, layered dynasty.
Regions behind variously colored gates, and a faint sense of connection emerging from the ground above.
"Mr. Fischer!"
Moli watched as Fisher froze upon touching the runes, then hurriedly reached out intending to pull him away, but upon contact, she too experienced the same perspective as Fisher.
"This... What is this?"
She muttered, her gaze empty at the scene before her and the distant connection from the ground, stunned by the bizarre perspective.
"Fisher and Moli seem already in the portal’s perspective... this tree, it’s this tree!"
"Oh, this tree is Barbatos’s portal; he has only this one portal, the tree before us corresponding to the portal above the ground."
Fisher quickly figured out the answer, feeling the rugged bark of this probable mythical rank tree while pondering the knowledge told to him by Pisces.
Perhaps he could experiment with mythical rank magic using this mythical rank portal here?
He was just shy of differentiating which Ring Head belonged under the same authority, requiring only a little more progress in the Soul Completion Manual; not much left to read, and aside from an acceptable discrepancy, everything else seemed fine.
If not, finish reading the Soul Completion Manual here, then research the empowering new mythical magic?
While Fisher contemplated, Moli, still viewed from a "God’s Eye View" over the dynasty, heard Fisher’s remarks but shook her head, murmuring,
"No... Mr. Fischer, I’m not referring to this portal but... the other..."
"The other?"
Fisher was slightly stunned, disengaging from Barbatos’s portal perspective, gazing at Moli still swimming within, awaiting her next words.
Meeting Fisher’s expectations, she seemed aware of what Fisher couldn’t see; even her blue eyes were tinged with red, reflecting what she saw.
She promptly told Fisher,
"Mr. Fischer, that base... I’ve sensed its exact location! Paimon didn’t hide it elsewhere; he placed it beneath his palace."
