Chapter 6 Game Experience
Chapter 6 Game Experience
When Lin Xiu came here last time, he had seen a lot of undead and was even driven away by them.
But back then, the living dead were just ordinary people. Whether they were sitting, lying down, or standing, they were just like the ones in Mengzhou City. They would only be activated and suddenly attack people when someone got close.
Unlike now, before Yao Rongrong and I even got close, these living dead had already reacted.
Yao Rongrong looked serious, drew a thin sword from her waist, and said, "Of course not, sir, please step back."
Lin Xiu hadn't expected Yao Rongrong to be able to conceal a sword on her slender waist. The sword was drawn and swayed, reflecting the sunlight and appearing somewhat dazzling.
He had never seen Yao Rongrong like this before; her expression was serious, and her whole body exuded an extremely sharp aura.
Without Yao Rongrong saying anything more, Lin Xiu was already retreating.
He hid himself completely beside the donkey and drew his knife from its back.
If a living dead were to pounce, the donkey's hooves and mouth would be able to unleash their power from both the front and back – the donkey's big front teeth were not to be trifled with, as Lin Xiu had witnessed before.
If the undead are nearby, then one's own knife can provide cover for the donkey.
Having been together for so long, the man and the donkey had developed a tacit understanding.
Lin Xiu glanced around and saw that the living dead at the Star Gazing Sect's headquarters had all stood up, totaling six.
Driven purely by instinct, the six living dead pounced on Yao Rongrong because she was closer to them.
What a great speed!
Lin Xiu was slightly surprised. The six living dead had ferocious faces, and their exposed skin had cracked due to the sudden change from stillness to movement. However, they seemed to feel no pain at all. They used their hands and feet and pounced on Yao Rongrong in the blink of an eye.
Yao Rongrong flicked her slender sword, but instead of charging forward, she retreated while dodging the attacks of the two undead, and slashed her sword across the neck of one of them.
The undead's neck was split open, but no blood spurted out; instead, a mixture of flesh and blood gushed out.
Yao Rongrong flicked her sword, creating a ripple.
The sword was still on the undead's neck when, with this ripple, it surged deep into the undead's neck.
She shrugged forward, her slender body easily passing between the two undead, thus escaping their encirclement.
The slender sword was then drawn, and the undead's entire neck was almost cut open, leaving only a section of skin and flesh at the back of the neck to hold the upper and lower parts together.
But the living dead was still alive. Its head swayed and drooped down behind it. Without even turning around, it lunged backward, its joints snapping as it was broken.
Horror!
Lin Xiu was astonished.
This was the first time he had seen Yao Rongrong take action; her ruthlessness and decisiveness were completely out of character for her.
Such undead were unprecedented. He had dealt with undead before, and in his previous understanding, these undead were almost all like the zombies he knew; once their heads were chopped off or blown off, they would die completely.
But what we see now is completely different.
If it's still not dead after all this, how are we supposed to kill this living dead?!
Yao Rongrong seemed to be startled by the situation and quickly stepped aside, saying, "Sir, run! If you can't escape, I won't take care of you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she ran off.
Lin Xiu quickly turned and ran, patting the black donkey's rump as he did so, saying, "Gotcha, Brother Donkey!"
The man and the donkey took off running.
Normally, Lin Xiu couldn't outrun this donkey, so he was already prepared to jump onto its back at the slightest sign of trouble.
As for the things on his back, he could throw whatever he could.
Unexpectedly, when he started running, he was able to keep up with Brother Donkey.
Whether it was driven by the instinct for survival or not, without realizing it, his breathing, pace, and rhythm of body movement all became coordinated as Yao Rongrong had instructed during his frantic run.
This method, though only at a basic level, proved useful at this crucial moment.
Lin Xiu was only slightly out of breath as he ran down the mountain, but the black donkey, which was carrying a full load of things, was exhausted and was panting heavily.
There was no more movement on the mountain behind him. Lin Xiu looked back and, to make sure the undead weren't chasing him, stopped.
The donkey also stopped and started making loud "puffing" sounds, though it was unclear what it was making.
"Sir, you have such high comprehension; you grasped the Dharma so easily."
Yao Rongrong's voice suddenly appeared. Lin Xiu turned around and saw that Yao Rongrong had silently arrived in front of him, giving him a charming smile. He couldn't help but complain, "Why are you like a ghost?!"
Yao Rongrong wrinkled her nose and said, "Sir, your words are so rude! How can I, a frail woman, be described as a ghost?"
Lin Xiu didn't respond, instead saying, "The living dead on the mountain are so powerful, are we still going up?"
Yao Rongrong chuckled and said, "This mountain is so strange, who knows if there really is some secret related to the current great calamity in the world, how can I not go?"
"If you're afraid, sir, then you can wait down the mountain. But don't expect any benefits from me."
"Let's talk about it after you actually get the benefits."
Lin Xiu smiled and said, "I'll go with you for a while and see how things go. If things don't look good, then we'll leave."
Yao Rongrong raised her eyebrows: "Sir, what have you discovered?"
Lin Xiu said, "No."
"Hmph! I don't believe it!"
Yao Rongrong wrinkled her upturned nose at Lin Xiu, then continued her ascent up the mountain.
Lin Xiu asked the black donkey, "Brother Donkey, are you coming?"
"Mmm~"
The black donkey brayed, shook its head, revealing its eyes beneath its long mane. It glanced at Lin Xiu and then followed him up the mountain.
Lin Xiu couldn't help but chuckle.
That stupid donkey's eyes seem to think it's being looked down upon.
The two men and the donkey went up the mountain again, but this time they were much more cautious, slowly making their way up without rushing.
They didn't find the undead along the way. When they got closer to the Guanxing Sect's gate, they stopped at a greater distance than before and looked out. They saw two rows of three people lying on each side of the gate, like two rows of corpses, which was very strange.
One of them had its head and body separated slightly, and it was obvious that it was the one whose head had been cut off by Yao Rongrong earlier.
"They actually went back?!"
Yao Rongrong was somewhat surprised. "It's like it's still guarding the gate even after it's dead. I wonder what kind of treasure is hidden inside?"
Lin Xiu thought for a moment, then drew his short crossbow, set up the bolt, and whispered, "Miss Yao, get ready."
Yao Rongrong frowned, lowered her voice, and asked, "What do you want to do, sir?"
Lin Xiu said, "I'll try to lure them one by one. If I can, then killing the monsters will depend on you. If I lure six at once, then we'd better run away quickly."
Yao Rongrong nodded without hesitation and said, "Okay."
So Lin Xiu shot an arrow, and with a "whoosh," it hit the living dead man on the very edge.
The undead man, struck by an arrow, sprang up from the ground with a "whoosh," touched the arrow in his shoulder to confirm its direction, and then charged toward Lin Xiu.
Yao Rongrong was overjoyed and drew her sword, asking, "Sir, how do you know this will work?"
"From playing games."
Lin Xiu said. Although he felt the reason was a bit absurd, he still answered.
He was just guessing that these undead were still acting on instinct, but their "underlying code" was more advanced than that of the undead in Mengzhou City. Looking at those undead reminded him of pulling monsters in games, so he just wanted to try it out.
I had originally planned to flee, but now it seems there's no need to rush.
"What game? Sir, you must take me to play sometime."
The undead lunged forward, and Yao Rongrong, while speaking, raised her sword to meet them.
