Chapter 444 Arresting Polaris

Chapter 444 Arresting Polaris

The night sky was pitch black because the moon had been taken away by the alien race, and with the drizzling rain, even the stars were barely visible.

On Earth, devoid of the moon, only the scattered lights of street buildings exude a glimmer of life, telling outsiders that this is not a dead city.

If nothing unexpected happens, the night will be as quiet as usual, until a police siren pierces the night sky.

Crunch!

A series of ear-piercing tire screech echoed as dozens of transport trucks blocked both sides of the street.

Fully armed special police officers jumped out of the vehicles and carefully surrounded each other, holding submachine guns.

Surrounded by these special police officers, a disheveled girl stood anxiously with her hands clasped to her chest, as if she held an invisible glass ball in her hands.

"Hurry up, hurry up!"

As the special police officers approached, the girl's heart pounded faster and she became increasingly restless, until a purple light slowly appeared in her hands.

"Stop what you're doing, put your hands behind your head and squat down, right now!"

The sound of a loudspeaker came from the direction of the SWAT team, but the girl ignored it and continued to hold onto the purple light in her hand, as if the light could carry her away from the SWAT team's encirclement.

"Final warning: immediately put your hands behind your head and squat down on the spot."

The sound came through the loudspeaker again, and at the same time, the submachine guns and rifles in the hands of the SWAT officers were cocked, the clicking sounds filling the air.

The girl turned deathly pale upon hearing the sound, as if someone were shining a fluorescent light on her from afar.

The special police officers also noticed this anomaly. As they slowly approached the girl, they paused for a moment and exchanged glances.

Even though they are ordinary people, they wear bulletproof vests, high-strength plastic helmets, and carry new types of firearms.

But when faced with these mutants who possess all sorts of strange abilities, it's always better to be cautious.

The radiant white glow on the girl's face grew increasingly pronounced, prompting one of the special police officers to look up and exclaim in surprise, "My God!"

This exclamation made everyone else look up at the sky as well.

Suddenly, a bright, full moon appeared in the once pitch-black night sky, casting its light upon the city.

The moon is back!

"Final warning, hands behind your head—"

The special police officer sitting in the car with a megaphone didn't notice the moon in the sky and continued to professionally warn the girl in the encirclement.

His warning also alerted the special police officers who were looking up at the moon, causing them to refocus their attention on their target.

But the next second the earth shook violently, the concrete pavement of the street suddenly cracked, the buildings on both sides swayed, and then a huge crack opened up in the earth and swallowed a police car.

The moon suddenly appeared in the Earth-Moon orbit, and the huge difference in gravity caused the tidal effect to immediately manifest on Earth, with the seawater rising high in both directions facing the moon and away from it.

The Earth's solid rock layers were deformed by the instantaneous tidal forces, and a super earthquake was about to erupt simultaneously on a global scale.

The violent shaking made it difficult for the SWAT officers to maintain their balance, allowing the girl in the encirclement to finally complete her action:

An irregular purple portal appeared out of thin air, barely large enough for an adult to pass through.

Before she could even glance at the special police officers, the girl leaped into the irregular portal, and the purple portal began to shrink rapidly until it disappeared completely.

Surrounded by SWAT officers, the mutant managed to escape.

But the special police officers didn't have time to continue the arrest plan; they were now in danger themselves.

The Inhumans pushed the moon away slowly and steadily, and the loss of Earth's satellite had minimal catastrophic impact, except for a temporary halt in maritime transport around the world.

However, the sudden appearance of the moon caused enormous damage to Earth's geological structure, and countless innocent people will be displaced or even lose their lives in this disaster.

At this moment, the Earth was like a sleeping behemoth being awakened.

In the blink of an eye, the special police officers were powerless in the face of the natural disaster, and with the transport vehicles and police cars blocking their way, they had nowhere to escape.

As the cracks on the ground rapidly extended and expanded, becoming as dense as a spider web, and the earth seemed about to swallow the special police officers like a giant maw, an indescribable feeling swept over their bodies.

Just like passing by a substation, the hairs on the officers' bodies stood on end. Goosebumps erupted all over their bodies, and the submachine guns in their hands and the magazines hanging on their bulletproof vests seemed to be electrified, stinging their hands painfully.

They didn't know what was happening, but after this feeling, the earth, which was cracking rapidly, stopped.

The teetering buildings, about to be swallowed by the cracks in the earth, stopped shaking and were instead gently straightened by a pair of unseen hands.

The massive earthquake that was about to cause immense destruction, like a behemoth being awakened, mysteriously stopped. Apart from the streetlights flickering on and off and the full moon hanging high overhead, everything seemed to be the same as before.

The man sitting in the police car with a megaphone was named Reed Strucker. He was gripping the inside door handle, trembling and curled up in a ball.

As the tremors subsided, he cautiously peeked out, but a sudden crackling sound startled him.

Fortunately, this wasn't a disaster. It was the voice coming from his headset, his superior in charge of the mutant arrest operation: "Strucker, immediately lead your SWAT team to the destination. The coordinates have been sent to your phone."

Reed Strucker was stunned, not immediately understanding what his superior was saying: "What?"

"Magneto, the most wanted criminal, has just revealed her coordinates, and you are the closest SWAT team to her. I order you to move out immediately."

His superior's cold voice came through the earpiece. This time, Reed Strucker understood, but he immediately questioned, "But boss, our guns and bullets are all metal. We need to change our weapons to arrest Magneto?"

"It's too late." The superior's voice remained cold and menacing. "By the time she reveals her coordinates again, who knows when it will be. If this operation succeeds, I will personally promote you."

Reed Strucker knew who "she" was that his boss was referring to.

The other party is Lorna Dayne, the daughter of "Magneto" Erik, a former leader of mutants who repeatedly instigated wars against humanity. She inherited her father's title "Magneto" and also the crime of waging war against humanity.

After a few seconds of silence, seeing that the mutants currently on the move had disappeared using their teleportation abilities, Reed Strucker asked his final question: "Boss, how did Polaris—no, Magneto—reveal his location?"

On the other end of the headset, the cold-faced boss paused for a moment: "The moon's sudden return just now triggered a tidal reaction, which Magneto stopped."

She averted a catastrophe that would affect the entire planet, and now I'm leading a fully armed SWAT team to arrest her—Strucker felt utterly absurd to be following orders.
