Chapter 42: Three Sentences That landed Batman in jail

Viewed from the side, it's a mountain range; viewed from the front, it's a peak; its appearance varies depending on distance, height, and perspective.

Connors had never felt the poem so deeply, especially when the three women were awakened one after another and sat up with varying degrees of swaying.

"Catwoman" Selena almost reflexively jumped off the bed, grabbing the thin blanket along with her. By the time she landed on the floor, the blanket was already wrapped tightly around her body.

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, who were a beat slower to react, had different reactions when they saw that the person who came was Connors.

Harley Quinn fell asleep immediately, but her arms were raised high, clearly indicating that she was about to give her a hug.

"Poison Ivy" Ivy glanced down at her towering snow-capped mountains and asked Connors:

"Are we getting down to business?"

She was still thinking about how Connors avoided discussing whether it was "the important matter" before going to see "Catwoman" Selena during the day.

As before, Connors avoided the topic, saying, "Sorry to bother you, I'm going to sleep in the living room."

Hearing Connors say to go to the living room, Selena, the "Catwoman," who was huddled in the corner wrapped tightly in a thin blanket, seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Then she noticed that Harley and Ivy were naked and quickly threw the blanket over to them.

I need to see Batman first thing tomorrow morning to discuss something, so let's call a truce for now—.- Connors lay on the living room sofa.

He was idly manipulating the ever-changing cactus two doors down.

—What about the cactus?

Connors looked in the direction of that house with a puzzled expression. The Green of All Things could no longer detect any plant presence in that house, so they must have thrown away the cactus.

But this didn't stop him. A seed sprouted from his pocket, and then the tender shoot kept wriggling, crawling out of the window like a spider, and grew back into the shape of a cactus, appearing on the windowsill of that family's house.

The next day, Connors was unsurprisingly awakened by the urgent sound of sirens. The male homeowner next door had woken up to find the discarded cactus on his balcony and promptly called the police again.

"Harley, you drive them towards Arkham Asylum first, I'll find Batman by myself."

As the supercar drove along the road, Connors spoke to Harley Quinn, who was sitting in the passenger seat admiring her nails.

"Me? Oh~" Harley Quinn had been trying to stir up trouble herself, but she didn't have any objections to Connors's arrangements.

After all, in the plan agreed upon last night, she was responsible for the part of the plan to lock Batman up in Arkham Asylum, while Connors was only responsible for communicating with Batman.

Harley Quinn likely believed that Connors seduced Batman, brought him to the vicinity of Arkham Asylum, and then she was the one who locked him up.

So after Connors jumped out of the window of the speeding supercar, she nimbly moved from the passenger seat to the driver's seat, then turned the steering wheel, steering the car toward the arms dealers she knew:

"Let's go! Ivy, I'll take you to get some heavy weapons."

Connors leaps off the supercar, and Selena Gomez, who is riding alongside it, also leaps off the motorcycle and nimbly jumps into the supercar, without hindering Harley Quinn who is sitting in the driver's seat.

"Um—." Ivy didn't speak, but Selena, who had just entered, hesitated before asking, "Will locking Batman up require heavy firepower? What are you planning to do?"

"C4 explosives, rocket launchers, sniper rifles—use whatever you have!" Harley Quinn said happily, slamming on the gas pedal to take the supercar to another level.

Switching from the supercar to the motorcycle, Connors twisted the throttle and turned the car towards Wayne Manor.

They entered through the main gate as before, and then took the elevator hidden in the study into the Batcave. Bruce Wayne seemed to have been waiting for Connors' arrival all along.

He was standing in front of the computer wearing the Batsuit with its own propulsion system, and the computer screen showed the trajectory of Superman flying over Wayne Tower in the night sky the previous night.

"You said you had something to discuss in person, what exactly is it?" Bruce Wayne asked Connors, who had rushed over.

"Please come stay in Arkham for a day," Connors said bluntly.

"...You've been there, you should know it's an asylum." Bruce Wayne was wearing a helmet.

He spoke without revealing his expression.

"I know." Connors simply told Batman the conclusion first, and then began his pre-prepared plan of "getting Mr. Wayne to come with me in three sentences":

"You should know that the Joker and the Scarecrow, and the Riddler were imprisoned by you before being released by Killer Croc, right?"

"continue."

"These guys have been causing trouble all along to wear you down and then lock you up in Arkham. Now that they've escaped, the plan is still going on."

"Then I'll lock them back in. After all, that's where they belong." Batman showed no emotion whatsoever, as if he had expected this all along.

"But they will continue to commit crimes and drain your energy through massive destruction and casualties until you lock them up," Connors continued.

"...So, to stop them from causing further destruction, you want me to voluntarily lock myself up in Arkham Asylum?" Batman couldn't help but chuckle twice, his voice becoming even deeper.

"Sigh—I knew it wouldn't be that easy to convince you. Luckily, I was prepared." Connors said, taking out his phone, showing Batman the pictures he had taken the night before.

The photos show that the Joker has a map of Gotham Hospital, the Riddler's residence is stocked with a large number of gel bombs, and the Scarecrow is living in a laboratory, seemingly developing a new fear gas.

"Their plans all have only one purpose: to drain your energy and then send you to a mental hospital," Connors said. "Instead of that, you might as well just go in."

The butler, Alfred, stepped out of the elevator with a cup of hot coffee and was about to hand it to Connors when he heard about the outrageous plan, so he silently put the coffee away.

Batman's lips twitched, but seeing the villains in the photo clearly plotting something serious, he remained silent for a moment, then nodded.

"Okay, I'll go then, but I need to bring some things with me."

Outside Arkham Asylum, Harley Quinn dusted off her hands and sighed with satisfaction.

"Catwoman" Selena cautiously reached out and touched a mortar placed in front of her, then looked at the large pile of explosives and grenade launchers nearby.

Harley Quinn obtained all of these from arms dealers; more precisely, the three sisters stormed in and stole them.

"Isn't this making a mountain out of a molehill? We're just locking them up. Connors didn't say he was going to kill them—" Selena was used to relying on her own skills, and she felt helpless in the face of so much heavy firepower.

"Look—I even think these weapons aren't enough," Harley Quinn said, standing on a platform built of plants by Poison Ivy and pointing in a direction.

Before "Catwoman" Selena could even ask what she meant, she felt the ground tremble, followed by increasingly violent tremors coming from afar.

A Batmobile bearing the Batman logo, as massive as a mobile fortress, slowly approached from a distance. Even though it was propelled by tracks, its enormous size and weight were enough to make the ground tremble.

"Didn't we agree to bring Batman? Why did you bring a tank instead?" Selena thought to herself, looking at the huge Battank with a somewhat bewildered expression.

But she soon realized something was wrong.

The first thing she saw in the bat symbol was Batman himself, wearing enormous armor!
