Chapter 218 Gwen's Self-Doubt

Chapter 218 Gwen's Self-Doubt

DC has its watchers, Marvel has its observers.

The two are not the same thing. At least the monitor can interfere in the affairs of the universe, while the observer's lifelong commitment is to never interfere in anything in the universe.

The current reality is that Connors, as a DC "monitor," has been put on the wanted list by Reed, who is an "observer" in this universe.

Leaving aside the Karamireid from "Fantastic Four," that one might not even be a proper "Reid."

Connors gradually sorted out his thoughts. He didn't intend to continue entangled with "Invisible Woman" Susan, but instead planned to find "Observer" Reed immediately.

In front of "Invisible Woman" Susan, Connors' appearance changed rapidly, from wearing a typical Gotham trench coat to a much larger "Lizardman" with a thick tail trailing behind him.

"Dr. Lizard" can't fly, but Connors can.

With its powerful hind legs slamming into the ground, Connors' body flew straight upwards.

Sewer systems are usually located tens to hundreds of meters underground, but Connors completely ignored the thick ground and dug a straight tunnel leading directly to the surface before flying into space.

The instant he reached the surface, Connors used two abilities in quick succession.

One is "reality distortion," and the other is "telepathy."

The "reality distortion" refers to the identities of Connors Paterson and Curtis Connors.

"Telepathy" is about erasing one's own sense of existence.

"etc!""

The Invisible Woman called out urgently. She realized that Connors seemed to know something about her fiancé, and she wanted to take the opportunity to ask him more questions.

But as Connors emerged from the ground, "telepathy" blocked all external perception of him, leaving the Invisible Woman's next words stuck in her throat:

What was I about to do?

From the Invisible Woman's perspective, she was alone throughout the entire investigation of energy fluctuations in the sewers.

This cave, which leads directly to the surface, appeared out of nowhere, without any trace of human intervention.

The universe is vast, at least for Connors now. Even with the Mother Box's "Boom Channel," this ability only allows travel within the multiverse, not beyond it.

"Teleportation" requires a location that has been seen, thought about, or heard, but Connors didn't even know where "Observer" Reed was.

The "Omega effect" can also be used to travel through the universe, but this ability cannot lock onto an unknown "observer" named Reed.

After traveling through space for about an hour, Connors remained suspended in space, still in the form of "Dr. Lizard".

Looking around, there was no trace of the "observer" at all.

"It seems that to find this 'Observer,' we need to start with the computer code that the 'Invisible Woman' mentioned—"

Connors pondered to himself. An hour was a short time, but enough for him to use "Explosive Channel" and "..." consecutively.

The "Omega effect" spans the entire Milky Way galaxy.

Unable to find any trace of the "observer" within this range of searches, Connors decided not to continue blindly wandering in space.

With the instantaneous use of "Mind Transfer," Connors vanished from his spot, and a rusty-colored planet silently appeared in the distance.

Shortly after he disappeared, a massive, star-like phantom head appeared here; it was none other than Reed the Observer.

"Dr. Lizard?"

"The person who wiped out the entire Reed Conference was actually a mutated giant lizard?"

"Not joining the 'Reed Council' seems to be the best thing I've ever done."

Unbeknownst to Reed the "Observer," a planet that didn't belong there and looked similar to "Mars" was drifting alone in space not far from him.

The landform on Mars known as "Sun Lake" or "Eye of Mars" faces Reed the "Observer," as if looking at him with a real eye.

"Polymer chain mimicry", "telepathy", "Lock picking master", "magnification".

Using all four abilities simultaneously, Connors's feigned departure transformed into "Mars," observing the "Observer's" appearance.

Moments later, "Observer" Reed vanished without a trace, and the Mars that "Watcher" Connors had transformed into also disappeared.

This time, Connors has truly returned to Earth, back to the sewers where Gwen vs. "Doctor Octopus" took place.

According to his plan, Gwen should have defeated "Doctor Octopus". However, Doctor Octopus realized that he could not fight Spider Gwen alone, so he formed the Evil Six.

But when he returned to the sewers, he found that this was not the case.

Gwen's hood was torn to shreds, her mask was half broken, there were dried bloodstains at the corners of her mouth, and she had multiple swellings and fractures on her body. She was lying in the sludge of the sewer.

Meanwhile, "Dr. Octopus" was still busy in his laboratory, looking not only unharmed but also in a rather cheerful mood, whistling as he conducted his experiments.

Gwen vs. Octopus Doctor: Gwen suffers a crushing defeat.

Reality Distortion was still in effect, and Connors unlocked the "telepathy" that had been placed on him.

Connors, whose identity had been switched with "Dr. Lizard," returned to human form and used "healing magic" while holding Gwen.

Gwen's injuries were instantly replicated on Connors, and then both of their injured bodies recovered at an extremely fast pace.

"I failed—"

Gwen looked somewhat disheartened.

"Doctor Octopus is too powerful, far beyond what Spider-Gwen can handle."

"Maybe the world doesn't need Spider-Man at all. The more powerful superheroes will solve everything. I just need to be a little girl working at a pizza shop."

"My ability came from an accident. In other words, anyone can be 'Spider-Man,' it doesn't have to be me."

Even though her injuries had fully healed, Gwen's eyes had lost their light. She walked with her head down towards the far end of the sewer, and "Doctor Octopus" did not stop them even though he noticed Connors's presence.

Connors' original plan was to kill "Doctor Octopus," as he had no difficulty dealing with such a character.

But after hearing Gwen's self-doubting words, he changed his mind.

He wants to help Spider-Gwen regain her confidence and become the real Spider-Man, and he wants to use the Spider-Gwen vs. the Sinister Six incident to bring out Reed the Watcher.

After all, following the "reality distortion," his current identity is "Dr. Lizard," while the real Dr. Lizard has become the "Watcher," who traveled from Earth Zero.
