Chapter 199 Darkseid Project
"None of my business."
Harley Quinn of the Withering Ashes was in high spirits, but Connors decisively rejected Darkseid's request.
Darkseid was a tyrant, and his subordinates never dared to defy him, let alone say things like "It's none of my business."
He looked at Connors, whose body had changed to be the same height as his own, and his eyes lit up with a scarlet light. The "Omega Ray" made several right-angle turns in the air and hit the ground next to him.
A deep pit suddenly appeared on the ground, its walls smooth and flat, with wisps of blue smoke rising from it.
Darkseid withdrew the "Omega Ray" and looked at Connors:
"Kalibak told me about a powerful guy I've never seen before on Earth recently. You must be talking about you, right?"
"I know you haven't joined the Justice League. If you can help me bring my son Orion back, I will make you the most powerful warrior on Apokolips."
While Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl were fighting to the death with Darkseid outside, Darkseid was chatting leisurely inside.
Connors' original intention was to see what Darkseid's schemes were on Apokolips, but if he could help Darkseid bring back his son, he could join them and learn about Darkseid's plans in the same way.
Before he could agree, a loud bang came from outside.
The spaceship's protective shield was torn open, and "Superman" rammed into it with his fist raised. The sound wasn't from the spaceship being pierced, but from him colliding with the artificial intelligence "Freil Dax".
The robot's material is unknown; Superman punched it and it was completely unharmed.
Not only Superman's fists, but even if a dense barrage of artillery fire were to hit him on the surface of Apokolips, Dax would not show any damage after the smoke cleared.
The same was true for "Superman." The two tough guys fought for several minutes under the dark red sky, but neither of them caused any damage to the other.
"You know what? I've always wanted to kill Superman and take his place as the leader of the Justice League. If you can help me kill Superman, I'll grant your request."
Connors, in a dramatic display, stared at the red and blue figure in the sky with eyes full of jealousy.
"How can I believe this isn't just your side of the story? Bring my son here first." Darkseid watched Connors put on an act, his mouth remaining tight-lipped.
The two stood there awkwardly, Harley Quinn, "The Withering Ashes," knew Connors was fooling Darkseid, and her eyes darted around, contemplating a wicked idea:
"How about this: Little Parr goes to Orion, and Darkseid takes the opportunity to deal with 'Superman.' That way, when we come back, we can directly take over Superman's position?"
"No." Darkseid rejected Harley's suggestion. "I have a better plan."
Darkseid returned to the fortress, where the machinery continued to operate, constantly supplying energy to the fortress through pipes over a meter in diameter.
His target wasn't "Superman," but rather the enormous spaceship in the sky. The extremely thin beam of light reappeared, shooting straight from the muzzle of the cannon towards the spaceship, instantly denting a large chunk of its armor.
Dax was locked in combat with "Superman" when he saw the spaceship was damaged, and he immediately lost all interest in lingering.
"I'll let you off this time, Kryptonian."
After he finished speaking, a beam of light descended vertically from below the spaceship, bringing Dax, who was enveloped in it, back to the spaceship.
Without pausing, the spaceship with its protective shield torn apart vanished through the dark red clouds.
Superman instinctively tried to give chase, but the spaceship was extremely fast. He was only a step behind the spaceship as it flew out of the clouds, and the spaceship had already disappeared from his sight.
Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter also gave chase, but they were slower than Superman and were destined to fail.
The three returned to the surface of Apokolips. Darkseid waved for Connors to follow, then flew towards "Superman."
Three positions.
"You bunch of idiots let Brainiac get away!" Darkseid looked furious. "What are you waiting for? Go and kill him!"
"Of course, but please watch your words," Superman said to Darkseid, then saw Connors and Harley following behind.
The moment "Mars Manhunter" saw Connors, he sensed something was wrong and instinctively used "telepathy".
Unfortunately, Connors also possesses the ability of "telepathy," so "Mars Manhunter" cannot read the information he wants.
Harley in "The Withering Ashes" was easy to read, but in "Mars Manhunter," besides knowing that Harley was wondering if Apokolips had movies and chips, there was nothing else to read.
"What brings you here?" "Eagle Girl" asked bluntly.
"I came to watch the fun," Connors answered honestly.
“Outsider, it’s too dangerous here. You shouldn’t have brought Harley with you.” Superman wasn’t worried about Connors’ safety, but in his mind, Harley was just an ordinary person who couldn’t stay on Apokolips for long.
"What is your self?" "Mars Manhunter" abandoned telepathy and asked.
"Didn't 'Superman' say that coming to Apokolips was a near-certain death for you guys? I'm here to help collect the corpses," Connors said, making up a story.
"With you here, I won't—" "Superman" was interrupted by "Mars Manhunter" before he could finish speaking.
"I just want to clarify one question: what is your stance?" Martian Hunter asked.
Connors looked at Darkseid and said with a smile:
"To replace 'Superman' and become the leader of the 'Justice League'."
Superman's eyes lit up. He had always wanted to recruit Connors, but Connors had always disagreed. He didn't want to let such a good opportunity slip by.
"If you really want to join the Justice League, I can give up my spot to—"
But this time, before Superman could finish speaking, Darkseid interrupted him:
"You guys should be chasing Brainiac, not chatting about your Justice League!"
Darkseid felt a headache coming on.
Connors openly told Superman his purpose, and the two almost hit it off and joined the Justice League.
Darkseid wanted to recruit Connors, regardless of his actual strength, as he could at least be used as cannon fodder.
If a conflict arises with the Justice League, Connors could conveniently transform from cannon fodder into a hostage.
If these two were allowed to continue talking, and Connors joined the Justice League to chase Brainiac, his plans would go awry.
While his boss was speaking, Darkseid's henchman, Calibak, summoned a small spaceship and had it land next to "Superman":
"The three of you, it's time to set off."
