Chapter 126 The Wisdom of Locking the Door
"The situation is getting out of control—Zatanna, seal off this area and don't let anyone leave!"
Batman has given the order, clearly indicating that he intends to fight Wonder Woman to the bitter end.
"Zatanna?"
However, Zatanna ignored him and walked to Wonder Woman's side before speaking:
"Look, Batman, Constantine wants us to stay away from the Pandora's Box, and if you ask me what I've learned in all my life..."
That means you have to take Constantine's words the wrong way.
Her hands radiated golden light, and she chanted a spell aloud:
"Send him/her!"
"Lantern, grab her!" Steve ordered Lantern.
Batman rushed towards Zatanna, shouting to Constantine:
"Damn it! Stop her, Constantine!"
Constantine remained motionless, his shoulder draped over Connors's arm. He felt immense pressure on his shoulder and had no time to think about anything else.
Once Zatanna and Wonder Woman had completely disappeared from the spot, Constantine felt a lightness on his shoulder. When he turned around, he found that Connors had vanished without a trace.
"This guy is even more troublesome than me. I need to come up with some ways to deal with him," Constantine muttered to himself, then looked at Shazam, who was still eating sunflower seeds beside him.
"Big Red, are you going to stay here and watch them run around like headless flies, or are you going to do something practical and salvage everything? I know it all started with you in Kandak."
Shazam, somewhat reluctant to part with the sunflower seeds in his hand, cracked them faster as he followed Constantine toward the house of mystery:
"I don't care about salvaging anything, and I don't care who you are. I just want to leave this place—aren't you going to tear down this shabby little house?"
"No, that's not true. Connors just tampered with it. Come in without worry. Besides, even if the building really did collapse, it shouldn't have messed up your hairstyle."
Constantine gradually lowered Shazam's psychological defenses, and the two of them entered the Mystery House almost as soon as Zatanna disappeared from the spot.
So after Batman's plea for help from Constantine went unanswered, he turned to look and then angrily questioned:
"Where did Constantine go?!"
The Flash added:
"And what about Shazam?"
Catwoman sighed:
"Connors is also missing."
"Damn it—!" Steve, the leader of the Justice League of America, started to curse, but hesitated, not daring to say Connors' name. He paused for a moment before continuing, "Things are getting worse!"
Steve was worried that if he scolded Connors today, his cactus would come back to life the next day, and flowers would inexplicably bloom on his body.
"The real chaos hasn't even begun yet, Steve," the Phantom Stranger said again, his words still cryptic, after Wonder Woman and her group had disappeared.
"If we can't stop them, you'll see something far more terrifying than you can imagine."
"Then we should go after Wonder Woman," Batman said.
"No, we must seek the answers from him," said the Phantom Stranger.
Batman: "To whom?"
Phantom Stranger: "Dr. Light".
Zhenbo: "Dr. Guang is dead."
Phantom Stranger: "Yes, he's dead."
Batman: ".—"
He grabbed the Phantom Stranger by the collar and lifted him into the air:
"Explain yourself clearly. I learned a saying from Connors: 'Don't be a riddle-maker!'"
The Phantom Stranger reluctantly raised his hands in surrender, and only after Batman put him down did he straighten his collar and say:
"Let's go to heaven to find him."
Catwoman looked at the Phantom Stranger with curiosity:
"Heaven? That's a new place. Shall we go to Heaven to find Dr. Light?"
As she was speaking, she felt someone poke her waist, and then a small scarecrow was stuffed into her palm without attracting anyone's attention.
"Put an eye in heaven for me, afterwards."
After Connors finished speaking, he quickly left them in the form of "Kusama Man" invisibility.
"Magnification" and "Spider-Sense" allowed him to quickly sense the location of Wonder Woman and the others, and with the help of the black smoke cape, he flew there.
Catwoman remained calm and held "Kusama Man" in her palm.
The "House of the Dead" bar in New York is located not far from the Mystery House.
"Mop Mop, this store should have closed half an hour ago, and I have a terrible headache—anyway, you have to go home."
The bar owner spoke to a man with pink hair and a fence-like tattoo on his arm.
The pink-haired man, named Mop Mop, with flushed cheeks and nose, clearly drunk, said, "I want to sleep here for a while."
"Go sleep wherever you want, just don't sleep in my bar," the bar owner said, reaching out to lift the guy up.
But the bar, which had already closed, was pushed open again. It was already dark outside, and two figures walked in from the darkness:
"Hey, Lloyd, lock the door, I need to use this place."
Constantine, wearing a trench coat and smoking a cigarette, was followed by Shazam, who was wearing a white cloak.
"It's my turn to take the stage. I need to get down to business. I was planning to teach the Cold Flame Church a lesson when the time was right, but thanks to those guys in uniforms, I haven't had a single moment to prepare."
Constantine spoke as he and Shazam walked to the bar counter:
"Billy, you're a key figure. I have a prediction that this Superman incident is related to your Shazam power. Whether you transformed using a magic necklace or something else, I know you have another form."
"I want you to calm it down for a while, which means deactivating the transformation."
Shazam was still munching on the sunflower seeds Connors had given him. Even though he was speeding up, he didn't have many seeds left, but it seemed like he could never finish them.
"Why should I trust you? I'm just following you away from that mess of a bunch of bastards."
Shazam's right hand was already using the "m" from "Shazam," which means "Mercury's speed," and at this moment, his hand was already leaving afterimages in the air.
The sunflower seeds Connors gave him were so delicious that Shazam couldn't bear to throw them away, and since he had no pockets, he had no choice but to eat them quickly.
Constantine, somewhat annoyed, watched Shazam use his powers to eat sunflower seeds and asked:
How much do you understand about your own abilities?
Shazam: "Anyway, I have more than you. *smack smack smack*"
His mouth was also using "Mercury's speed," spitting out sunflower seed shells like snowflakes.
Constantine circled around, trying to stand where the sunflower seed shells couldn't hit him, and said:
"No, I am the world's greatest magic expert. I know everything, and I can tell you're not stupid."
He paused for a moment, watching Shazam spew sunflower seed shells out of his mouth at a rate of dozens of times per second.
"To put it another way, when I entered the House of Mystery, I sensed a huge magical field. It was an offensive spell, perhaps a trap set by Black Adam."
Constantine tossed away the cigarette butt and lit another one:
"That spell is tracking you. I brought you here to buy you two minutes. If you continue using magic, it might find you and kill you."
"Once you return to your original state, it won't be able to find you, then we'll drive it away, and you'll be fine—everyone's happy."
Shazam threw away the sunflower seeds in his hand; he was almost stuffed from eating them.
Moreover, he had to listen carefully to what Constantine said, as it seemed to be of great help to him.
"Then, I told the Justice League how selflessly you helped them solve their problem, and how damn big a favor they owed you."
"Sometimes trusting your friends can lead to a win-win situation, can't it? The other way around is not necessarily true."
Shazam increasingly felt that Constantine was right. He didn't notice the sunflower seeds he'd tossed away disappearing quickly, but instead shouted with deep emotion:
"Shazam!"
